Zetman is an interesting take on 'dark male lead' in that you see a lot of the events that shape him into his darker, older self. He's never 'dark' in the sense that he's 'evil'; it's more like he has a Batman vibe... which given the author, that was probably the goal.

Shamo is the epitomy of 'dark male lead', however, it might be too heavy for your tastes.

Same thing for Wolf Guy - Ookami no Monshou, but as a reader, you're at least sympathetic to his circumstance.

I'll stick to shounen, shoujo since you mentioned you don't like seinen (though i highly recommend reading seinen since there are many with dark characters).

Based on the Scuro / Monokuro Kiten suggestion:

Kuroshitsuji - Gothic story with very macabre and morally questionabe male lead. Story has a dark ambiance later on.
Yumekui Kenbun - About a child who eats nightmares.
Ludwig Kakumei - Entire story has a gothic feel to it. Main character is pretty twisted. I think he collects corpses? Story has a dark ambiance.
Number - Like scuro its all about assassins. I didn't read much of it though.
Nabari no Oh - If you're ok with shounen ai, Yoite has a dark tortured vibe.
Ningyou Kyuutei Gakudan - About a quartet with the power to subdue zombies. The group had a mysterious vibe.
Pet Shop of Horrors - main character is mysterious. He sells people animals that exploit their weaknesses and end up killing them.

For psychologically dark characters (ex: Light in Death Note):
Monster - Antagonist is charismatic sociopath.
Mirai Nikki - Supporting character is super smart, but also crazy. She's a girl though.
Togari - mass murderer is taken out of hell to redeem himself.

I'd also recommend Kuroshitsuji
Also
Pandora Hearts - has a lot of twists and turns
D. Gray-man- Exorcism-ish action but dark
07 ghost - a bit of shounen Ai, but there's this dark side where in One of god's angels killed his daughter etc...
Zombie Loan - kinda like Scuro = undead themes
Sougiya Riddle
Vampire Knight

Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro (I think he's a bit darker in the anime though... but I've only read the first 3 chapters so maybe that changes...)

Heart no Kuni no Alice

Angel Sanctuary

These are the first I can come up with... sorry if you've already read them or if they're not dark enough... ^^

Edit: I remembered another one: Ludwig Kakumei.
