Looking for romances that pair up people on opposite ends of the social spectrum, e.g. a sporty, popular jock with a frail, unpopular nerd - or a violent delinquent with an extremely well-behaved honor student. Other examples would include a successful, workaholic businessperson with a laidback, lazy street performer... Or a free-spirited artist with a rigid, regimented office drone.

Cases of "opposites attract," basically! Opposites not only in temperament but in their social standing or public perception. They should be opposites on the outside and on the inside - in every conceivable way.

Oh, and the things they are "opposite" in should be things that they can control or choose, not things that are out of their control - for example, it would NOT be valid to pair up the rich heir of a powerful family with someone who was born a pauper, because they can't help their social positions in that way. I'm talking about social standing in terms of a person's innate character and personal actions - basically, in terms of things that they can determine for themselves, rather than things that they were given from the outside. (For example, a delinquent can choose to be violent, and therefore acquires a public perception based on that, whereas an honor student can choose to study like a maniac, thereby acquiring a different social perception.)

Any genre EXCEPT shounen, ecchi and hentai is okay. I'm looking primarily for shoujo, josei, seinen, yaoi and yuri stories.

Thanks in advance for your help!

You could check out the opposites attract category.

I think Koukou Debut is kinda like that.

I DID NOT KNOW THERE WAS SUCH A CATEGORY - CONSIDER MY DAY MADE.

biggrin biggrin biggrin

*browses happily*

Gotta say, I love the new category system... I also like how it's somehow biased towards BL! Lol... Has anyone else noticed this? Or are yaoi fangirls just more assiduous members of B-U who do more of the tagging?

I Want to be Naughty qualifies, as well. (Just to keep things on-topic. Lol.)

Hotaru no Hikari would qualify I guess...
Maybe Yandere Kanojo and/or Onidere is what you're looking for.
(In both you got a delinquent girl x honor student pairing kinda - Yandere Kanojo is 4-koma though at times)

I dropped it at 4 volumes, but I'm pretty sure Let Dai fits. Bet you've already read that one, though.
I haven't read any of them, but maybe Akuma no Ororon, Mars and Kuruizaki no Hana also qualify. The last one is kind of a stretch, though.

Aegis sort of fits. However, it is anything but a love-story (which is why I read it ^^).

Also, A Night of a Thousand Dreams, I guess. But, yet again, I'm sure you've read it.

I wonder; why do I keep recommending manga I haven't read? Must be because I've read the series synopsis of half the manga on MU, but can never seem to find one that I actually like. Out of the many hundreds of series I've tried out, only in about 1 percent do I ever go beyond reading the description on this site. laugh

Oh- and I think you forgot to mention From Eroica with Love as an example - going by what you said in you 'snarky romance' post, it fits perfectly, right? *Once again, mouthing off about a manga she hasn't read* I wonder why I seem to know more about the series I don't read, as opposed to ones I do? But that may only be so because of your hilariously interesting commentary!

Shoujo:
Perfect Girl Evolution
Beast Master
Beauty Pop
Otomen
Fruits Basket
Mucha Kucha Daisuki

Josei:
Shuukatsu!! - Kimi ni Naitei
Midnight Secretary

Yaoi:
I Want To Be Naughty is a the start of a whole series of similar stories.
(I prefer Kirai ja naikedo.)
Can't think of others right now.

I think Koko ni Iru Yo! fits pretty well, because it's about an "invisible" girl and two extremely handome/popular guys. I really like the blogging aspect of it; I rarely see the internet used as a plot device. So that made it feel very fresh to me.. it's kind of like Kimi ni Todoke with the outsider and Mr Personality.
