Site Poll - Chat Box 161 - Difference of Art

Most of the time, at least between manhwa and manga. The style difference is pretty distinct. Manhua is harder to identify. The differences are still there, but more subtle.

Between annoying watermarks and bad translations I'll take the watermarks (so long as they don't ruin the manga reading experience by being super big and obnoxious--I've temporarily stopped reading Love So Life because of the waterma...

I finished the poetry portfolio worth 80 per cent of my grade. I'm so glad to be done!

Same as the others. There's no point in buying an ebook version when there are scanlations available. What I want is the hard copy and I'm not spending money on anything but that.
Random Questions "Attempt II"
(2955 posts, 404607 views) Posted: over 12 years ago by book_lover in Chatter Box
This is a site question. I have trouble with using the category part of the genre search. Sometimes it works and sometimes I get 0 results. I've tested this in a few different combinations by checking the category tags on random series I've read and then doing a search...
What do you call your parents?
(175 posts, 18981 views) Posted: over 12 years ago by book_lover in Chatter Box
When I was little I called them mommy and daddy. At a certain point I decided that it was time to stop and consciously trained myself to call them mom and dad, though I kept calling dad "daddy" for longer than I called mom "mommy," I guess because "daddy" didn't seem as ...
I'm looking for a double gender bender

Usotsuki Lily has this some of the time. The boy is almost always dressed as a girl, except for the rare male appearance, and the girl sometimes dresses up as a guy, though not often.
Expressionless, with Sensitive Personality

Because You Smile When I Sing is a very cute one-shot with a mostly silent protagonist whose face always looks angry to other people.

Writing Prompts
(14 posts, 1837 views) Posted: over 12 years ago by book_lover in Chatter Box
Wow! You sure wrote a lot. I noticed that you used quite heightened language.

I could see this condensing into a poem. After all, many poems are about ordinary things looked at deeply. These lines seemed particularly poetic and with potential to me:

"The flower is a m...
Dropped Manga/Manhwa?

Just quickly, the ones listed in the posts above me that I'd love to keep reading are:
A Princess and a Bum
Sarasah<--this one most of all
Sengoku Strays
Nikoniko Nikki
Seigi no Mikata

I don't know for sure that these have been dropped, though I'd assume the posters who mention...
Writing Prompts

I don't have a writing prompt suggestion, but I wanted to tell you about what my creative writing professors always say. A writer should strive to be in a constant open and receptive state, observing and thinking about what they observe. Writing depends on what we obse...
Your Religion
(490 posts, 64839 views) Posted: over 12 years ago by book_lover in Chatter Box
There may be a higher being of some sort. I don't think it can be proved or disproved. At the least, I hope there's something beyond death. That would make me agnostic, I suppose, since agnostic seems to cover the whole range between organized religion and atheism. Mo...
Sterotypical/Racist images in Manga

Oh, I thought of one. That side character rich kid from Austria in Gokusen. He's booksmart but not very bright, very odd appearance and he says and does inappropriate things all the time because he believes everything the kids in his class teach him.

That is why, I started this top...

I saw The Three Muskateers. Great swordplay and hijinks all around. I really enjoyed it. The ending clearly implied a sequel, which I look forward to.
Favorite & Least Favorite Book(s)

Least favorite book...well, at the present moment it's probably Mastiff, also by Tamora Pierce. Not because the book itself is more terrible than any other than I've ever read, but because it's the final book in a series that I've been waiting years for h...

Yeah I was wondering about this too. The translations aren't very well done. And I thought it was weird that they would have watermarks for mangahere (which are even bigger than the one's for their group).

I'm really happy to get updates on series that haven't had any activity for a long time, but it's no good if bad translations ruin the manga. I just can't read their scans. I wish they would take the time to translate properly or find a better translator because otherwi...

Turned my clock back an hour today (spring forward, fall back) and I'm loving the extra hour of sleep. Otherwise I'd be even more of a procrastinator right now than I normally am, by an hour lol. Of course, spring sucks because then I lose an hour of sleep. Yes, spring...

I have facebook, and I'm always surprised when now and then I run into someone without an account. It is potentially hugely addictive and a huge time waster, but though I check it a few times a day, it is just for a few minutes tops, to see if any of my friends have sent...

Suggestions for Animal Clay Project
(4 posts, 395 views) Posted: over 12 years ago by book_lover in Chatter Box
Thanks for reading my post smile I'm looking for inspiration for a particular project in my ceramics class. The assignment requires the clay item I make to be an animal (or representative of an animal, such as antlers) and it also needs to be 3D, not flat, in order to demo...
