first: the characters are great, (I so love Akira <3), it feels great n_n (even though I sometimes feel that Hikaru is always thinking in herself like in the way she treats Kei ._. it gets tired to just watch the hard to get, don't wanna lose).

it's cute, in the way the characters are...it's funny.

But I'm at chapter 34 E_E and I'm getting tired!D:

read it if you like cute like cute things and you're patient!

Worth Reading

Definitely a manga worth reading.
Even though I have to agree with some of the earlier comments saying that at times it is just way too dragged out. 99 chapters are probably a tad too much, but when I look back I can´t remember NOT enjoying what I read. It is very shojo-like, funny, with a dense female protagonist and a seemingly cold character as the male lead.
Still I think it is different from all the typical cry-baby stories, because Hikari is as tough as one can be. Also, a thing I really liked was the fact that this manga didn´t just tell the lovestory of the protagonists, but also gave us little tids and bits of the life of the rest of the characters. It left me quite befuddled at times, because sometimes I enjoyed those side-stories more than the actual one.
Overall, being her first manga I can only compliment Minami Maki, because she created a believing, lovable story with wonderful, wonderful artwork. Just give it a try, you wont regret it.

I found this manga really hard to follow, the English just doesn't make sense! I don't understand who is narrating sometimes. And also the art is not that great and can Hikari be more dense? She is to the point of annoying! 2 pts for making me laugh every now and then in the 22 chapters that I've read.

Just read it this morning, and I only found it normal. I don't know exactly why, maybe this isn't my cup of tea.
About Hikari: She's really dense (although she's regarded clever and intelligent). Can't get why she don't realize Kei's love as well as her true feelings - They're sooo conspicuous!
About Kei: A good boy ^^ - though the way he's portrayed is quite unrealistic.
About others: They're very cutie - The most interesting one I see is Ryuu Tsuji who is loved by animals ^^

I can see why some people dislike this manga but for me, I felt nothing but joy. Having 99 chapters in total, there were moments where it dragged and chapters that were irrelevant and unnecessary. However the whole story is quite heartwarming. The relationship and feelings of Kei and Hikari is the main focus of course, but what really caught my attention was the friendship between the S.A. members. It was the whole group that resolved the conflict, not just the heroine. Each of them are also romantically involved with someone, and some within in the group, but at the end, nothing about their friendship changes. This is what really made me enjoy the series. The comedy was also great in this. I have never laughed out loud in real life when reading manga; this had me doing that every chapter. Another thing I appreciate is that the mangaka kept the rivalry between Kei and Hikari going throughout the whole series and until the end. These parts of a story are sometimes forgotten after a while and not mentioned again in series, so I was really glad the mangaka kept that going. Though the chapters leading up to the ending could've been better. Those felt rushed, and while I like the idea that the mangaka was going for when she was writing the ending, it could've been better executed.

You can say that I fell in love with the manga after reading the first few chapters, it relates to me so much. The anime is also good too, I love Special A. I like how the main couple isn't into "romance" and such so much, but more into education and such. The manga encourages me to study more, and actually go out and train to be the best. It's so sad that the story ended, but it will still always be the top on my list. biggrin

Couldn't wait until it was over...

I started the manga and kind of liked it, hoping that as I continued to read I would like it more and more, the opposite of that happened though, I began to like it less and less to the point of I couldn’t wait until it was over so I wouldn’t have to read it anymore! And that is a horrible feeling to have while reading a manga…

Plot- The plot is simple, and could have made a cute little story if it hadn’t been drug out for so long! Really, it began to get boring before I had even read halfway into the series! The series really could have been shortened, some side couples that really shouldn’t have been added could have been cut out, they weren’t needed and some seemed to be added only so that everyone got a happy ending. The same plot devices were used again and again, so while the story relied very little on the usual clichés it created its own clichés within the story. The story itself got silly, everyone is SA is superhuman in some way or another, making it unrealistic, and many of the situations were ridiculous. At first I kind of enjoyed the series, but as I read on I became a bit more bored, then a little more bored, and when I was finally in the chapter 75-80 I just wanted it to end, and the only reason I pushed myself to finish it was so I could give complete review.

Characters- The mains are all right in their own ways, Hikari’s dedication and optimistic spirit is very admirable, but she is WAY too dense!
Spoiler (highlight to view)
I mean Kei was clearly in love with her and everyone else saw this, except Hikari, she just couldn’t believe he liked her…
Her denseness got quite irritating fast. Kei is… thinking back there isn’t really anything that great about him, if you take Hikari away Kei turns into quite a boring character, his main characteristics are all traits that somehow link back to his liking Hikari, and that isn’t good in a character. And his traits got annoying after a while too, he was way too jealous and aggressive when it comes to his jealousy, and he can be quite controlling. The secondary characters appear and disappear when necessary, they are only there to hinder or help Hikari and Kei’s relationship. There were many couples between the secondary characters but when the story added that, it focused on it, usually for a chapter, and went as far as even excluding the mains for that chapter, making the chapters focused on secondary couples seem apart from the main story line, as if they were One Shot’s added onto the other completely different series. This was helped along by the fact that these couples were only mentioned every now again in those separate chapters and in the main story were hardly even mentioned.

Art- The art was all right, nothing special but not bad either. There are a lot of blocky areas of text in most chapters that are a bit bothersome to read so much at a time, way to much reading. The character designs could have been a bit better to, the more characters were introduced the less I could distinguish between characters, and sometimes the only way I knew which characters were which is if they were called by name, or the informative block’s of text would tell you all you need to know instead of just giving information in the dialog…

Other- I got so bored/annoyed at the main characters; their personalities began to get on my nerves along with their relationship. Hikari and Kei really need to have more trust in their relationship, but I can see why they don’t trust each other because for some reason they so often keep things secret from each other, and usually for no good reason! The same goes for their communication, they need to communicate better, and communicating better doesn’t include having a competition that whoever wins it gets to ask something/order the other person to do something/have a secret that the other person is holding back be told. As the story went on I began to like Hikari and Kei’s relationship less and less and began to like the side couples more and more, to the point I was excited when the chapters came that seemed to have no ties to the main story and in them Hikari and Kei were usually no where to be found or played minor rolls. These chapters, while still seeming strange with the overall story, were quite refreshing because I got a break from the mains! The story fell quite flat, there were so many disjointed arcs during the story that vaguely seemed to be leading up to something a little more interesting than the usual arcs but in the end fell quite flat and left me disappointed by the antagonist and the final ending of the story.
All in all I don’t recommend this manga, sure the first couple chapters might be interesting and fun, and many of the side couples can be interesting as well, reading the manga just for that isn’t worth your time and effort, and you’d be spending your time much more wisely reading a much better manga.

5/10 – Was all right

Not Bad at all..

This manga wasn't bad at all, i mean hikari is pretty dense and it look a while for her to figure out her feelings but when she did, things got a lot better smile I love their relationship and the things they go through in this manga, however, The ending could've been better, i mean at least show them getting married or something to end the manga cuz the way the mangaka ended it was kinda like it didnt end at all hahahha XD. The things hikari and kei say to each other in the end was cute and all but there was no closure and i think marriage would've been a great ending
I liked it though so if you're interested in hot guys and pretty girls, strong main character who's not a crybaby wimp who runs away all the time and the idea of romance and friendship going through obstacles for love then i suggest you read this manga smile
