Broken Translation
by sdarkpaladin

The translation of japtem degrades severely after volume 3 and vol 4 is barely readable.

Story wise, some might say this is a typical loser turned imba-god pattern. However, the author included a segment in the first volume covering the breaking down and re-building of the protagonist's heart/soul which i find interesting and different from other reincarnated cheat pattern. Although the story turned stale after that and is mostly MC one shotting majority of the enemies I still think that it has the potential to get better.

Will revisit this novel once the translation gets better.

Great Story, But....

The Romance ruins it for me. Don't get me wrong its a well done story with decent tolerable characters.

For me at least, Romance has become the Zombies of character development and story telling in general. It just feels forced as if opposite genders are incapable of being friends or even a platonic relationship, and will undoubtedly fall for each other as time progresses. Also the way the girl show their love is at times down right borderline rape, but generally sexual molestation.

The girls want to ,but the MC doesn't... and when one party isn't consenting it becomes more akin to sexual harassment all the way to rape.

At first I was excited(although I didn't like the insta OP'ness of the MC) at the prospect of a ruthless MC who only cared about surviving and going back home. But then he went back to his gentle old ways while becoming a tsundere of sorts... I have only once ever cared about a gentle protagonist and that was Lee Everett from the Walking Dead.
He was kind but not weak, he was helpful but not eager to help, Understanding but not gullible.

Even so this story is still good and deserves an attempt to be read.

I recommend this if you don't mind the forceful romance that has become the standard in all other stories.

hit or miss

smashing hit 9/10 for people with suppressed desires, unfulfilled lives, chuunibyou syndromes, social awkwardness, stressful daily life or being bullied and do not have the courage or ability to make matters right in real life.

0/10 crap tier for people looking for good writing, consistent stories, hate of gary stu and mary sues, and etc etc.

story varies widely between action filled suspense page turner to self insert harry potter esque fan fiction with OC so the author can live a life he/she is incapable of achieving in real life. Plus stop faffing about with over used harems because it is inherently hard to make non linear heroines when so many are fighting for spot light and it reeks of author's complete inexperience with real relationships and how they and women in general function + fan service for the sake of fan service instead of actual character appeal.

If you must have drama based on romance please stick to the good old and much easier to design properly love triangle so you can flush out both of competitors. Is it possible for so many different women to all fall dramatically in love with a MC in cheap harem fictions due to (and this is always the same quality) the author saying they are kind/blah blah blah/etc instead of actually showing it through actions? Sure. But women that fall in love with MC after days, some say hours, of interaction and do not know the MC at all beyond casual interaction and observation are all shallow and not actual waifu material. Women that judge people they barely know on one quality are shallow because it does not have to be just looks or money since these women all fall in love at almost first sight up to a max of say a month to the degree they are willing to share one man with 5-6 other people time wise?

Therefore due to the horrible inexperience of the writer who fell into the common pitfall of sacrificing character development for harem romantic/sexual fan service all the bitches (and at this point they are all bitches due to being horribly flat one dimensional characters who do not deserve any term higher) most likely all based on anime archtypes, please for the love of all that is good and holy at least change the 500 year old loli from a vampire to like say loli spirit of righteous indignation, loli were turtle, or even loli hobbit with a drinking problem and the super hot, gentle, kind, overused staff chick trope, most beautiful girl in the class who barely knows the MC when he was a massive loser but is madly in love with him anyways to the point of her actions and disbelief in the face of logic (despite the logic not being correct due to deux ex machina saving the MC) sounds very much like a stalker to be honest. If the MC cannot be expected to be a cool bishounen with redeeming qualities before he went godmode to solve his problems why could the love interest NOT be an average looking over weight girl that wears glasses and was also a wallflower who is still gentle and nice and have a hobby in say reading warning labels and product descriptions instead of miss perfect Mary Sue who is hollow and one dimensional on the inside?

OP protagonists are FINE but please be consistent, you CANNOT just say a person's strengthen is thousands/millions of times above the common man but then he uses a gun and shit to fight instead of say breath on some one and turning him into dust? splitting the seas with one kick? flattening MOUNTAINS with a punch, leaping 90 floors instead of being confounded in a dungeon by mechanics? Surely the writer must have realized those RPG stats you see in video games would transform differently if you bring real logic to them? That 5000 str means you lift whales for fun not just to get a bigger number when you swing a sword and that 5000 def/vit/etc means your body is so dense you weight tons instead of just taking 0 damage. Overlord does it realistically when a pure mage with such high levels split trolls in one swing and hug people to death due to high strength instead of max rage hulk some how able to NOT crush spoons when eating? When you write you should not SAY some one is smart or strong or have 9000 stat but rather show it in events and actions and when you do not it creates very annoyingly inconsistent characters.

(As of chap 128) One of the best "another world" novels.

Ive read em all (light novels), and i can say the quality of writing is better than sword art online/haganai/tate no yuusha but not as good as Mushoku Tensei, or Risou no Himo.

The action is the best ive read in any light novel, imagine tengen toppa in light novel form

The harem is well executed, and the MC is a great redeeming factor in a genre full of thick headed idiot MCs (hes about as mature as rudeus from Mushoku Tensei)

Ill update my review as I go along

Wow so yeah I've noticed these past couple of months that the whole "Japanese dude (who may or may not have been a complete loser in his original world) is transported/reincarnated into a fantasy world and get's girl(s)" is becoming the new craze for newbie WN authors in Japan.

The first few I picked up such as Overlord and Mushoku Tensei felt refreshing to me and I enjoyed them for what was then to me a change of pace regarding the MCs, ie. them being strong or downright OP guys who don't take much shit from the bad guys before tearing the fools a new one.

But now I feel the market is over-saturated so to speak, seems like a new WN of this genre pops up every other week as more and more authors are trying to capitalize on the popularity(?) of this current theme. Kinda makes it hard for new readers to pick out the good or decent ones from the huge pile of mediocre copycats.

Actual review: So I finally gave this a shot. Fell asleep two chapters in. It is that boring. Too much unnecessary exposition in the beginning not to mention its all so damn similar of many other intros of this genre. Kinda feels like that safety briefing you're forced to watch on every plane flight. Yawn.

A bunch of negative comments have kept me steering away from this for a while.
After reading to c93, I have no idea what is that all about.
There is nothing fundamentally wrong or broken in it.

Complaints about OP MC or harem not fiting personal preferences are ...
Well I'm lazy, so read bakaleaf's comment for details.

I would say, ignore the naysayers and try before frowning.
If you read and liked Mushoku Tensei, Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari, Konjiki no Moji Tsukai
or something similar, chance is good this may be your cup of tea.

Why the hell is this fanfiction could be so damn popular ?

It seems edgy strong MCs are the hottest thing amongst web novelists on Japan. It's so oveused i dare say that anyone who still thinks "blablabla is a amazing series where MC isn't wimpy weak blablabla" nowadays is just a blatant ignorant kid.

Look, i'm not against strong MCs but this guy over here, Hajime (post-abyss), is a person without any redeeming quality aside from his appearance (obvious Kaneki ripoff is obvious) and his doraemon-tier gears. In fact, his pre-abyss self was much more entertaining (a weak but witty & selfless guy).

I love harem series but dear god, this series has the worst harem ever. Let's get a quick check :
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
- A loli baba vampire. This girl is like a convenient item where anyone who ventures deep enough will get hot loli as side bonus. Yeah i said it, this girl is nothing but a lust item for Hajime.
- Kurousa.. sorry i mean Shia, the busty bunnygirl. She's just your usual damsel-in-distress which would be saved by our kami-sama.
- Maso dragon whose name i couldn't careless about. Her inclusion to the harem is so stupid i wouldn't even bother to explain it.
- Kaori the (of fucking course) hottest girl on his school. She loves Hajime because of his kind nature. Simplistic and dumb i know, but a lot more reasonable than loli vampire and maso dragon.
- Last but not least, Shizuku. She's Kaori bestfriend whose originally supports Kaori's love quest but ultimately fell in love with Hajime too. This is just lame i know, but if anyone should be Hajime's true lover, i would say this girl deserves it. Her interaction with Hajime is amusing and entertaining to watch, unlike other girls.

Now we go to side extras. Ryutaro and Suzu is bland and Kouki is author's pathetic attempt to ridicule popular guys. Other classmates are just pebble in the ground (except for two names i won't mention here).

Villain is nothing but trash-talker.

In the end, this is nothing but author's sad self-insert fanfiction. Anyone who said that this is well-written should bang their head on the wall to fix their brain.

Another cliche story turns to be piece of garbage

Whole novel is just a lame rip-off. And it is even more cliche and shallow than 95% of other "transportation/revival" LN/WN.
I don't want to be unfounded, let's just look at the beginning and what do we have here?

- Bullied otaku MC - check
- jerks in class - check
- most beautiful girl in class/school who is madly in love with our wuss MC (NO WAY!) - check
- transportation and so-called "heroes" - check
- useless MC is still useless in "after-life" - check
- jerks betraying our useless, bullied, ugly MC - check

And so on and soooo on...
But still it was a nice read, really I had goosebumps when i finished 1st volume. And theeen... But before that let's summarize the story. We've got bullied MC and his class teleported to alternate world to be heroes. Everyone is given a cheat but of course - not our MC. He struggles but he is likeable. Random jerks bullying him there and there and our MC is supposed to die after betrayal of who? Yes! You got it right - JERKS! Then our otaku instead of being dead is now stronger than 99% people in this world. Only gods (IIRC) are stronger.
One word - CLICHE. Poorly written and so godamn cliche but for me it is still 8.5/10 as I Finish 1st volume and read half of the 2nd.

And then it just turns into pile of garbage. We have the beggining of so damn loveable harem, which of course is? CLICHE.
- We start of with? - YES! AGAIN, YOU GOT IR RIGHT! - A FRIGGIN LOLI
Buuuut nooo, pedophilia is bad, so let's make our loli to be few hundreds years old but just "trapped" in child's body so court cannot sue us! GREAT IDEA AUTHOR, let's drink some more sake and let's finish 2nd volume fast, before we sober up. Cheers!

^ I really think it looked like that ^.

But you know what is the best? It is seriously interesting. We have a nice set of abilities and battles are dynamic. (we got some bull**** stuff like guns but let's avoid this topic as the whole story is bs)

Then we finish 2nd volume. As I said: it is where survival/revenge type of novel turns into very, VERY cheap shoujou. And yet it is readable and more or less interesting. But guess what, another member of harem is coming - and this is where I lost all my interest:

- 2nd member of our harem is? TUDUM TUDUM TUDUM -> Beautiful, busty, stupid, rabbit girl. Yea, C...- what?. I've read a lot of mangas/animes/novel involving harem so why do I suddenly lost interest in this so-far interesting story? Our adventure novel is turning rapidly into a godamn cheap romcom. We only lack a childhood friend :/ Sadly our MC is otaku and he doesn't have any friends sad
Rabbit girl and her stupidity is so plain and annoying. It just makes me nauseous as I recall 3rd volume.

Next we get another members of our so damn loveable harem:
- S&M Girl
- another loli but without this BS "adult in child's body"
- klutz teacher
- most beautiful girl in class

Let's add to this our jerks-heroes who are so godamn shallow and made just TO BE shallow - their point of existence is simple - just annoy the readers, so they can hate you and love our "glorious main character"

I suggest avoiding this - there are a lot of more interesting novels which are not written by 15 y.o. child going through puberty or bullied, virgin guy in his 30's who made Arifureta just to fulfill his perverted dreams.

3/10
Sorry for mistakes. My english is as bad as this author's writing skills bigrazz

Good start, first 3-7 chapters huge potential but sadly from there on it's a HUGE downfall personally for me and from what i heard from other readers it does not get any better infact it goes even more into the deep pit hole

MC is seriously a piss off, i find it very hard to sympathies with him and all the rest are just your typical fill in character who have been 200% shonen cliched with their over the top Villain(ess)

Don't bother reading this Cr*p

This really did feel like it was going somewhere.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
A tragic story about a weak MC becoming OP and getting revenge while developing a small harem.
But he became a Mary Sue, the though processes of the characters became way to convenient (i.e.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
him killing a student in front of his teacher so his teacher does not feel guilt but the teacher somehow realizes this thought process
which was the exact point that I dropped this story). I wouldn't recommend reading this unless you are into the deviant art class story telling. If you want a familiar story, there is something called Suterurareta Yuusha no Eiyuutan which has the same ideas of a weak hero becoming strong, revenge, and harem building which so far (Volume 3) has been decent enough to keep my interest. It is better than what happened to this novel.
