A manga or comic about or includes a strong and independant female. Main character or one of the main characters prefered.

Not only strong physically but also mentally.
I don't like manga or comics in which the girls start off strong but towards the end, they get so attached to one male that they can't do anything but only think about him and end up being totally useless and weak and teary.

Being invincible and stronger than every person on the face of the friggin earth is a no no, too though. I think having some weak moments is good.

I have a thing for females having to conceal their gender for a purpose and not for fun/enjoyment. It doesn't mean they have to hate it or anything. They can enjoy hiding their gender, too, but it needs to have a bigger purpose than just enjoyment.

Some girls I absolutely love include
Mafuyu Kurosaki from Oresama Teacher
Maya Lopez of Marvel
Nachi from Bara to Dangan

Beauty Pop Kiri is no push-over
Angel Diary
Bring it on!
Honey Bitter, maybe? This one might be borderline, depending on how you see the situation, some people that read the manga find the girl weak, some others strong, that's up to the reader I guess.

http://mangafox.me/manga/obaka_chan_koigatariki/

Akuma to Love Song (Maria Kawai)
http://mangafox.me/manga/akuma_to_love_song/

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu (Haruhi Suzumiya)

Not rly supposed to post links to the reading sites, and general forum opinion is extremely low concerning mangafox.

I second 7 Seeds
Note: There's two main heroine in 7 Seeds, Natsu & Hana
At first, the story follow team summer B, with Natsu as the main character, with weak, cowardly nature, but later, when the story follow team spring, the main character is Hana. She's strong, brave, pretty mush what are you looking for.

Maybe you could try :
Girls of the Wild's
All the female chara there is strong and independant, and even tough Queen is soft sometime, she would never depend (mentally or physically) on the male lead. Ever.
Bakemonogatari (Novel)
