This is frankly a very unknown manga. Probably most people were/will be led here because of the anime (which is as beautiful as this manga.) Honestly, I had no idea I'd be able to find something like this. It's a creative story about something that is uncommon. The art is lovely. Though, I guess I can't say much yet about the story itself... what with only 10 chapters scanlated and having only watched 3 episodes of the anime. I can already see that I'll enjoy this.

This is one of my favourite mangas. No questions asked. I honestly have to say that this manga can be read by everyone. All the characters are likable ( even the model sister, she's got her narcistic moments but she's funny) and there is a plotline OMG I am so sick of just plain drama themed mangas, there has to be some substance. I can't wait for the next volume, seriously if this could be bought in English I would absolutely spEnd the money
A good sports drama, a boring romance

When it sticks to sports drama its very enjoyable. But when it starts to focus on romance it goes downhill. The romance is poorly and sporadically handled, no matter which characters you like the main romance is going to piss you off.
Problems Connecting

I feel the same sense of disconnection when reading this series as I do with others that focus on specific board games. Possibly even more so because the game of Karuta is so deeply centralized in Japanese culture. The game itself is simple; an announcer reads the first 2 lines of a poem while the players try to remove the matching card that contains the last 3 lines of the poem. The problems, though, are plentiful.

- Karuta isn't a global game. Foreign readers miss the nuances and specifics within the Japanese language that play a vital role in Karuta. This boundary causes gaps between specific plays and the explanations that follow while also ensuring that those readers will never be able to play Karuta. Why read about a game that can't be played?
- The overall lack of strategy in Karuta is glaringly obvious. Memorization and quick reflexes rule Karuta to the point where Chihaya, the main character, and her teacher devise a method of shouting to destabilize her opponents.

i'm so totally into the whole series itself. xD
i couldn't wait what would happen after watching that BEAUTIFUL first episode
NOW, if only this manga get scanlated faster! i mean, why wasn't it scanlated a long time ago? it was an award winning series too! D:
with having 14 volumes, and still ongoing, we've got A LOT of chapters to catch up to! * 0*
(now i just wonder if the anime would cover the whole thing or cut off in the middle or something. Orz)
been looking for a series targeted for us females that are written very well. i mean, it's rare to find a non-cliche series nowadays, isn't it? and since majority of the really good ones, were either, completed or still ongoing but waiting for a chapter every month or so is painstaking.
can't wait to see how this story will progress♥

After watching the first episode of the anime I immediately looked for the manga. Too bad only 10 chapters been translated so far, but episode 5 covers up to that. Couldn't help myself, but I downloaded all the raw volumes up to 14 and skim through it because I really looking forward to finding out what happens even though I can't read Japanese, but skimming through gave me a general idea of what is going on.
My number 1 thing I want to know is who does Chihaya end up with. I know this manga doesn't have romance as a tag, but there is definitely something between the 3 main characters, so that is more interesting to me than them playing Karuta half the time I was skimming through, but as a skim through the volumes, I become quite disappointed. The reason is.... Arata is barely shown in all the volumes. He barely shows up half the time. I know this is about Chihaya, but since it's been established in the beginning that they started together and she actually went to chase him, you would expect him to show up more. Oh yeah, for everyone's information, I'm rooting for Arata instead of Taichi. I know there are a lot supporters for Taichi and even the volumes ahead seems to lean toward him because essentially he's the guy closest to Chihaya throughout the manga, they are in the same club and obviously has feelings for her and looks like Chihaya is leaning towards him too. Taichi in my opinion was one of those arrogant little boys which already gave me a bad impression of him from the beginning and swayed me towards Arata. He's also one of those mister perfect which is definitely shown in episode 7 when the kid with glasses was introduced. I hope she doesn't even up with him, if the mangaka plans to put some more romance into this, but as far as I can see it looks like she's writing towards that ending, which is pretty disappointing to me.
Anyway enough of ranting, everyone should be reading or watching the anime. I hope more chapters get translated soon! 14 volumes is a lot of catch up! Like others have said, this is definitely an underrated series and deserves more! Creative story and very entertaining.

i'm so excited about this. i don't even know what that card game is but the art is so cute and gorgeous (esp. the grown-up her) and the pacing and story's all going the way I like it. The scenes where they throw the cards are so DRAMATIC AND INTENSE. I actually want to see a game in person now lol! Great manga!

Chihaya is the most loveable character known to man, I LOVE her. I find her Ah-borable, loyal, determined, sweet and most of all COURAGEOUS! She's the girl I wish I had been at her age, -sigh-. Arata, and even Taichi, are cute as well. Taichi seems mean in the beginning, but further in the second chapter its exposed that his parents are very strict and want him to be the best (which makes him strive to be better than everyone else by any costs, so he doesn't get yelled at or maybe beatened).
I WANT MORE SCANS, pretty please!
