Just hang on until the second half...

Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle is a more well known manga, and it didnít take me long to hear about it as I began looking into manga and reading it. However (as of writing this review) I have never read any other manga by CLAMP (none other really interested meÖ) so I skirted away from Tsubasa, not really wanting to read it and thinking that I wouldnít understand it since it was supposedly an alternate story or a side story for most of CLAMPís other works. Iím not quite sure why I finally decided to read Tsubasa, but I did decide to and read it all the way through, and Iím very glad I did for I really enjoyed the story!

Plot- Unfortunately I read and saw (not on purpose really) many spoilers for the series (thankfully I understood hardly any of the spoilers and while reading didnít understand how the spoilers could happen, and while reading the spoilers didnít really care about the story or its spoilers so I didnít pay the spoilers to much heed) and while reading/seeing those spoilers lowered my enjoyment of the series a bit I still really enjoyed the story a lot. The beginning was a bit lacking, we are quickly thrown into the story without really knowing the characters, and we jump right into jumping from world to world. We are then presented a formulaic plot, going to a world, finding where the feather is, getting the feather, the only differences in each world is the adversaries keeping them from getting the feather. Some worlds were more enjoyable than others but after a while this plot began to wear thin and I wanted something a bit more exciting. So for me the plot only got really good around chapter 107 and then it got really good, and much more exciting as we left the formula plot line we had been holding to before. Be warned, the plot is very complicated, you will need to think while reading some chapters and you will have to remember things in order to understand some of the events that happen later. Sometimes I did get a bit confused by the plot but I eventually straightened everything out in my mind, all in all I can say I enjoyed the plot of the story (especially chapter 107 to the end).

Characters- Each character was very unique and different, a diverse cast throughout all the worlds. There is quite a large cast of characters, but I didnít find it to hard to remember who was who. We are thrown into the story straight away and donít really know the main characters that well but we soon come to know and care about them. Its great to see the main cast change and grow over the course of the series, watching them face up to their fears and realize their wishes. They all grew and changed over the series, and the character growth was done very nicely and realistically.

Art- The art is nice, everything it quite detailed and the characters designs are varied making it pretty easy to differentiate the characters
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Except for then we had more than one clone in the sceneÖ then it got a bit hard
, the clothing, buildings and people were all very nicely detailed and different in each world traveled to and it really helped add to the story. However sometimes during the action sequences (especially when there was a lot of magic being used) the pages could get a bit too full and it was a bit hard to tell what was going on, but it wasnít too bad.

Other- I can understand why some people wonít like this story, the plot does get complicated and difficult to understand, the beginning of the story is a bit lacking and can be bland and even boring, and the strange twists of the story some people may not like. I can understand why some people donít like the story, but for me I really enjoyed the story and I do recommend it. Now at the time I read Tsubasa I had never read anything else by CLAMP, but that didnít detract from me understanding the plot of Tsubasa any less, and not reading anything else by CLAMP didnít detract from my enjoyment of Tsubasa either. Sure people who have read other things from CLAMP might be able to notice ties and relations to other series (I even noticed some without reading anything else by CLAMP) but you really donít have to have read any other thing from CLAMP in order to understand and enjoy Tsubasa. To sum it up I do very much recommend Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, just make sure you hang on through the first half of the story until you get to the really good parts of the second half.

Tsubasa was my introduction to good manga, so I might be biased, but when I try to look at it from an objective view, I still love it. It's a great manga with great drawings, an amazing plot, and almost god-like execution. It provides a good base for why everything happens; the spark that begins the story is rooted in romance and gives a little romance through out the story while still not overdoing it (like so many manga's do) and still contains lots of action and adventure. Tsubasa is a wonderfully balanced manga that never grows boring or repetitive, and is a magnificent work of art.

Tsubasa Chronicle has been my favorite anime since I first saw it in 2005. Fai and Kuro-puu were a big part of this, and later on I decided to read the manga when I figured the anime would likely not ever finish the story.

I somewhat suspected already
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Syaoran might have a clone
in the first season since I caught the hints in the anime. Though
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Sakura being a clone
was what surprised me more.

I really loved the added drunk scene in Outo, which I was sad never appeared in the anime since that would've been fun to see. ^^

Ahem, anyway, some of the twists thrown into the latter part of the story could have been a bit more gradual than they were. They eventually threw in so much, you didn't necessarily understand all the information thrown at you since it came so fast.

To sum it up, I really enjoyed this manga. So far this is the only work of CLAMP I have thoroughly enjoyed over and over. I'd give it a higher rating, but there was a lot of confusion further into the story that just made it difficult for me to follow along with all the history and family lineage.

I really hate to give this an 8 but the ending did not satisfy me. I read this all in 2 days because i couldn't tear myself away from it. Went to bed late woke up early just to continue reading. Loved every minute of it. I laughed, i cried, and made me smile alot at all the gushy stuff (even between Fye and Kuro-tan XD). BUT then as it started to end i felt that something was missing. Then it ended and i realize what the hell it was that was missing...

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Who the hell was Syaoran?!?!
If you've read this you will come to understand that this guy has no parents at all. Yea i get the part about his clone and Sakura's clone giving birth to him. But that was something that shouldn't have happened. So he had to have real parents somewhere becuase at the end the clones DID NOT EXIST!!
*pulls hair out*
And then him and Sakura share the same name and they were always distined to be together. It all doesn't make sense. There are a bunch of stuff that isn't adding up. The difficult stuff i get but the simple things...wth?!?! (lol kept saying this over and over as it was ending)
*cries*
I really want to know who he was before all this stuff happened.
And it's kinda gay that the clones lived to have better lives then the orignal Syaoran and Sakura

i agree with you "ljkabookie", It had a nice story but the epilogue kinda mess up the ending, but at least they answered sakura real name which i was wondering. But oh well, it always good to know that an adventure would never go to an end, and more excitement advanture lye ahead of them. So i give it a 9.5

i can only give this an 9, id like to give it a 10 cause it was fantastic but towards the end they took it a bit far with the whole repeating, time dimension and clone stuff. also although it was a good ending, i still didnt quite like it, if i hadnt of read the epilogue then id of given it a 10, cause the ending would of been just right.

Really nice mange and if you read it in one go the story makes a lot more sense, to the extend you can understand CLAMP stories.
But the big problem in this manga is after all the clones, clones of clones, time and dimension travelling bending the laws of logic... it was absolutely unimportant what happened.
Somebody died, no problem just alter the whole universe, everything that happened lost it's meaning. Because there wasn't anything certain and CLAMP could literally do whatever they want with the characters, the universe... basically everything, without any consideration of coherence.
But it is a nice CLAMP manga with interesting characters and an satisfying ending (very rare for CLAMP)

I haven't finished the series yet so my opinion may change.

Thus far, however, this has been the best manga I have ever read. I love all the characters; even the bad guys because they have believable, human characterization. The story is very touching and quite sad, but at the same time constant humor is found. All the fantasy elements are intriguing and creative.
To top that all off: the art is just AMAZING.

I just love love love it.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Well, things were VERY interesting when we found out that the Syaoran who's been traveling with his friends was a clone ALL THIS TIME... After the clone Syaoran leaves, the real one's traveling with them. To make matters worse, I don't know if it's right, but the Sakura traveling with them was a frickin' clone too. Okay...so what happened to the REAL Sakura this time ??? Then it starts to get really confusing because it's not about the feathers anymore. It's more ONE BIG DIFFERENT ARC with awesome actions on their adventures but...they still get the feather reward at the end of the arc... Eh.

Honestly, I was expecting more from the ending. The revelations weren't exactly earth-shattering as they were expecting it to be. They were just too damn confusing.

Pros: Good enough read, not too long (don't let the number 28 fool you, most chapters are merely 19 pages or so), gets a bit more interesting and deeper after the halfway mark (i.e. it isn't just your average ooh-lets-go-collect-feathers manga), the way some things done in xxxHolic have consequences here, art, Kurogane and Fay bigrazz

Cons: Just when it gets interesting and deeper, it also gets confusing. The problem with CLAMP is that they have forethought their story and dropped lines left and right (but people like me just didn't get it) and threw in some time-travelling mumbo-jumbo which did explain stuff but still...

That's just what it becomes by the end of it, good enough.
