Really sorry if this has been mentioned before, and maybe it has but couldn't find a specific thread for it.

Anyway, I'm basically looking for a setting as the topic describes. Basically looking for a manga where the central character is a female samurai/ knight/ ninja/ assassin whatever, both in a historical and adventure setting. Fantasy elements within the plot are totally fine. I'm looking for a manga where the heroine is the central character, not a 'sidekick' character who accompanies the male character on his journeys for whatever reason. There are plenty of shounen and seinen manga which have that.

There are plenty of examples out there such as saver and Claymore are one's that I've read and enjoyed a lot. Kurohime kind of counts, but has a bit to many 'modern' elements, such as guns, which I prefer to avoid. Red River I've read and it kinda counts as well, but while I enjoyed it a great deal, I prefer the heroine to be as independent as possible and not saved by others at every turn.

Romance would also be a major plus, but not necessary.

bleh... hope that makes sense, but anyone, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Again, apologies if there has been a similar thread like this before but couldn't find it.

you could try basara, but i dont think the art will suit you, but its kinda like saver. the art and the plot start off so-so and gets better, well if you think about it the main character IS a girl, but still a crybaby, but try it if you like historical settings, strategical battles and war-kinda manga.there a little romance too. i am into manga where the main character is the girl, but independent(saver my favorite biggrin ),but dont not really like historical settings, if you know anything besides this and the ones you posted, please tell me biggrin

Might want to try Otoyomegatari. Also has scenery porn to boot.

I think Blade of the Immortal works, though its really quite dark and gory. Don't know if you like that stuff, but yeah, it's something I would recommend.

I would definitely recommend Sengoku Strays for this topic. She is technically from the present but goes back in time to the Sengoku era. Plus, she is incredible with swords. biggrin

Y十M

In 17th century Japan, a rebellion in the Aizu territory has been brutally crushed, leaving twenty-one brave warriors dead and most of the nuns of the local convent slaughtered. Now the surviving nuns have sworn to seek revenge.

Ahhh, I want to also suggest reading Sengoku Strays. It's an all-around amazing series. Very nice art, and the chic is really skilled.
