i have not read 7 seeds, its on my with list but i have been kinda put off by the drawings but if its really good ill read it anyway. ]

I second 7 seeds

The art doesn't detract from the story or characters. It's a really 90s shoujo art but you get use to it after reading it, you'll be missing out on a great series if you let art bother you.

7 seeds is by far the best mange I have ever read, would totally recommend it! The art was not much to my liking at the beginning, but now I adore it <3

Other mangas that I love and which have complicated storylines are

Kaguya Hime
Chang Ge Xing
The Pale Horse
Shingeki no Kyojin
Oboreru Knife

i am already currently reading chang ge xing, the pale horse, and attack on titan and yes these are very good examples of what i really like to read. i am definitely going to read kaguya hime it looks very interesting, and as for oboreru knife i havent read this one yet because of a few of the categories that i didnt like but ill try it anyway if the storyline is complex.
thanks for all the suggestions deathless!

Actually a group (Babo Kim Scans) restarted Kubera using javascript overlay (it sounds complicated but it takes only a few seconds to set up, tell your sister if she doesn't know). So basically you'll be reading directly at the raws page, but with bits of scanlated images on top. xD That said, you have plenty of good series to read now, so it's fine to put it off. smile

You seem to be worried about depressing stories though. I Will warn you that it gets hella depressing. It's not depressing in the sense of 'everybody dies', but in the sense of 'just put that poor thing out of his/her misery already.' T__T (just to warn you xD )

About 7 Seeds, I'd like to add that although the art style really takes some getting used to at first, once you're used to it, it's incredibly expressive. I didn't like it either at first, but now there are many moments when I think it's really beautiful. smile

Oh! By the way, adding Qualia the Purple. It's short, and it looks like a typical yuri at first, but whoooa it becomes totally mindblowing (just look at the reviews).

never heard of billy bat so ill try this one, i have tried liar game but didnt get very far for some reason, ill try it again. and i totally agree with you with otoyomegatari the art is amazing! i have only read the first volume of this one because i wanted to read it as i buy them so i didnt know that it shows other characters perspective in it, thanks i think ill go buy the next volume now.
never heard of uchuu either, looks like a slice of life one, thanks ill try it!
thank you for all your suggs! smile

wow SO MANY MANGA!!!! haha thanks so much guys now i can read manga all day yay!
any more suggestions are definitely welcome!

I'm glad my suggs were appreciated. biggrin

Billy Bat is the newest work by URASAWA Naoki, a genius IMO. Other famous works: Monster, 20 Seiki Shounen etc. Since they've been suggested and seconded above, I thought you would figure out by yourself. cool

So you prefer good artwork, huh? Of course me too. biggrin Unfortunately the art in Liar Game is not this great, but the story definitely is worth to try nevertheless.

As for Otoyomegatari: if I remember right, are vol 1+2 with the MC, vol 3-5 focus on several side characters until it's getting back in vol. 6 to the MC. We'll see how's this going on...

Uchuu Kyoudai: I came with the amazing anime (99 ep.) to the manga. You're right with slice of life, but main theme is astronaut recruiting and training. The sci-fi tag fits not really in this series.

You're welcome. I forgot to mention Mahou Tsukai no Yome by YAMAZAKI Kore. The story is still in its early stages of development but I have a notion that this one will become a masterpiece. The mangaka's worldbuilding skills, writing voice and art style are splendid so far. Plus, the references to European/ Gaelic folklore are well-researched.

By the way, are you only looking for manga or for other media as well?

i have been doing that for cheese in the trap but i did not know that they were doing the javascript for kubera as well, thanks haha and my sister says thanks too. she freaked when i set it up for her lol.
and yeah depressing stories are not really my thing so maybe ill wait until its over and ask my sister about the ending.
and yeah it seems like that is a lot of peoples opinion of 7 seeds drawings so thanks i hope i come to like them too.
and as for qualia, i dont know BL/GL really isnt my thing but ill look at it.
thanks!

and otoyomegatari looks like it could really get interesting thanks ill speed up my readings on this one. and i didnt know uchuu had an anime, i think ill try the anime out first thanks! biggrin

You should absolutely try the anime first. It follows the manga chapters very properly, also the character design is exactly the same. But be warned: it is very addictive! The anime stops at chapter 187 so you could easily continue at this point with the manga. I did it the same way. smile
Btw, there's also a live-action film. But dunno how it is. I'm not into Asian films.

I third Ooku it's just lovely, though I recommend reading the English publication if you could get your hands on those.

7 Seeds is also amazing and it might just be because I got into manga years ago when the art was just starting to change, but I think it's really quite beautiful. The detail in the floral and fauna is just awesome.

Anyway, I'm suggesting Ran to Haiiro no Sekai since even the characters aren't too complicated, the world is really well built with a wonderful art style. Just think of the flow and life of Shoukoku no Altair's art in a wonderfully colorful fantasy world, and you get Ran to Haiiro no Sekai. It's also more light-hearted than what's been just suggested (though I did shed a few tears in recent chapters not because of it being depressing, but because when the main character cried, I couldn't help but cry with her).

Kagerou Days the story is so complicated I don't even know who is who and what is happening right now >< I guess I'll have to restart this when it's finished because my brain melts thinking about it ^^

if you are okay with light novels:
Spice & Wolf (Novel) well obvious, each arc follows: premise-progression-twist-solution but characters are handled pretty well
Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria (Novel) limited characters at start but pretty complex

i didnt know ooku was published in english, thanks ill definitely go and buy those and read them that way. and i never knew 7 seeds was so popular, i myself just found it a couple months ago, and seeing how a lot of people are telling me that the art gets better i should probably stop thinking about it and just read it already haha.
and ran to haiiro no sekai looks awesome, and if it is anything like shoukoku no altair, count me in!
thank you for your suggestions!

i actually just started the novel of kagerou days and just finished the first volume, i have liked what i read so far, i just wish the main guy wasnt such a wimp cry
and i have tried watching the anime of spice and wolf but have never really gotten into it, but ill try the novel anyway since most of the time i like reading the novels more then any of the other media types.
and as for maria, i have actually read up to volume 4 of this one and although i thought the first and second volume were amazing i didnt like how his friends turns evilish in the 3rd/4th volume and then just disappears so i stopped reading it after that, so i have a question. does his friend ever come back or does it just leave it like that? thanks for your time

compared to the light novel the anime is just bad, the only redeeming thing is the music and that it follows the story, but the whole point is that you hear each one and most importantly only lawrence's thoughts in the novel. even the few bits of illustration are way better than in the anime (especially holo).

if he just left, don't worry he'll be there until the end of vol.6 where everythings starts to go to hell... literally... the last few pages destroy pretty much everything that was build in those 6 volumes ><
in a good way though, if that's possible...

Battle Angel Alita and sequel

The original is old, but the sequel is still ongoing and the artwork just keeps getting better and better. The detail is amazing.

Story is psychological, philosophical, metaphysical, and sometimes just downright blood and gore. biggrin

Tokyo Ghoul - It starts slow, but once you get to a certain point
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Around chapter 60
, it just. You can't stop. The author makes the characters really detailed and puts in a lot of things you won't realize until you read it a few times through (or unless someone points it out). HIGHLY recommend.

Nagi no Asukara - It began as an anime, so it's better to watch. The characters are subtle, not as much detail in the world though.

Ran to Haiiro no Sekai - 11/10. Detailed art, story, background, everything.

Kubera - Exactly what you are looking for.

Honey and Clover - Personally, I only watched the anime. The characters are well thought out. Some things are subtle.

The people in the thread recommend some really nice mangas.

Seconding Vampire Juujikai, Monster, Please Save my Earth, Kaguya hime, 20th Century Boys. I haven't read 7seeds yet but it's by Tamura Yumi so it should be very good.

Another one I recommend is also by her, Basara. It's set in a historical-setting as well, there has been speculation and theories floating around that Basara might have been set after 7seeds
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
due to the apocalypse and stuff which made the Earth go backwards in regards to technology and such.
And the art isn't that bad.

If you like historical setting there's also Anatolia Story and Kanata Kara. All these are re-read worthy materials.

There's also Moon Child by the author of Kaguya hime. Shimizu Reiko likes sci-fic and stuff so it's pretty good.

You can try Eternal Sabbath as well. It's a sci-fic, but I have to warn you first the ending is sad, but it wasn't bad.

And if you like Vampire Juujikai (and its ending doesn't bother you), you can try Spiral - Suiri no Kizuna by the same author. It's complicated. Even after I finished it I still don't fully understand.

I can't think of any other stuff now but that's all from me for now.
