the main heroine of this manga is very lovable. the arwork is not my favourite, but the character expression is somewhat new to me. wonder when it's gonna be available in my language. all in all, i recommend this manga.

I originally dropped this series in its first few chapters due to how unlikeable Ishida and his friends were as kids. later picked up the series again and have been thoroughly impressed with series.
The plot of this manga is a breadth of fresh air in the current manga climate.

This a story of redemption without all the guns and explosions. Our protagonist attempts to right his wrongs and make up for all the hurt and torment he caused towards the female lea and in the process, fall in love with her.

Very moving and heart warming manga, guaranteed to leave a smile on your face.

This manga breaks away from all the typical romance mangas and frankly, I haven't seen anything like this. The story is compelling, the art is fitting and the characters are relatable and charming. I would recommend reading the first chapter (which is a one-shot I think with like 90 pages) and then decide for yourself if you want more. I think all manga lovers should give this a try.

Amazing..

Yes...its amazing. currently, I'm on a manga binge and still ongoing... 86 titles so far. Not including previous titles of course but only two series have riled me so far. This and Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari.

This manga... although the artwork is not up to my standards of "pretty", it shines when it counts. During the emotions and scenes that are important. Well, it sounds stupid because every scene could be important but...yep. No follow up on that. This is a good series. It depicts a very realistic (unfortunately that it is) scene of how an outsider or stranger is treated and ostracized.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
As much as it pisses me off... I can't find fault with most of the characters up to a certain point.
-Except Miki. God I hate her and as of chapter 53, she still hasn't been redeemed. Rather, I don't want her to be.
-The teacher...its painful but I can see it. If you teach, year after year, students may become a blur and different children can be a burden. As shown in the first few chapters, the extra attention, time, money, and patience that is allocated...it adds up. Maybe it can be seen that there is a problem with public education this way. Of course, there are teachers that do care and are wonderful.
-Her parents... I never hated the mother. I actually liked her and after the back story, even more so. As stated earlier about burdens...its all true. And its tough for a single mother especially with that messed up ex-husband of hers. Well...as cruel as it seems...it was also partially a financial decision and as much as I wish that love can triumph over it all, reality requires money. But her mother tries her best and wants her daughters to be strong.
-Her sister might seem unruly at first but she wants whats the best for her sis. Best little sis.
-Ishida really was...a snotty brat. But when he became an outsider through the rest of elementary and through middle school I simply thought that...it wasn't karma. It was injustice. The one at fault was the class and class mentality. Its really bs. Was it right for him to suffer like she did? Eh. If you think about it reverse, if he was originally bullied then she became bullied, I doubt many would say its justified. I do believe he deserves punishment but...ugh. Good on him for trying to make things right. No matter how hard it is and how many times he trips, stand up!
-Nao likes him. It will seem stupid. So stupid. But its true. People in love, whether for their parent's affection or a crush, will do things that may seem silly to others but for them... it is important. I want to like her...but its hard because she does so many... things out of anger. Even after chapter 44-45 I don't want to hate her, rather, I can't. I know she loves Ishida but I think she actually does care for Shoko even if she really hates her.
-Shoko...chapter 52...wow. I really applaud the scanlation team for it. At first, I thought it was a misprint but then...wow. But Shoko... well...its impossible to be in her shoes unless you have one of the sense impaired. The author does amazing work in depicting Shoko putting up a being half a step behind as Nao said... its hard to not despair when you can never see the whole picture. Even people that can fully function mess up and cause misunderstands upon misunderstandings such that some bonds will never be repaired. Shoko just wanted to get along with everyone but...things don't work out. Especially as children are stupid. Not much else to say... its really tough on her and i really hope this manga ends happy...
- No comment on the other characters yet.

This manga will make me think for a while if I was ever like Ishida or the others... its easier to remember if you were in Shoko's position though.

I gave it a try as the rating is quite high. Well, it is better than I expected. It's emotional, with strong character development, realistic situation and drama. I love this piece of art, it's amazing and probably the best that I have ever read in 2014. Nothing's ever come close.

it is rare to see a manga that treat this kind of thing in a serious way, without getting too sentimental.
the manga is mature, it portrays the life of a group of teenagers that have various problems, mostly related to bullying.
the bullying is realistic, the author doesn't exaggerate just to make the reader cry. its difference from other manga that have this topic, koe no katachi has a feeling that is mature and realistic. every character has his own personality. the author, without spending pages and pages, gives to every of her characters a specific and no-stereotyped personality.

something about the love story: there is one. to many people, me included, this is not something welcomed, but here the protagonists are mature, with their flaws. there is not a feminine crybaby girl and the guy is not a strong, bishie, perfect knight. this nearly perfect characterization make the love story real, also the author didn't rush the love story (is still not completed).

following this manga since the one shot came out and looking forward to it smile

I have a hard time desiring to read this, because, unfortunately, this is a real life situation that happens often. In a way, this series also tries to give hope because Shouya tries to make amends, to give peace to himself, his family, and potentially the people around him. My biggest problem with trying to read this series is that the world turns against Shouya. I really hate (enduring) stories where the protagonist has to feel despair. And he's only a kid!! Sure, he "deserves" it, but this is not how it should be... Unforunately, real life is just like that. sad I guess I live in an ideal world! Nonetheless, LOVE this series.

Heartbreaking and relatable

Starting with the oneshot, Koe no Katachi is an emotional story that, unfortunately, most people can relate to in some way, shape or form. After reading just the first few chapters, I was forced to stop and think about how my actions, intentionally or not, could potentially effect others.

After bullying deaf middle school student Nishimiya, the uncaring, juvenile bad boy Shouya himself becomes the target of bullying. The story then advances to the present day where Shouya, now in high school, is reunited by chance with Nishimiya. The most emotional point in the story for me was
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
when Shouya, using sign language, asks Nishimiya to be his friend, ironically the same question Nishimiya continuously asked and was ridiculed for years ago.

From here, Shouya becomes reconnected with a number of other former classmates, each of which have developed in their own ways, for better or worse. Later chapters focus on multiple character relationships, which honestly makes the series even more relatable, as actual high school drama never involves just two people.
The art has a sketchy, simplistic feel to it that works well in conveying the story without distraction. The manga is creative in some aspects, such as the large X’s over the faces of unfriended students.

I am conflicted as to how I want the story to end. On the one hand, I feel incredibly sorry for Shouya and hope that he can make peace with himself and everybody else. On the other hand, I feel that a future romantic relationship between Shouya and Nishimiya would be cliche yet unrealistic, and lessen the gravity of his horrific actions in the earlier chapters.

This manga is totally worth reading. It's unique. I've never read something with this plot before. Although it's different, it's still fully acceptable. And not only acceptable, it's satisfying.
If we're talking emotionally, there're quite a lot of scenes that left me speechless and nearly cried.
Well, totally recommended. Anyway, I'm still waiting for further chapters!!
