I cried while reading chapter 130 and so on cause I really felt so bad for Shiraishi. The new witches stories aren't as entertaining as the old ones. Might have to put this one in on-hold list.

PS. Please add "harem" to the genre description. If I'd known, I wouldn't have picked this up.

Getting Interesting

While I agree that it should have ended after the First Witch War, the story became stale after it. But after reading all the chapters today, I suppose the story is picking up speed with the male witches and the mystery behind Yamada's missing memories of his first year in school.

This didn´t use to be ecchi / harem crap but now it is

The series had a fine first arc about the said witches and reached a clear ending point which is surprising as the authors previous work was lame. Then the manga went on cuZ of money and committed suicide to become a ecchi harem shell of it´s former self. The new anime should go for that ending point and i could thus recommend that version. You know now when to stop or if you should even start.
I went on for a few more volumes after the original arc but only sleep inducing nudity, sexual harassment and an unmoving romance subplot showed up BUT no humor, narrative or purpose were to be found so i dropped it about a year ago and will only read the last chapter of which i expect nothing. Flying Witch (8/10) / Ran to Haiiro no Sekai (8,5/10) are good modern manga about witches and the classic Angel Densetsu (10/10) is a perfect high-school comedy. Sayonara Zetsubou-Sensei (9/10) is lastly the final word on harem.

Seems to me like the mangaka is beating a dead horse. I liked the series but now it is uneventful and boring... Should have ended when Yamada and Shiraishi got together imo.

On volume 11
It gives you the same vibe as Yanki-kun to Megane-chan. Like Yanki-Kun the main protagonist is a male, and everything revolves around him. The female (Shiraishi) potential love, at first, plays a big part and then just sits in the peripheries. This is pretty much, like Yanki-Kun. Is it romance? If it is, it does not do a good job of it. Romance is just a sidenote and it really does not develop it unless you call random kissing of people and blushing a romance development. You can tell he fancies her in the first few chapters and, you think she does but she is so impassive and dispassionate its hard to tell; after you a few chapters Yamada-Kun goes on about his antics with other more pronounced characters with Shiraishi in the background. This pretty much also sums up Yanki-Kun. Even the damn characters between the two mangas are very similar, both in looks and behaviours. The author is just repeating the same formula and like Yanki-Kun, it seems it is heading nowhere. Should have ended at volume 11.

The art is good but you cannot tell the characters apart. All the male faces look too similar, and you can only tell them apart due to hair colour or accessory like a toothpick. Females, at least have huge varying styles of hair. A few females (including Shiraishi) do resemble Lucy Heartfilla which is a plus. Like the show, "I love Lucy".

There are two translations out there. "Mangaholic-MahouX" up to volume 7 and the official CrunchyRoll which is doing the whole series. Personally I found "Mangaholic-MahouX" has a much more fluid and funnier translation. It also has more profanity which just works better and certain instances makes the comedy funnier. The switch from MM to CR is not much of a leap.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The powers are curses that fall randomly onto dejected students. So these powers takes their dejection and amplify them. It is not hard to imagine that these powers have caused several suicides in the past and I do believe that was the ultimate goal of the powers; to cull the student population.

Shiraishi has been a monotone character until the point she just starts crying out of nowhere. That just didn't sit well with her character at all. She was a doll that allowed others to (ab)use her body without a single care.

A bit like Ranma 1/2.

This is a pretty great rom-com. The kissing scenes could have been handled distastefully by a lesser author, but this one is completely up to the task. (One of my highlights: while experimenting on Yamada's power, he's told "keep your lips moist" because he'll have to kiss so much...)

And while the story is harem-based, that part is done well, too. Reminds me of Ranma 1/2, in a good way.

All that said, the story took a weird turn after roughly chapter 66, and the tone shifted quite a bit. It's still good, but it's been dragging quite a bit and I really miss the constant body-switching shenanigans =(.

imo, the series would've left me happy if it ended after

Yamada and Shiraishi got together
b/c honestly, all the chapters afterwards feel dull, episodic. Kind of as if the mangaka doesn't know where the story should go next but wants to drag out the series as long as possible. Sure, there are still unanswered questions left, but I feel that even the mangaka doesn't know the answers yet, seeing how the current chapters seem disorganized and doesn't flow as well as the earlier chapters.

I used to rate this series an 8 and thought this was a pretty good shounen with the ecchi/harem done in good tastes. Now, I can't say the same.

Shonen High School

@Draco....well its about witch powers in high school students, and the main characters are still in their 2nd year, so I am thinking that it'll continue until they graduate from the high school and solve the mystery as to how and why those powers came to be.

The series was really, really entertaining and the story and plot were, admittedly, predictable at times, but good. It was certainly fresh in terms of premise.

That being said. I'm not sure why this series isn't over already. I'm not sure what's left? Every new chapter I can't help but think to myself, "Why is there still more?"

I worry that at the time of writing, (ch94) this series might overstay it's welcome a bit. That being said, I'll give whatever its next a shot before I stop reading it. It was definitely good enough to give it that much.
