Hello, I am looking for school-story manga or anything that deals with high school life. It can be both shoujo or shounen, as long as it falls under the genre of romance, comedy, drama.
I have read Kamio Youko's Cat Street (and HYD of course) and I like how she creates her main character. Not the ditzy, clumsy shoujo heroine I read alot. I'm looking for a manga with strong main characters like Kamio Youko's.
😀 I hope it's not too much to ask.

Toradora sounds interesting!

What about some shoujo? Is Nodame Cantabile ok for a josei?

It's considered psychological as the manga is not simply about how the realationship between the characters grows, but also how they grow internally and resolve the conflict within themselves. An exceptional shoujo manga for me as it's far from the typical shoujo fare.

Sounds interesting...but I have a question...is there a difference between the scanlated manga and the US version of it?

Coz sometimes, there's some difference in translation, use of words, etc.

Thanks

I'll just answer this question, since it seems to be a "general" question. Sorry, I can't really help with your thread in recommendations since I don't read shoujo/josei =[.

Anyways, all US versions of a manga differ from scanlations, of course unless the scanlation is just a direct scanlated version of the US version. [note: sometimes translating companies will steal the scanlations made by fans and use it for their own publication in the US version...] Also, scanlations are FANMADE translations, which is just a side-project for individuals, so they will obviously be different since different people are translating it. The US versions tend to be sometimes worse than the scanlated version, since they aim at the regular "American readers" category so they change words around and put in totally irrelevant American slangs in there sometimes. An example of this is Getbackers manga. The Tokyopop version basically butchered the translations by adding their own "style" to it to appeal to their American readers [such as putting in excessive "DUDE!' and stuff like that]. The scanlation version doesn't, and accurately translates to Japanese as closely as possible. But the translations usually end up meaning the same idea, take or leave a few misinterpretations from both sides.

It sounds interesting though. But I'll probably read it when it's done scanlating. I prefer it that way hehe.

Has anyone read The Kidnapping of Minja Jo's Boyfriend? Is it okay for a manhwa?

whoa really?!? 😲 that's the first time I've heard. But I'm wondering about the Kare Kano scanlated ver. and the US ver. since half of the series I can find is the US ver.

Well... Blue Spring is a one-off volume of short stories set in high-school. It falls under Drama, and there's some black and cynical humour in it, but I extremely doubt its to your tastes.
The artwork is extremely gritty and alternative, many have put it down simply because of how "ugly" (beautiful, in my opinion) it is.
And storywise, its not for kids. Sex, several scenes containing suicide, Russian roulette, vandalism, extreme violence, Yakuza....

Junai Tokkou Taichou! the main charachters are strong physically
Mel Kano the story happens most of the time outside of the school
Nazo no Kanojo X maybe you will like this idea of sharing thoughts
Pig Bride it is still unknow what type of character the girl has, but she seems strong
Tomodachi
Zippy Ziggy the comedy is the main aspect, there is also a little bit of martial arts, but until now you don't get to see much of it

Hmm, okay, I'll try all your suggestions. Haha, more new mangas for me to read.
Blue Spring seems different from those that I usually read, but I'll try to read it still

😀
