My first manga ever and I loved/love it! I don't get why you don't like miaka? To me, she's so human, selfish, loving and so on..
Anyway, it's totaly a 100/10

Seriously, the only reason why I read the first volume was because I finished the anime. The characters are super hilairious and have awesome personalities (except for a certain main character >_>;. It's 18 volumes, which I think is a waste. If you want it short and simple, watch the anime. (The OVA's are pretty much worth watching the 52 episodes). But if you're not an anime fan, read the genbu series. It still has Yuu Watase's creative characters and plot without the annoying main character this one has >_>.

but I really hate this manga, the main girl is dump but she fights (a little bit) I dont know why almost all the guys full in love with her and/or have sex (or rape) her...In the end Mika is the only one with a good ending...btw she has a son with Tamahome XP *anger mark* I really hate her and I think Fushigi Yuugi wood be better without her (sorry for my bad spelling) -___-;;

Miaka may be an naive stupid clumsy thick headed idiot, but you've gotta admit, she grows on you. The characters have set and unique personalities. So there's a guy in this for every girl.
The story may be unbearably dramatic to many people. But cliche is my middle name.
Its a loving and heart warming story about an idiot that falls in love. Who wouldn't wanna miss it?
I read this a long time ago but Hotohori surprisingly still remains in my top five. Try it. Read it. If you hate it then... Ditch it. Pretty simple.

The art is stunning, there's no question about that. I could go on for hours about the art. There are numerous bishies, bishies that are both good for eyecandy AND interesting characters in their own right (perhaps with the exception of Tamahome). I absolutely adore Hotohori and Tasuki, and their only fault is that they're hung up over Miaka.

That's the one biggest problem in this series. Miaka. Fushigi Yuugi would have been a great manga without her, without Tamahome screaming "Miaka!!!" and her sobbing "Tamahome!" at every turn. We got the point after the first... 10 times? Not only is Miaka supposed to be "tough" and the all-important priestess, she's supposed to somehow save the world, when all she thinks about is how much she loves Tamahome. Constantly crying, never doing anything to help, but miraculously, almost every male in the entire series either falls deeply in love with her or wants to throw her onto a bed.

As if that isn't enough, her best friend is completely misguided and has jealousy issues, and they all end up unhappy in love and unhappy in life, except for Miaka, who has the most cliche happy ending ever. Even if you enjoy romance/fantasy series, I'd still recommend avoiding this one to save yourself hours and hours of frustration. If you like the art, then stare at the pretty artbooks instead.

Damn, this is one shojo manga that really gets on my nerve. Stupid , whiny, ugly heroine, and the fact that lots of guys fall for her makes me wonder 'are they out of their freaking mind?' .I tried to finish it lots of times, thinking 'it's gonna get better, it's so famous after all', but couldn't. To me, all it is is a cheesy soap opera; with me wanting to kill off whatever-her-name-is and the main guy with every page turned so I finally gave up after my 5th try or something >.<

Excluding Miaka and Yui being idiots, I love it! There were times when it was really sweet and times when it was really sad that I started to cry and scream to the computer screen... (no comment). And Fushigi Yuugi is very funny! Especially Nuriko and Tasuki! <333

Actually this manga is a 10/10 for me, but I marked it down 1 because the author made the best/funniest character in that manga die... *sob* R.I.P. Nuriko...

But overall it's really good, there are times when I thought Miaka and Yui were overreacting and it was irritating but I liked the plot and the characters and this was a really great manga for me.

i'v only liked 2 watase's works Fushigi yugi : MP and Ayashi no ceres but LOVED everything else besides sakura gari (yaoi T.T)

I didn't think Miaka was too terribly bad when I watched the anime. Actually FY was my favorite for about 3 months (That's a long time for something to be on my favorite list) Then I realized..What a second. I'm better than Miaka! And that is saying a whole lot!!

You have to love the bishounens though! Amiboshi! Suboshi! *sigh* Tasuki........
