So yeah, just as the title said. I'm looking for shounen or seinen with likeable female characters. I hate tsunderes and yanderes, I hate weak shits that pretend to be strong, I hate crybabies, I hate weak, fragile girls, I hate girls that get themselves into trouble and have to have the hero rescue them, and especially, ones that hit the male lead for no reason (Sakura). And yeah, I'd prefer it if the protagonist isn't a wimp, a loser or a socially awkward dude.
I loved One Piece's females, Fullmetal Alchemist's women were awesome, Kyou kara Ore wa!!'s. Binbougami ga!'s too.
I detested Bleach's, Berserk's, Defense Devil's, Naruto's bitches.
Thanks.

Girls of The Wild's - they guy starts physically weak, but gets stronger later on, some of the girls improve over time in terms of likability

Ratman - fits mostly, though the guy had to save one of the girls at some point

Suashi no Meteorite - both leads are likable, they don't hit each other, the guy has to protect the girl; it's a really good series

Otoyomegatari

Dark Air - the guy looks like a wimp, but don't let his looks fool you (especially when he is cross-dressing), the female lead has a high level in badassery, but still stays quite likable

Kiba no Tabishounin - The Arms Peddler - the female lead has a high level in badassery, though you have to decide for yourself if she is likable or not (she is not as cold as she makes herself appear)

She's Gon - shows some promise

Classmate, Kamimura Yuuka wa Kou Itta.

Enchanter

You could also try:
Fujimura-kun Mates
Koi Neko
Witchcraft Works
Kandachime
Hoshi no Samidare

These are some seinen that I like the female characters:
Black Lagoon: the female is badass, and the male, though physically weaker, is not a wimp. At least he has character development.
Hoshi no Samidare
Until Death Do Us Part: yeah, at first the male has to protect her, but throughout the series, she grows strong, at some point even the he treats her as partner.

Shounen:
Claymore: the female warriors are awesome
Magi
Superior and the sequel
Tenshi na Konamaiki

Hope you like them too smile

Sometimes I feel the same way. It's hard to find likable, strong female characters in shounen/seinen (*cough* also fantasy...though if you ever want to try novels, read The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. It's amazing--funny, lots of action, sprinkle in some mystery, colorful cast--and contains a ton of interesting/strong female characters...)

Some of my suggestions:
Tower of God - may seem that way at the beginning, but the author loves to play tricks laugh . Introduces many likable female characters who can easily take care of themselves.
Shingeki no Kyojin - It's a brutal world. Weak, fragile girls who seem to get themselves into trouble tend to not survive.
Claymore though the guy protagonist is kind of wimpy... (seconded)
xxxHolic - guy also slightly on the wimpy side but Yuko is a great character~
I also second Black Lagoon!

Beelzebub's females kick ass.
I'll also support Hoshi no Samidare, Claymore and xxxHolic.
If you like the feel of xxxHolic you should most definitely try Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles (though it's quite different when it comes to pacing and genre).

Another vote over here for Hoshi no Samidare and Beelzebub. The females are not your typical "OMG I can't take care of myself, SAVE ME *squeaaal*" girl.

What I have to offer are:
1/2 Prince - one of the most awesome manhuas EVAR. biggrin . If you don't mind gender bender, the girl plays a male elf in a virtual reality game in the far future. She's very likeable and the manhua itself is hilarious.

Sengoku Youko also has really likable female characters. Although they might not be strong physically, with the exception of a few, they're really strong mentally. It's made by the same mangaka as Hoshi no Samidare.

Gokusen is also another really funny manga that has a really likable female main character. Despite being Josei, it has a more shounen feel than josei. Daughter of the leader of a yakuza gang, but she's a bit dense sometimes.

Franken Fran - A seinen manga with an extremely likable female main, if you don't mind the gore. It has some really pitch black humor, but it's a really good manga.

Meteor Methuselah has a really good story, and though the girl can get on your nerves and does get saved quite a bit, she has her own strengths. It's not really a fit, but you can try it out just for the emotions portrayed within the manga.

Seirei no Moribito is an anime that I recommend wholeheartedly and has a likable female lead, a really capable fighter who's actually smart. You MUST check this one out! The character growth within the anime is phenomenal and even makes up for the deus ex machina at the end of the anime.

And while we're on the subject of anime, try Juuni Kokki. The novels are great, as is the anime. The first and third story arcs are the ones that show female leads, with the main focus on Youko, who starts out as weak and wimpy, but quickly changes into a strong woman capable of leading an entire kingdom. It's my absolute favorite anime of all time. If you don't want to watch, you could read the novels instead.

Perhaps you might like Tista also, what with the main character (female) being an assassin for the church. The obvious moral theme of the manga might get on your nerves, but all in all it's a very interesting manga.

Vampire Juujikai is another manga that has likable female leads who can take care of themselves. There are a few mental breakdowns, but the majority are likable.

Hope this helped smile

Likeable female characters can be hard to find. I also am beginning to detest Naruto females. Bleach, always.

I second Black Lagoon and Surperior.

Black Lagoon is extrememly actiony and to my memory it's not very "Dark", but there's a lot of blood. The main female is likable in my opinion, but she IS rude and is like "The BIG GUY" in a five person group. eyes

Surperior....well, she's pretty likable. She can have a good head on her shoulders, but sometimes there's extreme badass decay with the romantic elements. However, she's pretty much unmatched in terms of raw power.

I'm not sure about the others. Let me see what I can recommend....

Arachnid Really all the females are pretty likable (minus the antagonists...especially the lastest one), but by chapter 18 It depends on the reader. The plot goes into typical Shounen "evil student council mode" among other cliches. It's a tad refreshing, but there is needless scenes that I think are just plugged in for fan service.

9 Banme no Musashi Chick's lethal. Ah, sorry this is listed as shoujo, but I think it'll make a good read anyhow. There is romance, but many have claimed they prefer the missions to anything else. I don't think there's much blood.

Slayers~ Lina Inverse and many others. I suggest the anime moreso than the manga because I'm not familiar with it. It seems that the novels are possibly the better medium, but I haven't been able to read or get my hands on any.

Soul Eater Girls are all top notch in my opinion. I'm more familiar with the anime.

[m]Yanki-kun to Megane-chan [/m] I read its earlier chapters, but it turned into a real gag manga. Not that it's bad, but it's heavily focused on comedy. I know the main girl is no push over. Regarding the rest of the females...I'm not too sure.

ES Milage may vary, but she's intelligent and puts it to use. I actually had this recommended to me, but I've been too busy to get deep into it.

Zippy Zippy is good and the female character doesn't make me want to strangle her. The guy deserves everything he gets.

13 is a one shot and it's a mixture of love and action, but the girl is no push over and it's really funny in my opinion. The author seems to have a talent for creating semi-likable females.

Carried by the wind: Tsukikage Rari. Again, the anime more than the manga.

Change 123 in the sense that the female lead is strong. She has more than one personality though....

HayatexBlade. Only read the chap 20-something. It's ALL females though.

Yu Yu Hakusho has good females in the MANGA. The anime makes them all wusses. It's mainly men and the guy's love interest can old her own, but she's a badass normal (and not the sterotypical tsundere) and also despite her super feats at strength isn't too much a fighter, but she seems to hold her own by the middle. The rest of the main girls hold thier own as well (again not much fighters), minus the incredibly cute one. There isn't much damsel in distress going on. It's a 90s manga, but it's decent. Genkai is a very good example despite her being an old lady. Also, if one looks only at the surface of words and expressions they will be disapointed.

Sorry I defend classics alot.

Ichi is a pretty good example.

LOCK ON. From what I've read I can't call her tsundere as in she just has a natural reflex toward perviness. She does get rescued, but she has a strong personality.

I can't think of anymore at the moment, but I know this is not all I can bring to the table. Tell me what you think about these.

I totally second Gokusen. Yankumi was very likable. Even though it's a josei series, you might want to give it a try.

Same here, I second Gokusen, Beelzebub and Yanki-kun to Megane-chan. Aside from those, the female characters of the following ones have been quite likeable in my eyes ... ^^"

* Samurai Champloo - Fuu may not be strong, but definitely kind of rocks.
* Gangsta. - Quite likeable, since there's at least a reason for her to be weak by times.
* BB Project - There have been moments the girls have been more likeable as the main guy.
* Shi ga Futari o Wakatsu Made - The female main is still a kid, but acts rather mature and calm.
* Blood+

For shounen I'll also suggest Nurarihyon no Mago.

There's one useless female (Kana), but she's not that important to the plot, so it's OK. (In the first few chapters, it makes it seem like she'll be an important character, but she's not.) All the other females in the series are good, however. (One of the major villains is also female.)
