The first 1-18 chapters are great, but the series starts to lose its flavor. It goes from Comedy / High school setting to a Martial Arts / Action High school setting. The character everyone thinks is the main protagonist turns out to be a side character. The fighting is just horrible. The only thing it has going is the art.

It is worth reading the first 20 chapters, any chapters after that is up to you to read.

At some random point in this manga, you're going to come across chapters and chapters of something you just don't find interesting at all. It's not that it isn't funny, likable, kinda silly, and amusingly parody-like. It is. It's just also boring. The author creates new characters like they're made from machines. It's a testament to his character creation skills that I can even still recognize most of them, but it's also repetitive and actually kind of annoying (because I don't care about them all that much.)

Like another commentor noted, I'd like more Zenkichi. He is honestly the most likable character there, and he also takes back-seat a lot, even though he's technically pretty much the second person we meet in the story. And to be honest, he's one of the few in the main cast who isn't just over-the-top strange, and I think it's a shame he's not more prominent, because it might balance out Medaka, who by now is just kind of dripping Mary Sue. She was always kind of on the edge to begin with, but her personality and occasional touches of humanity negated that very well, which was part of what was so good about this manga in the first place. But now... she's a virtuous saint with nearly invincible powers and not much else. Disappointing.

So back to my main point; in some chapter or other, you're probably going to be like "You know what, I no longer care" and just drop this manga. I started skipping chapters around the Amazing Battle Manga bits... I know, I know, I should plow on more and get to the amazing parts everyone assures me are to come, but I just can't bring myself to do it. It's probably one of the perils of being as cross-genre as it is.

She said, "Life is Epic" and what I thought was "Manga is Epic". Especially this manga. That may seem arrogant but I've loved this manga for how it was hard to understand and completely grasp. Frankly, it got boring at some point because the story did feel too pushed in a strange way. Then it got back up and for like, 40~50 chapters 'till the end it was non-stop Epic. NisioisiN is absolutely a genius, though he pushes it a little sometimes.

Oh yea, and Medaka being impossible to beat is probably what kept this manga together. I can see why it would annoy people (it angered me too), but damn, had she fallen even once on this run, the whole plot would have started falling apart. Because, except by some lame and cliche get-back-up-and-train (or some sh*t like that) chapters, the whole suggestion box would have lost its meaning. anyway, Medaka would have lost it.

In fact, Medaka is probably what you could wall the central pillar of the manga. She was made to be so important that as soon as she loses, the manga goes to its end.

Now, love is in the air, I guess we should have only a few chapters to go. maybe only one. Was Epic, loved it.

If you are going to read this manga, You Have To Roll With The Genre Changes!

"Action Comedy Ecchi Martial Arts Psychological School Life Shounen Supernatural"
Each and every one of these tags (with the OBVIOUS exception of ecchi) WILL NOT CONSTANTLY BE A PART OF THE SERIES. Starts with more comedy, switches to shonen battles, where I am at now it is increasingly psychological.

It is all I ever wanted in a manga.

Seriously, my one pet peeve with manga (unless they're episodic) is genres. I hate specific genres in a long manga! *RAWR!*

I just wish it had romance....

This is 1 weird as hell manga. Starts off as a Haruhi rip off then to avoid being canned it switches to a battle manga. It's fun to read but don't take it too seriously or expect it to make much sense if any at all.

this series seriously pulled one of those after the Unzen arc everything became kinda cloudy, confusing, and really lame. But I still don't want to stop reading, especially after coming this far, I want to see Zenkichi get together with Medeka. To be honest this manga could be easily saved if the mangaka ends it after this arc, or stops writing his chapters while on peyote and ripping off ten-ten. I don't see the first one happening because it seems he still wants to do more with the story so lets hope for the second one.
But when you think about it, MB could be a parody of shonen manga and their heroes. Because for the most part Medaka is your typical shonen hero, so maybe all the stupid things Medaka does and the now non-existent plot is all a parody on the absurdity of the shounen genre.

For an ecchi manga, it has a very unique story. For once, the female protagonist is not one of those helpless females that fawn over the male lead but vice versa. The female lead has a strong personality who apparently excels at mainly everything and it is apparent why the main protagonists like each other because of the positive qualities they both possess, not because of idiotic reasons. The romance is well understood unlike in most ecchi mangas where one questions "why in the world does the girl like a stupid guy like him" or vice versa.

Well, I've just read chapter 23 of Medaka Box manga. It was cool when I started reading the series.The first few chapters were pretty funny and a lots of comedy and then it turned into a shounen battle which sucked. The other main male character lost his role. I meant that he become sidelines. From major role to minor role, just like that. He lost his purpose on the manga. I'm sorry to say this but it's getting boring.

I like the story, although it reminds me of a mix between Haruhi and Yankee To Megane, not something completely original but the fact that Medaka is hot and totally superb at everything she does also totally outgoing and energetic, and her side kick who she drags around and most likely has deep feelings for him as he does for her, who is always there for her as her pillar of support is nice. The humor in this isn't necessarily funny, but it keeps the fun going on. Though sadly mangas like these won't become epic or anything of that sort, it has potential of becoming a really good manga and I really hope it does since I've totally fallen for Medaka.

I like mangas like these, they don't really follow a deep plot and follow on a day-to-day basis of high school. Nothing is really set in stone on this manga except for the fact that Medaka is a super charismatic girl that can do anything and that Zenkichi is a reliable person who has her back. It's a good light read, and keeps you entertained, I would really recommend it for someone who wants a nice and simple read.

Ok, Megaka Box. At the beginning, it was about the student council president, a perfect girl, and her childhood friend. She brought in a suggestion box, and began to form her council. Ok, that was good, it was a school-life based shounen manga.

Then it brought in the class 13 (well, I think it was class 13), people who are abnormal and have super powers basically, and there is some evil conspiracy about the school where something (I can't remember what, so it must've been something like death or something stupid) was going to happen to the regular student population. So they broke into the secret facility to fight them. Ok, moving to a school-life/battle shounen manga. That's good, it suits the abnormal student council president.

Then it was the minus arc. Ok, so there were powers that took rather than gave. That's cool, there is always room for two sides to a coin. So the team fought the new enemy, one of them who had a long history, since the beginning. Good continuity, not pulling plots out of their arse like some do. So once they clear the threat it's hunky dory.

Then came the not equals. It was a slight 'arse conjuring' plot development, but it could roll. With the future student council being made, yeah cool. This shounen actually planned for the future.

But then it started to go on about a weird test. What was that about? It was in the middle of an arc already, and it pulled what I like to call a 'Drum Arc' (a reference to the One Piece arc that split up the criminal organisation which name I can't spell's arc. If you don't know what I'm talking about, go read One Piece). It was a stupid trial, and my patience was at an end, so I dropped it.

I even look over the later chapters to see if the magic arse conjorur struck again, and it had. Lots. They were at the North Pole for crying out loud! How the hell? Even later, it talks about a magic warrior in a blood like which hits when they're 20.

Basically at around chapter 100ish, it went to shit. But what depresses me even more was the art. Not because it was bad, but because I thought it was bloody brilliant. If only the magic arse just stuck to the mangas that already abuse it...
