For me the only masterpiece manga (10/10) is Gunslinger Girl. In every category.
And Ichigo 100% a masterpiece? Nice troll.

Probably. Tragedy or drama (but it's also slice of life and sci-fi to me, I mean some manga are hard to categorize). I'd have gone for "alternative history" but I suppose that's not really a category.

Sket Dance for best gag with semi-realistic events and some emotional stuff
Gokusen for the BEST student-teacher relationship manga. I can't think of another one that explored the character's personalities so well.
One Piece this is just epic...nothing else I can use to describe it.

i read like 300 titles, primary seinen, and i can give 10/10 only for Berserk. there are many good and interesting manga, but only one masterpiece.
i dont feel like separate them in genres, like "oh its the best comedy manga that i read, so i give it 10/10, only because there are no better".

Comedy: Gintama - can't believe wasn't mentioned yet,not only it's an ABSOLUTE masterpiece of gag, it also has lots of really good, serious action.
Arakawa Under the Bridge - not a masterpiece, but also really funny, characters are very interesting and unique.
Seinen: I second Monster - one of the best plots out there. And of course Berserk and Shin Angyo Onshi, Basilisk. Vagabond as well but it's on hiatus omg I have a lot more seinen that for me are 10/10 but I'm stopping now.
As for shoujo/romance: hmm... Angel Sanctuary
Shounen: Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro and Flame of Recca

seconding gunslinger girl, pandora hearts, gokusen, one piece and orange marmalade!
+ shocked that no one's mentioned GTO for comedy. though people say that it's not very realistic (which is true), but most of the morals it expresses are true. the character development is amazing and tbh i think the not-really-realistic immortality of onizuka is jokes.

GTO is just like a mix of everything. Epicness.
Action - Rurouni Kenshin & Yu Yu Hakusho
Adventure - Basara

Second Onani Master Kurosawa, addingEmma, Complex, and Future Lovers for romance.
Total -1 to Ichigo 100% and To Love Ru. In my opinion they're trash, not even the best in their genre. Hey...maybe a lolicon category? I nominate Kojika.

I Second (third) Hoshi no Samidare for action masterpiece
as well as Recommend Emma by Mori Kaoru as the pinnacle of either the Slice-of-Life or Romance(Seinen) genre.
What can be said about Emma?... It is 'bliss' at its simplest sense. To start things off, the mangaka is a master at creating characters, each and every character in the series has a unique and enticing character; none of this "insert nameless filler character here" that is seen way too often these days. Second up is the story. The world of Emma revolves around the love story of Emma, a common house-maid and William Jones, a son of one of an up-and-coming "new blood" merchant family in Victorian Era England. The emotions that a reader feels as the two face the trials and tribulations needed for them to be together are communicated beautifully and heart-wrenchingly; never feeling forced or fake. Lastly is the Art, Holy Mary mother of Jesus, the art. As the series progresses we see Mori-sensei's amazing artistic talent come out. The stretching landscapes, the intricate scene decoration, the amazing detail and intricacy... There's a reason it has the "Scenery Porn" Trope
I find myself trying to force out words that can convey the the beauty and brilliance of Emma, but I utterly fail. Reading the series is the only way to truly grasp how amazing this series is.

hellsayer,
I couldn't find ichi the killer on MU so check the spelling o.0? Neither could i find the novel . . . hahaha
Also for aishiteruze baby, would you vouch for it as a master piece or a very cute work that nears the master piece level?

Totally agree with nominations for Gokusen, Parasyte, Emma, Glass Mask...
I actually wanted to post a nomination for Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro, but I see someone has beat me to it! A seriously amazing series--one I had actually dropped at volume 2 or so, and gone back to read on a day I was bored. So glad I did!!!
Also, TRMShadow, I know what you mean by the beauty of Emma! My favorite scene is when Emma looks up at the full moon and remembers the time she saw the full moon in the glass house.
