What I have in mind

First, this is a great series. It hooks you and makes you want to see what's next. This is where the cleverness of the mangaka comes in play. Though I said that, I deeply regret that I even tried to read this. It's depressing-not because of the value of the story-it's because the way the main character acts. He starts out nice - polite and brave. and then he transforms to this deeply in though melancholic type of guy, whom I'd love to beat the crap out of,
I just hope I'd dream about this series and had the chance to kill the main char.

If you like to torture yourself and read a depressing story, I suggest you try it now.
Don't regret it like me, you've been warned

the whole manga was going really well.... I loved it untill volume 5...

I thought he was more of cooler and level headed guy, I can see why he did what he did but I do NOT agree with his actions. he jump the gun too early and did something overly unforgivable

I'm into more of a straight romance between 2 person, my hate for it right now is just a personal thing but the manga overall is pretty good read, most of you probably wont have any problems with what happens in volume 5, so continue on

I'm trying to not give out any spoilers. this manga was good till the event in volume 5 in MY opinion. I'm hating the main char alot right now so I don't think I can continue reading this manga, it just droped from 10 to 0 so i gave it an average of 5 in between

Don't look at the summary and underestimate this... it starts out lightly then the plot just slowly drops and descends on you... for better or for worse, that depends if you liked KNIM. except the problem here is not a b$@%! herione, but lack of communication (or, the cliche word, misunderstanding, and jumping to conlcusions). Yeah. An adult/uni version of KNIM, although its not that similar, it's just the first thing i thought of.

The ecchi scenes in this don't even count, so don't worry about it.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
the whole ending everything with Ruka and going w/ Shimazu was so cliche though... and it dragged on for soooooooooooo long. The good thing about this frustrating part is that everyone is at fault, so no hate is focused on just one character. But seriously, Komai, HOW CAN YOU NOT CHECK YOUR MSGs. The special that featured him and Shimazu was good though, but it felt like the author was trying to justify them going out.

Can't give it a rating yet though because it that depends on how it ends.

For Better or For Worse?

Bear with Shizuka Komai ( the main protagonist)! He's a way better character than I expected.

And I thought that he was just a doormat, waiting to be all walked over by Ruka. Quite refreshing for the change.

The plot is definitely not as straightforward as it seems. Although sometimes it seems contrived, this is definitely heavy in the plot department. Kind of surprising for me after reading B. Shock!

This is a great story about two people who are very naive about matters of the heart. The story gets started innocently enough, and Komai and Ruka's relationship feels very natural (they start out as friends but they want to wait and see where it goes).

But like Chisa x Pon, there's a random bit of drama thrown in for the hell of it, and to make matters worse (like Xadhorn said) the lack of communication between the two leads is frustrating. I know that the title of this manga is roughly translated as "Awkward Love", but there's a difference between awkward and stupid.

If it weren't for all that time was wasted recently this would be sitting in the 8 to 9 range but I've dropped it to:

Deep plot with a lot of conflict

Others have said that they've raged at the story. To me, the fact that you would care so much about the actions of the characters says much about the characters themselves. The mangaka has done a great job with pacing. Never rushes into things, and the characters reveal themselves slowly instead of mangaka trying to tell us who the characters are. You begin to understand these characters and realize their feelings. That's why it's so tragic once the conflict begins.

Misunderstandings are the mother of conflict, and conflict is the mother of drama. Momentary misunderstandings in other manga can lead to things that go wrong. But it just sometimes feels so superficial and so... unplanned. But in this manga the relationships are revealed from the first chapter. As the chapters go on, these relationships begin to solidify in the eyes of the reader. The relationship is so believable and so realistic, that when the misunderstandings happen that lead to the questioning of these bonds... it's so ... believable. And heartbreaking. And that my friends is art.

Let's move on to the art. There is a lot of fanservice, and the main character has excellent bodily proportions. Is that what you wanted? Now you have no excuse. Read the manga.

I personally found it to be a good but also abit annoying story.

i see alot of myself actually in the main male character, but at some point i dont understand the lack of communication between the two. i know it makes for a interesting story but at some point it becomes just too annoying, atleast to me personally.

oh yeah, im glad she resisted the advances of her old crush, now i just wish he would get around and understand he is just scratching an open wound by doing what he is.

This manga is incredibly, incredibly rage-worthy. If you are prone to violent, manga-induced fits of rage, you might not want to read this.
And yet, goddamn it. It must be read. It's really, really very good.
Still. How can the author make us feel for the characters so much and then just make us hate, hate the story? Or rather, the events, because we know how things should be but why won't that happen?
It's a bit like how in a mystery, you as the reader are privileged with seeing the bigger picture. You can see how all the pieces fit together, and you just want to shout at the protagonists with the answer.
But the worst of it is, you really *empathise* with the characters, and their misfortune becomes your depression. It's brilliant for that aspect alone.

Oh, and if you want more Love & Rage, read Good Ending.

Enthralling story. Depressing story. Enthralling story. Depressing story.

You get the picture. The author puts his characters in such an awkward limbo of kind-of-happy but kind-of-unhappy that the discomfort is passed directly to the reader. I certainly hope the ending is cheerier, but I can't complain about the story so far.
