I'm looking for series that stand out from their genres as being unique and interesting, or the epitome of the genre. I've gotten mildly bored of the same story repeating itself with different names. (ex anything by Hwang Mi Ri and Han Yu-Rang really.) Though if a series puts an entirely new spin on a cliche that makes the series interesting, I won't say no as long as it keeps it up through the series.

Any genre is fine or length is fine, from one-shots to 300+ chapters. I'm not picky in that regard.

Since you stated that any genre is acceptable, I'm recommending series that contain violence and sexual content...

Journey to the End of the World is an excellent work, and probably unlike anything you've read previously (as well as any other works by the Nishioka siblings).

I'd also recommend checking out most of the series on its recommendations list, particularly the following:
Ryuuguuden
Milk Closet
Nijigahara Holograph
Plastic Girl (FURUYA Usamaru)
Ranman

Edit:
Also, if you're up for a recently started series, you should check out Paperakyu.

I'm good with anything. I have read Liar Game, it's one of my favourites smile

I highly recommend Mon Seul for the top Psychological title out there, and IO for a great Mystery adventure in the Ocean.

There is also the one-shot Half & Half (SEO Kouji). Also, Nagasarete Airantou is a pretty unique (and true) harem not set in a school, but on an island of women.

I consider Ef - A Fairy Tale of the Two. to be the best Love Triangle manga, and it focuses on different, touching stories.

Tsuki Tsuki! - unusual male lead
Trinity Seven - very unusual male lead
Girls of The Wild's - hard to describe why, but it is unusual
XO Sisters - a guy gets transferred to an all-girls school... but everyone thinks he is gay and there is no actual harem going on xD
Fujimura-kun Meitsu - freaking hilarious and Eri is so awesome
Tales from the Land of Daughters - ShengNan's Story - too bad only a few chapters are translated
Immortal Rain - a shoujo which (mostly) reads like shounen
Dengeki Daisy - a quite good shoujo in which many shoujo cliches get averted smile
Hoshi no Samidare - good stuff
Vovnich Hotel - really good stuff. I wonder if you can get more unusual than this
Mysterious Girlfriend X - so mysterious... actually bizarre
Choku! - a less mysterious cousin of the previous title
Koharu no Hibi - because having a stalker girlfriend is so much fun, right?
Otoyomegatari - simply good stuff
Bitou Lollipop - a really unique shoujo title
Maoyuu Maou Yuusha - Kono Watashi no Mono Tonare, Yuusha yo Kotowaru - with a title this long, it has to be unique, right?
Dageki Joi Saori - Saori is going to bat you back into health using her trusty baseball bat
Gokusen - this math teacher is a heir to a yakuza clan
Sugar Dark: Umerareta Yami to Shoujo - I'm not sure how much unique it is, but it's good

Kino no Tabi and Mushishi are two really unique anime

You could also try (though less unique stuff):
Tende Freeze!
Unbalance x 2 Edit: - on the second thought, the male lead there was super decisive, so that would kind of make the manga unique
Tasogare Otome x Amnesia - it doesn't look all that unique, but it actually deconstructs many Japanese horror cliches

Space Ship EE
The Time Milk Wound the Spring
Hanshin

... y'know, looking at my list, most things at the top are fairly unique in various ways, so making a big long list feels redundant. If you're reading the same sort of story again and again, you must just be looking for the wrong things. Manga is pretty varied.

I just finished reading A Fairytale for the Demon Lord. This is by far one of the most unique (and confusing) mawha i've ever read. I've never come across anything like it before in the mawha or manga genres.

I'm sorry for getting off topic but i need to said how much i loved reading A Fairytale for the Demon Lord, i enjoyed the Nordic mythology references and with the amazing story and every thing else it was just too amazing. Thanks LilyLily for the recommendation, i can't wait for the second part.

also

if you haven't, try reading Shingeki no Kyojin, at the beginning it seems a bit standard but it has a twist...

And, my favourite Dorohedoro, really unique.
