Looking specifically in: shoujo and josei ONLY. smile

I want an angst-free romance in the sense that there are no ridiculous jealousy-induced moments or insecure/indecisive moments where the idiot couple angsts about silly things. I'm not saying there can't be any angst in the manga at all, but it shouldn't be in the romance itself. Rather, it can be due to outside factors - exam stress, job problems, social/political issues, financial pressures, family troubles, etc. If there is angst in the story it can be from anything else EXCEPT the romance. The romance itself should be angst-free. It should be a solid bedrock that nourishes and supports the lovers, that they can always count on, and that doesn't cause them any unnecessary grief.

Basically the love-relationship should have NO ANGST, even if the rest of the manga does. It should be obvious that the characters love each other, and it should be simple and sweet and uncomplicated and heart-warming. Just two people who are in love with each other and are obviously doing a good job of being in love. eyes

Lol, I'm suddenly sick of reading romances where people act like idiots and get worked up over nothing and cook up drama over nothing, as if they didn't have ANY emotional intelligence at all and were determined to misunderstand each other no matter what. embarrassed For once, I'd like to read something where functional people have a functional romance, and where the lovers don't treat their relationship as if it's rocket science. If you love each other, just love each other, jeez. It ain't that difficult.

I think that Akagami no Shirayuki Hime is like that, at least where I'm up to reading it right now (correct me if it changes later on).

Any other ideas? For some reason, I can't seem to remember any other angst-free romance! Is it really such a rare beast, especially in shoujo and josei? Lol! Help me hunt this beastie down!

I wonder if Nodame Cantabile would fit...
It was like this most of the time, and the only pressure was academic or career related.
There were troubles with the family, too.

Their romance wasn't really romantic most of the time, though.
It was Nodame jumping Chiaki... Near the end, it got somewhat more emotional...

Ashita no Ousama perhaps... the romance isn't really the focus, but there's really never a question of who likes who or any serious complications... the couple of misunderstandings that arise are easily resolved.
Dear Mine may perhaps apply as well... the boy has his mind set and doesn't waver, and the girl's reluctance comes from his age and her circumstances--outside influences I'd consider--he supports her throughout and her feelings change... one of my favorite shoujo manga. (angst and love triangles and such annoy me as well) If you don't consider a certain innocence to be angst you shouldn't have any problems.

I've been looking for manga like this as well. The typical high school romances with the naive main lead have been driving me insane!

The first thing that came to mind was the manga Solanin. However, it's a tragedy, but the dynamics between the main couple are cute.

Thank you everyone! And djbreezy, I can TOTALLY relate with the frustration of reading about ridiculously silly, angsty high school romances! Gwah. @_@

I also just remembered that a PERFECT romance, so sweet it's just plain beautiful, can be found in Be With You. Sure, there are some sad moments, but they're for other reasons.

Kimi Kara no Resume is angst-free so far, in the sense that the angst comes from work situations more than anything else, and the romance is really kind of sweet. Only up to where I've read, though - pls warn me if you know that it gets angsty later on!

Spoiler (highlight to view)
in later volumes there is some kind of breakdown for the couple but while they struggle after that, i wouldn't call it "angst"

that's how i recall it, read it a few years ago. still a very enjoyable manga imo

Atashi wa Bamby : there is some jealousy/rivalry, but it's too sweet that it's so heart-warming (my favorite shojo so far xD)

Kiss/Hug comes to mind. No conflict here, but it's funny and sweet.

Sora Log is one of the cutest angst-free (for now) manga I've been reading.

Problem is the guy is just so freaking lame. He's like that side character from Koukou Debut but with an even worse haircut. The glossing over the whole playing an instrument/in a band thing doesn't help either.

Land of the Blindfolded - There is a love triangle, but not really, because the main couple never wavers. They just take the would-be interloper under their wing as their friend. And there is more to the story than romance.

Akaku Saku Koe also manages to avoid love-related relationship angst, but the plot sort of loses steam in the middle.

Eikaiwa School Wars could be like that, specially since the guy is older and mature.
I second Beauty is the beast (written by the same mangaka)
The Demon Ororon (although it's not essencially about their relathionship, since its a fantasy story and the girl has her own issues)
Kiss XXXX (they're really easy going lol)
Kirai (the girl is strong and knows what she wants, so it's not packed with shoujo cliches or angst)
Hope I was of help ^ ^ (and sorry for my bad english)

Lol I like the fact that the guy is plain and not extremely eye-catching like the one in Koukou Debut.
And the haircut is what all baseball players have. xD

Anything by MATSUMOTO Tomo is pretty much angst-free.
