this manga is completely average. The mute-disability concept pulled me in, but after you get past the disability and tragic past there's nothing of value. The art for the seme is very ugly and inconsistent, but the art for the uke is actually pretty nice.
I'd skip this one if you're looking for something worthwhile to read

It was okay... not a unique or special story but it was also cute and entertaining enough to read.
My main problem would be the art... not cause I dislike sensei's style in general but because the characters looked different from panel to panel - the art looked very inconsistent.
I found it a bit underwhelming regarding the drama/angst considering the topic and all, the mangaka brought in several difficult, real thematics but didn't fully work with any of them... and the seme's character was just shallow... could have been much better, but it's ok/not terrible the way it is too.

Cute and Frustrating - what the mangaka aimed for

This manga kind of reminded me of Cut. Not quite as good, but similar ideas in that both the main characters had difficult situations and while they're placed among the 'typical' school life settings, they stand out from the other students because of what they're going through.
The artwork isn't the best but at least decent and same with the plot. It would have been nice if the characters could have been more fleshed out but it seemed like this was the best the mangaka could do at the time.
Probably the best thing the story was able to portray was the frustration of youths being unable to be independent. This theme shows up right from the beginning where the main character notes the amount of time until he'll be old enough to make his own decisions concerning his life, and it flows right through to the end of the story.
Overall, a cute love story among frustrating situations. I'd recommend it for an easy read if the summary, genres and categories interest you.

I found this manga to be cute :3
The character of Kana was adorable For some reason, I kind of didn't like the ending, but that's just personal taste.
Basically the plot is adorable...the seme is so protective and it's just really good hurt/comfort.
The reason I gave it an 8 was because the art was pretty bad...some of the worst I've seen. The character's faces were generally good looking, but the proportions were pretty wack and sometimes faces were just like scribbles.
If I were to rate this on story alone, I would give it a 10

Such a touching story <3
It's rare for a mangaka to pull off mute characters, but this was done so well. Even without words Kaname's thoughts and feelings were evident in his facial expressions, and I loved how Kyousuke understood him over the phone with just a whistle. Definitely a perfect match!
I hardly ever cry when reading manga, but there was one scene where I couldn't help but shed a few tears. That being said, this doesn't leave you with a broken heart or an empty feeling, instead it has a sweet satisfying ending. A lovely read ^__^

it's a bit too black-and-white for me; there's the instant love between kyousuke and kaname, where i prefer to see some time pass so people actually get to know each other. also everyone in kaname's family is an abusive jerk, and i am in general more interested in conflicts between good-but-flawed people than good versus evil; in this case there was nothing redeeming about them. but kyousuke is a kind and caring seme, which is definitely a bonus, and kaname actually does need protecting, so that's not trumped up just so that the seme can throw his weight around. and the story has some depth. i'm not enamored with the art overall, but now and then umetarou hits it just perfectly. i'd read this again.
I want to like this more but...

because of the subject matter and the characters, I'd like to get it higher but I'd have to knock it down to an 8/10 because of how rushed it was...yea, I get that it's love at first type stuff so the feelings appear faster but...yeah. a bit too fast. i could tell it was supposed to be deep, making a connection with the play on words but the way this manga was written, made it difficult for me to feel really connected with it.
it's a decent read but could have been better.

I'm so happy I came across this. It somehow resembled Kawai Touko's works. Deep, with the right touch of angst and such sincerity from the characters. The story was pure and simple. There weren't any over the top scenes. The abuse was kept peacefully explained so there was no need to drag the story on. The author made it clear who the antagonists were and their objective was heading in the same direction. So there wasn't any of those situations were the bad guy turned out to be a good guy bla bla. It was a clean cut. It's rare to come across a manga that's beautifully written AND drawn at the same time. Kyousuke and Kaname were so perfect for each other. Their scenes never failed to make me blush. And I absolutely love the way she ended it

Spoiler (highlight to view)
since their dream was to be with each other forever and live somewhere near the ocean, you would expect the ending to be a scene of them being lovey dovey at the beach. But instead, we got a "typical normal day" of the lovers. If there was a sequel..the last few pages would've been the "sneak peek".
Truly amazing. It captivates you till the very end. And not to mention, the art's drawn in such a serene way. Just like the plot. So well balanced. *hands down*... Last updated on January 7th, 2011, 9:48pm

A stunningly lovely piece is full of drama, angst, and insight into the mind's quiet way to dramatically and incredibly save itself through trauma. The art was all air and wispiness and the plotting was thump-thump-thump right for each emotion of each scene. The way that the main boy grew to understand himself and his world with greater empathy, kindness and depth was as profound as the young mute's ability to have inner strength.
