Azumi, Otoyomegatari and maybe even Shut Hell will be to your liking.

Did you bother to check the several threads that already exist such as these?
You could also try a genre with category search, and it will yield many results such as those

The thing is I don't want just any historical manga look at the topic title before you post stuff like this.

well, you already got Anatolia Story (Red River) & Otoyomegatari recommended, should definitely read those, they fit, like 100%

i just started Joou no Hana it looks really promising, however only 2 volumes out of 8 have been scanlated so far

hostorical w female lead...hmmm maybe, yup Chrno Crusade also fits there, it's fantastic, but it has demons...not sure how much of our known real history is that...

that makes me wanna ask - historical w female lead, does it have to be only real/based on history or fantasy mixed in it is ok?

if yes, then you might also like Kanata Kara if fantasy is ok

from what i remember Real Fake Princess also fits, read it years ago & i don't think it had any magic/fantasy...yup, no fairy stuff smile wink grin

Fushigi Yuugi
Fushigi Yuugi: Genbu Kaiden
=> modern day female lead sent back to a "legendary past" (ancient-China-inspired) in which magic plays an important role

Read it yeeeeaaaaaars ago, thought it was fine, but from what i can remember it does have a cheesy romance factored in.
