I'm looking for artists or mangas that have a distinct art style.
Some examples would be Ono Natsume mangas, Honey and Clover/March comes in like a Lion, &, Solanin/Oyasumi Punpun etc. Works by the author of Onani Master Kurosawa are also some examples, although this author makes his art unique through the sheer sketchiness/roughness of his manga.
Although the art should stray from the norm, I'd like for this uniqueness to be a positive factor of the manga, not a negative one. In other words, 'good strange art'.

Edit: I'd prefer it to be slice of life/drama/romance if possible

Shoulder-a-coffin, Kuro is fairly unique imo. Very dark and fairy tale-ish. Interesting characters and a very intriguing story too.

maybe Natsume Yuujinchou -she uses a brush instead of a pen to draw it, but i wouldnt consider it really good art at the beginning, it doesnt really get unique AND good until about half way through it. and this one is slice of life but it does have fantasy in it too

ill also second Ties of Compassion

Maybe.. Nocturne (Park Eun-Ah) ah, and it also matches the slice of life/drama/romance genres. I think it gives off one of those feelings..

Ran to Haiiro no Sekai Very cute manga. I NEVER EVER squeal or get fits of it's-just-too-cute but I did when reading this. (which is weird because it's totally not that kind of manga). This is the only one that really fits all your criteria.

Baraou no Souretsu

Zombie-Loan I guess this one's a matter of opinion, I really like the art style, but others don't so much.

Mononoke not kidding, also check out the anime
Shinya Shokudou
Adekan oh my lord yes
Choukakou
Capeta + anime, they kept the style in that too
Kirai
Bride of the Water God
Lessa the Crimson Knight
Say I Love You
V.B. Rose maybe?
Mushishi

I can't vouch for the art being cute, but mostly all of this is what you might call unique (certainly within the shoujo/josei genres)

YUMEKA Sumomo (My Girl (SAHARA Mizu), Itsuya-san, Tetsugaku Letra...) neat and clean, and I would say versatile.
YAMAKAWA Aiji (Tomodachi no Hanashi, Stand Up! (YAMAKAWA Aiji)...) I'm in love with her fluid linework. It's perfect for the kind of stories she writes.
MORI Kaoru (Otoyomegatari, Emma...) I could talk for ages about how amazing her detail work is.
HA Il-Kwon (Annarasumanara, My Heart is Beating...) He's very adept at using the medium, particularly in Annarasumanara.
NAKAMURA Asumiko (Le théâtre, Utsubora...)
GEORGE Asakura (Oboreru Knife, Teke Teke Rendezvous) at first I thought it was too much, but it grew on me. I really love the way she draws flowers.
Est Em (Udon no Onna, Carmen) the stark lines, minimalistic style.

Also:
ANDO Yuki
YAMAMORI Mika
NEMU Youko
TOBINA Touya

^ Calm down, Satan.
I agree with the others on Douman Seiman's works and Ran to haiiro no sekai.
I also love the art in Koe no Katachi and Princess Jellyfish.

As for josei:
Nemu Youko - Gozen 3-ji no Muhouchitai (always happy to recommend this 😳 )
Nishi Keiko - Otoko no Isshou , Ane no Kekkon
Hidaka Shoko - Mizutama Puzzle
Okazaki Mari - Tomodachi Ijou (she also wrote & which you mentioned earlier)
George Asakura - Piece of Cake
Ikuemi Ryou - Torch Song Ecology, Cousin
Est Em - Udon no Onna
Yamashita Tomoko - Her
Kodama Yuki - Hagoromo Mishin
Koguresou Monogatari

Somehow, this looks more like a list of my personal favorites of the genre... Nevermind, hope it will help. 😀

As for shoujo:
Tobina Touya - Jiujiu
Iketani Rikako - Six Half, Bitou Lollipop
Yamakawa Aiji - Yajirobee, Tomodachi no Hanashi
TAAMO - Taiyou no Ie
and maybe Orange (Takano Ichigo) and Yamamori Mika's Hirunaka no Ryuusei, but I wouldn't really call this "unique art"

If you were - by a chance - interested in some yaoi suggestions, please say so. 🙂
