Quote from ladybrasa
If there is an anime out on the same title I prefer to watch that instead of the manga. This is for assorted reasons, one of which is simply to be one way to select which manga I read, since there are so many to choose from.
However, I watched Trigun the anime and liked it alot. Then I realized that the manga it was based on totally took the story and characters in a much different direction. So I decided to check out the manga and see the differences. I haven't gotten very far though - just Trigun vol 1 & 2, but none of the Maximum - yet.

Same for me... Actually my friend introduced me to anime and manga. He gave me 3 animes to watch: Trigun, Vandread, and Love Hina. Then I wanted to read what happened in the manga. Eventually I decided I liked manga better, because most anime are based on manga, and not a lot the other way around. Manga is also a smaller download lol.

This is off-topic, but when you watched the anime, did you think that Knives grafted Vash's left arm onto Legato? My friend says I'm crazy. mad

No most likely it stops me from reading the manga or watching the anime, depending which one i saw or read first. Off course if the anime stops before the manga then i will read it through to get the final ending so to speak..

Generally it doesn't spawn that reaction. The usual thing is to just use one of the mediums since story is what matters. Truly great series is the exception to this though, one wants those repeated again and a new medium means more of a new experience than the same one.

Full Moon wo Sagashite is an example of a series where I watched the anime and then directly went over to read the manga. It is also one of the few series where the manga was far worse than the anime.

it may sound funny but i first watched the anime naruto and then decided to read the manga, altho the naruto manga is the one of the most popular mangas...i am currently reading the volume 3... that is too early yet...<_< since i have watched all the anime episodes, it is a bit boring now... well, it is not boring , but i already know what happends.. however, such is my interest about naruto that i never find it really boring to watch/read it.. i now agree that generally the manga is the original that should be read first and then watch the anime cause u have been inspired by the manga... i also used to watch one piece when it was on tv here in Greece but then abruptly is was cut... now i am reading the second volume of the one piece manga cause i liked the anime.. the manga is pretty interesting too, as i dont remember a lot from the anime and by reading the manga it reminds me of the anime biggrin

Actually that is how i started reading manga.

My first manga was Ichigo 100% and i felt the manga ending was just stupid (it left off somewhere around chapter 50 out of 169 chapters).

After that i pretty much sticked with the manga since it is more avaliable than the anime.

Started going ahead of the anime on shows like One piece, Naruto, and Bleach...

And now, i primarily read manga.

Hmmmm, I haven't watched Trigun for a while but I think I remember wondering the same thing. It wasn't explained very well.

Only 2 anime that made me interested in their manga, Full Metal Alchemist and Claymore.
I was quite surprised to find that FMA manga and anime has different storyline, though overall is in the same environment, you guys should check it out ;)
For other titles I usually start from the manga and it becomes a bit boring because I already know the story. But since most of the anime is shorter and released faster than the manga, it really help me in knowing the ending eyes and it really fun to compare the ending between the anime and manga biggrin

Yep. Ichigo 100%. Liked the anime, wanted to know more about it, and heard it was better. And yep it was better, kinda got hooked on then on. Happens also with Gantz too. For some reason if the anime ends shorts or isn't clear as what's going on I like to read up on it in the manga. Reading the manga from the get go doesn't seem to have the same effect.

Definitely; I'm originally an anime fan. Some have definitely inspired me to read the manga, though. Mostly because I get into the story and I know the manga is farther along in the story. So once I reach the limit of the anime I switched to manga.

Yup. Because of anime kare kano and fruits basket, I wanted to read the manga. The anime just left me hanging so I've got to know the whole story.

Gravitation, Fruits Basket, Fullmetal Alchemist, Ouran High School Host Club, Loveless, Princess Princess, xxxHOLiC, Death Note, Nodame Cantabile, Honey and Clover, Lovely Complex, Azumanga Daioh, X, Tokyo Babylon, etc...Yeah, happens to me all the time eyes but I think vice-versa happens more often for me. Ayashi no Ceres, Buso Renkin, Chobits, CLAMP School Detectives, Fushigi Yuugi, Kyou Kara Maou, Nana, Saiyuki, Tactics, Tsubasa, Fake , etc...I usually go to publishers' websites and see if any of their new manga looks good. Or if I hear a manga's really good, then I might check it out, and if it's good enough, I might just watch the anime too, but then again I do this vice versa too bigrazz

Yes. If I like a series, I will look for it in both forms. But if I read the manga first or I saw the anime...it doesn't really matter.

It's not like when you read a book and then see the movie. When you read a book you get a picture of what the characters should look like and then when you see the movie, you may not think it's correct. If you see the movie first, then when you read the book, the characters you visualize will be the ones seen in the movie.

Since in anime and manga, the characters are the same, it isn't such a big problem for me to switch between the two medias. The only thing that messes me up some times is the voice acting. I sometimes find the voices don't match my expectations.

That's actually how I got into manga. Although I've been into comic books all my life. Manga being the Japanese for comic. Before anything I am not a narutard... Well all started with the Naruto anime way back when it first started airing... Must've happened around ep 10-30. Discovered it was based on a manga and that the manga was way ahead of the anime. And only way to leach was via irc. Well actually that may be the story of how I discovered irc and my love of manga started... Might've actually picked up a manga or two before that... >_> And for the record been into anime way before that since I was a lil kid although didn't really kick in until I got DSL.

Also the manga usually gives you a lot more detail none of that filler garbage. KInda nice to read the manga after you've watched the anime if you really loved the anime that is. Might give you a slightly more in depth look at the anime. Sidenote: once i've read the manga I usually have no interest in going back and watching the anime (well drive/motivation/endurance). Takes less time to read the manga versus the anime.
