OK, replacing the repetitive tag with formulaic seems like a good solution. The only trouble is those 5 series that are under repetitive right now... I wasn't able to tell from the descriptions which should actually get changed to formulaic and which just got tagged because people didn't like the series (and should be deleted from the category... probably most of them, but I'd like to know for sure).

to Kitty18dnsz: "Student committee" might work (just committee seems too vague). As long as people don't misunderstand it to mean the student council...

Quote from Dr. Love
The Female Author tag was implicitly understood as "Female Author (in male demographics)" aka Shounen/Seinen which is a rare occurrence and quite an interesting tidbit.
Ah, I didn't know that it was just for male demographics... Since female authors are uncommon in male demographics (and vice-versa), I think it's probably noteworthy enough to have a tag. (The counter-argument, though, would be that people could just as easily click on the author in the author field and find out their sex that way.)
Quote from holy'bell
Having a (female/male) author who writes a manga and having a (female/male) author in a manga are two separate people, and would cause confusion whether a (female/male) author actually exists in said manga.
That's definitely true... but if the tag were phrased specifically enough, maybe the confusion could be avoided. What about "male demographic authored by female" (and "female demographic authored by male")?

Quote from somemango
About the Adapted to/from something or the awards categories, wouldn't it be better if they were in a separate section like the genres are.
You're saying, they get voted up easily, so they get moved to the top of the list, displacing plot-related tags? Hmm, well, I guess that's true, but they usually only take up one or two slots. And info like award-winning, adapted from anime, etc., fit really conveniently into the categories system... It just seems like it would be a lot of trouble to split them and the plot-related tags apart for only a small gain.

Quote from somemango
On a completely unrelated matter, I have noticed there is Japan category. I seriously doubt of its usefulness in a manga database...
Agreed, most manga are set in Japan, so it makes more sense to tag manga that are not in Japan, since they're the unusual ones. The tag would work if it were used for manga about Japan (society, government), but the vast majority under that tag aren't (I renamed the few that were), so I'll go ahead and delete the Japan category.

Shouldn't there be a Gyaru tag? I see there's kogal tag but that's a subculture of the broader Gyaru culture which is much more wide and encompassing. Considering it's such a big culture in Japan logically there will also be quite a substantial amount of gyaru characters which the tag would be useful for. There's also a ganguro tag but again part of the broader Gyaru culture. Most of them aren't even ganguro.

I don't know how to feel about the Angst category since it's quite subjective.

OK, I didn't know anything about gal culture before this, but according to everything I looked up, kogals and ganguro gals are indeed just subtypes of "gal." So I merged them both into a Gyaru tag. (I think people might misunderstand a Gal tag to just mean "girl," so I went with the direct romanization).

About the Angst category, I'm going to leave it. It certainly has potential to be abused, but I'm sure there are plenty of manga with angst as a major theme.

Quote from somemango
It would also be nice if it was possible to have category links/tree like it is done on Wikis. Ex Dead Parents is a subcategory of Dead Family Members which is a subcategory of Death, etc...
That's a cool idea. But it'll be a lot of work organizing the tree's structure and maintaining it, and I wonder if many people would even use it. So I'm not sure of it'd be worth the work.

Manga name, tag , tag score.
Kimi ga Uso o Tsuita Incest -43
100% Perfect Girl Pregnancy -2 , Rape 1 (this is a 26/25 vote since it's so split I would think it's best to remove it)

Melodramatic Library Misunderstanding/s -5
Rensou Mode Delinquent/s -2
Birthday Presents Abusive Parent/s -3

Of all of those, I'm leaving the Rape one for 100% Perfect Girl since I've never read this series and am unsure if I should

Someone pointed out in a thread. There's a whole list of manga with both Hentai, and Borderline H attached. Search results.

Some of them are just Hentai and don't need the Borderline H tag, and others are not Hentai and don't need the Hentai tag.
Like Glass no Megami is Borderline H, but has hentai tag as well.
Kairaku Before After is Hentai. ( I pretty much just skimmed this one)

We should have a tag for "Short Chapter/s" Some people like to read but hate having short chapters, there are a lot of series that it would fall on
Himouto! Umaru-chan
Honto no Kanojo
Oddman 11
Jashin-chan Dropkick
Minamoto-kun Monogatari
Nichijou
Petit Petit Tantan Petit Tantan
are just a few examples. I tried to add it once before but it was deleted pretty fast, then I was told that I should make a suggestion on here before I did it so now here I am.

@lifeanddeath2012 it seems there's still a short chapter/s tag. I guess the question is who deleted the ones you tagged with those.
- sidenote short chapter/s would be how many pages or less? 20 or less? 15 or less? 30 or less?

I was wonder why there wasn't a half siblings tag. Since there is none may I suggest adding one?
Yes I know you can technically count half siblings under siblings, but when some put stepsiblings when they are half. I don't maybe they somehow think they are the same. Which of course they are not. Siblings being brother(s) and sister(s) related by blood by both parents, Half siblings being related by blood by one parent, and step siblings being related from their parents being married, but no blood relation.

Yes although in real life I wouldn't call my half sibling a half sibling, and just sibling. In manga when they make it very clear through out the whole story that they are half related by blood. I think is a good enough reason it should get it's own tag.

2nd sidenote- no response to my last post in this thread? I mean those two tags can't be together it's illogical. Either a manga is H or it is not. It cannot be borderline if it is H, and if it is just borderline, it is never H. Those are mutually exclusive. (quoting someone who worded this better than I can)
(Yes I know I can get rid of the hentai ones myself, but I can't for the borderlines. The reason why I made the comment was maybe to lock the tag once it's fixed. Also maybe seeing which one was added 2nd? maybe the 2nd one added is the wrong one? )

To qualify I'd say that atleast 80% of the chapters of a series has to be less than 15 pages, because 20-30 pages is the average length of a chapter.

It is a problem, but the trouble is that fixing it is very difficult. Obviously only one of them should stay, but without having read a series, I don't know which to remove. (I haven't read any of the series in question and don't plan to.) Also, the fact that they're labeled both borderline H and hentai might even mean that there's disagreement about which a series is, which makes it even harder. I feel like I shouldn't just quickly take a person's word for it without some proof/explanation (e.g., "I have read most of this series and every single chapter contains explicit intercourse scenes").

It's an interesting bit of trivia about a series, but do enough people even care about chapter length? I remember we had a site poll about it once, and I'm sure that the winning option was something to the effect of "I really don't care."

Sounds fine to me, add it if you like.

To try to help with the Hentai, Borderline H problem I made this thread. Have you read these? (help) If you (Any staff member) can keep an eye on it.

Also here's a list of mangas with incorrect tags,
Manga: Tag (score)
Prisoner: Incest (-11)
Desire Climax: Incest (-8), this one is actually a False Incest.
Tomodachi no Hanashi: Phobia/s (-9), Collection of Inter-Linked Stories (-11)

The rest are Collection of Inter-Linked Stories, and not Collection of Short Stories / Oneshots
Hada no Ue no Renai Jijou
Kaizoku Game
Ouji-sama Game

Suggestion-
What about a On hiatus tag?
There's one for Rushed Ending/Axed, and there's ways to filter out ongoing or completed mangas, but none for manga on hiatus. Seeing as that's a limbo area, when it comes to complete, dropped, and ongoing. I think it would be nice to have that as a tag.
(Mostly because I want to exclude those from my searches).
The only problem I see is it being a temp tag for series until it either starts back up, or gets officially dropped, but considering how long the tag would stay there I still think it's a good suggestion.

.... I made a Student committee tag, and was going to add more, when I saw the tag was deleted ... I thought I got a green light to make it ...
My post asking here
Reply.
(Maybe because I took too long to make it ...)

That's a bit further than I would have gone, but if it helps to correct some of those series, then I don't see the harm. I just hope it won't cause too many squabbles... since I've noticed that there seems to be a degree of misunderstanding about the terms among some of the community.

Quote from Kitty18dnsz

From what I can tell, you're right about all of those, so I removed them.

Quote from Kitty18dnsz
The rest are Collection of Inter-Linked Stories, and not Collection of Short Stories / Oneshots. ...
Ah, I've been pondering this for a while but haven't reached a conclusion yet: a collection of inter-linked stories is also technically a collection of short stories--so should a series that's a collection of inter-linked stories get both tags, or just the inter-linked one? (Meaning "Collection of Short Stories / Oneshots" would then only be used for collections of unrelated short stories & oneshots. In that scenario, I would add "unrelated" to the category name to make the distinction clear.) Anyone, thoughts?

Quote from Kitty18dnsz
What about a On hiatus tag?
I definitely see the appeal of being able to filter out series that are on hiatus. But since the "on hiatus" status will eventually change, I think this would be better dealt with through an advanced search filter option (similar to "only show completed manga," etc.). It's already included in the status field for each series, after all (which is what that filter would use). An on hiatus tag would be extra info to enter, and I think its addition and especially its removal will probably lag significantly. The Rushed Ending/Axed tag is a little different because it provides info that is not already in the status field (well, the rushed ending part at least) and is permanent.

Quote from Kitty18dnsz
.... I made a Student committee tag, and was going to add more, when I saw the tag was deleted ... I thought I got a green light to make it ...
Someone probably thought that what you meant was "student council"... I thought that might happen. Unfortunately, because the staff members with coding skills are not often available to make improvements to the category feature, staff management of categories is functional but not very well-coordinated yet. Right now, there isn't any official (staff-wide) approving or rejecting of tags; instead, staff members act individually to weed out bad ones, consolidate repetitive ones, etc., after they have been added by users. Any staff member making category changes should be checking this thread periodically, but there's no guarantee that everyone does. In other words, I said that I think that "student committee" (not student council) is an acceptable tag and nobody who viewed that post objected, but another staff member, most likely one who didn't see that post, either misunderstood it to mean student council or disliked it.

My opinion is re-add the category if you can think of a clearer name. All I can think of are "Non-Student-Council Student Committee" and "Student Committee (Not Student Council)," which are clear but awfully clunky.

The "Breakup/s" tag seems to have disappeared altogether (e.g. from Boku to Watashi no Henai Jijou). Shall I make a new one or is it a bug?

Tripitaka: "Breakup/s" seems like a pretty legitimate tag to me, so I'm guessing it was probably a mistake. I'd say re-add it.

mu2020: Fixed.
