Hello there, as the title suggests, I am looking for a historical romance manga based in any ancient country (Ancient China, Egypt, Italy, Assyria...)

So no victorian times or middle ages, just pure ancient. Also; action is always welcome with me.

I've read:

  • Legend of Nereid

  • Ouke no Monshou

  • Red River

  • Saver
A few more, but I forgot the names x)

    😛

Maybe you could give Akatsuki no Yona a try.

I love historical romance manga, and not just the ancient historical ones, so here are a few ancient historical romance manga:

Saiunkoku Monogatari (Ancient China kinda b/c it's fantasy, Complete)

Peony Pavilion (Ancient China, Complete)

Divine Melody (Ancient China, warning I read this when I was much younger and prbly wouldn't like it as much as I did then, Complete)

Tenma no Ketsuzoku (Ancient China/Mongolia kinda b/c it's fantasy, Ongoing)

Crystal Dragon (Ancient Ireland/small stop in Norse region/another in France/Rome, Fantasy, Ongoing scans, but Complete, also not sure where the romance really is yet)

Alfheim no Kishi (Ancient Celtic stuff b/c fantasy, Ongoing scans, but Complete)

From A Distant Time
Time Stranger Kyoko
Dream Saga
Bride Of The Water God
Saver
Ryo
Golden Days
The Vision of Escaflowne
Inuyasha
Yukarism

i second Otoyomegatari , Joou No Hana, and Shinigamihime no Saikon

In a way Magi - The Labyrinth of Magic, has ancient history influences over it's major fantasy genre, though not that much romance since it's a shonen manga. It gets the ancient history influence from the nations in the Magi universe, since they allude to ancient empires, like for example the Roman empire, Chinese empire and so on.

I love historical manga too but most I've read and really liked defy your request no middle age/Victorian backgrounds

But there's one on my faves list:
Xue Lian - historical, supernatural, romance, action(sort of). Beautiful, fine art.

It's ongoing and the releases come out slowly, but it's definitely worth it because it's amazing. 🙂

I recommend Song of the Long March. It's pretty good.
