To pass the time I'm gonna ask for some more recommendations.

What I'm looking for today is a story about someone who is a pure genius at something, be it academics, sports, fighting, whatever.
The catch is that he is unmotivated to use his ability, like he tries to hide it or no one is worth the effort.
Or a genius who is a total slacker, someone who can perform incredibly without any effort at all.

I'm willing to go with any demographic short of shoujo-ai/shounen-ai or yuri/yaoi.

Examples would be
Tijikun, Majeh, Koukaku no regios and in a way wolf guy (although those are all the fighting sort)

Violet Blossoms, to an extent. It's about a girl that's an amazing artist but burns all of her drawings. She really does it more because she's ridiculously motivated - she only wants to keep the drawing that is the pinnacle of her abilities - than because she's unmotivated, though.

Still, I like this request, so I'm bumping it.

Thanks, but those are not quite what I had in mind.
I don't mind shoujos or anything, but the characters aren't quite as unmotivated or big a slacker as I'd like them to be.
So if anyone can thing of anything, please let me know.

What about...
Ransetsuki - the main guy doesn't like to use his sword even though he's really good with it.
Shibutani-kun Tomo no Kai - Range seems to be good at everything but also not serious about anything.
Beauty Pop - shoujo but the main girl isn't motivated.

Hope that helps

This might be a little out of your request but One is manga about a musical genius that at first doesn't want to stand out. But as the manga continues he does get wrapped up music but in an unsatisfactory fashion, as a pop idol lipsynching. It is really interesting how he overcomes the challenges and his final resolution.

This is more like it, thanks.
Now I just need one that has a bit more of an academics approach and everything will be good.

Those are some great series again, thanks a bunch.
And how could I forget about the world god only knows?
That is a great example, although he isn't really recognised as a genius. What I'm looking for is one where people know he/she is a genius.

Usui from Kaichou wa Maid-sama! shows many amazing talents that never get used other than to help Misaki

Naruse Kazuki from di(e)ce is very good at athletics but prefers to spend his time getting high scores on arcade games

The young Sima clan head from The Ravages of Time was first portrayed as lazy and only interested in making profit (and was rejected by water mirror as a pupil because of that)...not that he stayed like it for long
