Was wondering if anyone had some recommendations for me. I am currently reading The Cain Saga. I'd really love to try other series similar to it. If it takes place in the Victorian Era (or earlier) that would be great. I also like gothic/horror overtones, but it doesn't have to have those. It could also be a straightforward romance set in the past.
Any suggestions?

D.Gray-man (Gothic style through and through)
Hana to Akuma
A different period setting but a similar atmosphere:
Gosick
Sort of fits:
Yoru no Kakaku
Crimson Shell
Ningyou Kyuutei Gakudan (it's described as having a Medieval setting but it really looks more like weird anachronistic Victorian)

Third Kuroshitsuji - Excellent horror (make sure to read until the later volumes)
Ningyou Kyuutei Gakudan - About a mysterious travelling orchestra. Reminded me of the Cain Saga.
Ludwig Kakumei - About a female corpse collector looking for the fairest maiden of them all. A dark take on grimm's fairy tales.

Dokuhime - similar time period, alternate world. Pretty disturbing. It's about orphaned girls that are fed poison to the point where they become poisonous, and then sold off to influential people as concubines. Might be too graphic.

Well it depends. I *might* be looking for exactly this. It can have graphic sex/violence if it's relevant to the plot. If it leans a lot in the direction of hentai and nothing else then...perhaps not.
I definitely look for mature themes in the manga I read. Preferably older heroes/heroines if possible.

A lot of the sexual stuff is implied or drawn in a way that is not pornographic.
