Hey, I've been out of the manga scene for a year or so, and I don't even know where to start now haha. Whats a good series I should read to get back into it?

I don't really like anything in particular. I guess something thats between shojo/shounen/seinen categories. A good story with great character developement, and some romance is nice smile

So yeah I'm open to basically any suggestions of an awesome story to read biggrin

My lists: http://www.mangaupdates.com/mylist.html?id=147771&list=c omplete

Well, there's Bakuman but it gets fairly boring in some parts.

There's also Fairy Tail which has some character development and characters' past etc (looking at your Rurouni Kenshin review..).

Ouran High School Host Club is funny and easy to read.

I was gonna suggest Rurouni Kenshin and Fruits Basket, but you've read both of those (FB was my first manga too) . . .

Nana is really good, as far as shoujos go. There is a lot of interesting character development.

Flowers of Evil if you can stomach incest and like tragedy. It's reallllly good, but sooooo sad.

Eden No Hana I love this story. Also has incest themes, but really, really touching.

Kuroshitsuji is a personal favorite of mine. Just very interesting and unique. (try reading reviews; the summary is not helpful at all)

Chiro Star Project soooo interesting! It's a really good shoujo, but mind you, the way the protagonist is treated is more than a little twisted.

Savage Garden has BL in it, though the main character is a girl . . . but anyway, it's also a really good manga (by the person who wrote Flowers of Evil). It's tone is dark, but the relationships and romances the characters have are interesting.

Dengeki Daisy is a pretty good shoujo, if you are looking for the Koukou Debut type thing, but it's nothing special . . .

Full Moon Wo Sagashite is really good, especially if you enjoyed Fruits Basket. It's sad, but the main character has multiple layers (she's always smiling, but you find out later that she's hiding a great amount of sadness inside her)

Shinshi Doumei Cross by the same author as Full Moon also reminds me of FB for some reason . . . maybe it's because the characters and their relationships are all really complex . . . but it's also good.

OH! HOW COULD I FORGET? Vampire Knight is another one that you should at least try if you never have. It's one of those popular epic shoujos . . .

Anyway, it really depends on what you're in the mood for. I'd recommend all of these, but my personal favorites would be Kuroshitsuji, Flowers of Evil, Savage Garden, and Nana.

-Gasp- we have similar taste.

Full Metal Alchemist
Hana Kimi
Ludwig Kakumei (Same mangaka as godchild)
Witch Hunter
Double Arts (short lived but still good)
Natsume Yuujinchou
Oresama Teacher
Kimi wa Pet
Special A

And the things people already said such as: Kuroshitsuji, Nana, Ouran High School Host Club, 1/2 Prince, and beelzebub.

Happy reading.

Everyone else has recommended really good ones.

I just want to add Usagi Drop - a realistic, feel-good child-care story in case you're bored of "romance" but are interested in relationships.

As for romance --
Hanatsukihime is a nice, short read.
Otokomae! Beads Kurabu was a fun read (I <3 quirky characters).
Yuru Koi was a nice, soft romance.
Shuukatsu!! - Kimi ni Naitei was the second manga I ever read (after Furuba) which I adore.

One-shots --
Nonchan to Watashi
Bus Hashiru
Nanairo Sekai
Hotarubi no Mori E (title story)

I second --
Kuroshitsuji - I admit, I had a hard time getting into it, but when I read volume 2, wow... it got super interesting.
Shiawase Kissa Sanchoume is a cute one with lovable characters... oh oblivious romance.
Natsume Yuujinchou is incredibly touching (but I watched the anime, which I totally recommend).

You can try my favorite manga Aria; but read the prequel Aqua first, it's only 9 chapters.

I want to second Samurai High School and Nononono (they are pure brilliance), but from looking at your list, maybe... NOT.

Maybe you could try Teiden Shoujo to Hanemushi no Orchestra.

You are like the dense main character in a shoujo manga.

i third! or fourth kuroshitsuji. release it faster yen press!

i really enjoyed breaker good martial arts, weak->lead, and a series that isn't too cliched

in savage garden yeah, there's bl but it's not really all that important i think. considering that she crossdresses, the main focus will be the straight guys wondering what the heck happened to their straightness

my all time fav [m]skip beat[/m] release it faster viz, damn you!

and i know you didn't mention anime but i hear that hetalia the anime version was pretty good. i wasn't all that impressed with the manga.
