Well, I'm basically looking for a romance with action and plot. Or an action with plot and romance. Whichever way you prefer it.
I'd love to read something like C-Blossom - Case 729, where you actually have a police case and romance in the background. Detective investigations would be good, too.
I want intrigue ._. And plot. I've read too many shallow shoujo, lately.

Suzumiya haruhi has a bit of intrigue. There are certain episodes in the anime that invovle murder and others the dissapearance of a person. Also has romance, action, and a plot

I'm going to go out on a limb a little bit and suggest the Evangelion manga. I think that should have enough intrigue to satisfy you. No police cases though.

Well I don't know about intrigue since it's a fantasy/historical setting, but Red River must be one of the better romantic themed manga of all time. Trust me, I don't like shoujo usually, but this is one series that I couldn't let go. And don't let the old school artwork stop you, it's an all time classic. Romance is very central, but it's really about the evolution of the characters as they deal with changing circumstances. Although the plot is quite straightforward, the settings change all the time so that will definitely keep you entertained: you've got wars, betrayals, and politics mixed in with the romance.
Two other good titles are Tokyo Crazy Paradise and Superior.
