Description
Rain Jewlitt, known as the Methuselah, is a spaced-out, immortal, 624-year-old man dressed in priest's clothes. He's got eternal youth and a large price on his head—put there by those questing after the secret of his immortality.
Machika Balfaltin is a tomboyish, energetic 14-year-old girl who, upon the death of her grandfather, sets out to kill Methuselah, the one bounty her assassin grandfather, Zol the Grim Reaper, couldn't kill. Instead, however, Machika ends up being saved by Rain again and again from other aspiring bounty hunters attacking them both.

I realy like this manga.
I don't realy get the plot though... Is he looking for that angel reancarnation?
But the events are interesting after a while.
The art is very good, clean and pretty(Rain is such an eye candy^^ can't stop looking at him... I get stuck on pages because I want to look at him more) *cough* besides this the other chars are also good.
And realy love the romance that is between them, very cute and not to much^^ better than many other shoujo manga.

The overall emotions this manga are uplifting, even though you know it is coming your way. It isn't pretentious, and for much of the time, feels light despite many of its themes being rather heavy. A very enjoyable read. Some people may find the characters to be too "type cast", but in this story, they work. There is drama, but not melodrama. I thought it was predictable, but the emotions I felt reading it, were suprising and genuine.

I love this series and its characters, but goddammit the first few volumes are pretty average shoujo fare.(though admittedly it has more action than the average shoujo) It isn't till volume 4 or 5 when the antagonist shows up that the series gets amazing.

Okay... I wanted to enjoy the interaction between a silly, loving male lead and a boyish (literally in appearance) female lead, but the love was too fast, too simple, and unfathomable. The mangaka tries to show how incredible their love is through perspective of the other characters. she shows how amazed they are or even how jealous they are, but every time I'm left asking, huh? I don't feel it. I don't get it.
It's not all bad. Some of the characters are have depth. I am displeased with the female lead and the way the story is told but there are cute moments here and there, with subtle details that help readers get to know the characters better.

Be warned, this is a surprisingly dark series. (I say that with no negative connotation attached.)
Despite being shoujo, Immortal Rain has a very shounen feel; the mangaka herself admits that is what she was going for. I think she pulled off the blend fantastically, opening up this series to readers who typically wouldn't go for shoujo while also adding something unique for avid fans.
What I love most about this series are two things: the unique-ness and the characters.
I could go on and on, but to put it simply, the story is nothing you'll see anywhere else.
And you absolutely have to appreciate characters that make you FEEL. If you read enough, you realize that is not a given. I grew to love these characters very quickly, and watching their growth throughout the series was both wonderful and heartbreaking. Most shockingly, characters I hated in the beginning evolved into characters I understood, sympathized with, and cried for.
I think this is one of those series that should be on everyone's shelf.

Read this manga, no matter what age or gender you are. I cannot believe I put it off for so long, this manga is phenomenal!!!! It was a perfect balance of intensity, action, romance, darkness and light. I would not have wanted this manga to change a bit.
One character that took my breath away was ms. Sharem. Despite seeming weak with her crumbling heart, she was the strongest person in this story. Really, I found her the most interesting and heartbreaking, as everyday she kept on living and trying to go on without her child. That itself shows the most strength in my opinion.
Some may find the beginning slow, as I have seen in comments below, but do not be discouraged! If you get past the shallow want of just a romance, this manga has so much more to offer. The themes, messages and deep plot was so refreshing and made me at a loss for words.
Basically, it is a story of lonliness. Each character has great amounts of loss, which makes them have that need to fill it with violence. We see the lonliness in living forever and what it means to be alone in the world. The poetic lines and the amazingly heart wrenching scenes made my heart stop more than once. I think this ties as my favourite manga of all time with only one other manga.
So... READ IT!!!

And by surprising I mean I was surprised it made a comeback.
It started off brilliant and then it sort of died down to the point where I wanted to give it up, only for it to perk back up again and hit a climax that had me engrossed for the rest of the story. Immortal Rain has everything you're looking for in a manga and I'm surprised "psychological" isn't a tag because my mind was a little f*cked with.
Did anyone else expect a "cute" or at least shoujo-y manga? Haha, don't be deceive, sh!t gets real and fast, but that's what made it so surprisingly good.
It's brilliant, I enjoyed it and the ending was very cute. A nice ride and I'll probably revisit it in the future. But, people, could you imagine an anime! *gasp* BEST. POSSIBLE. ANIME!

Immortal Rain is fantastic. There is absolutely no reason for you to skip over this gem of a work.
The best way for me to describe it is as the shoujo counterpart of Fullmetal Alchemist. Granted, on the surface, these are two very different, but they both have strong protagonists that develop over the course of the series, great and action-packed plotlines, a phenomenal cast of side characters, really accomplished artwork, and some very dark and heavy underlying themes about life and existence.
Maybe this is just because I love to read terrible chick flick-style manga, but in my opinion, Immortal Rain is arguably the best series in the shoujo genre. No exaggeration, this is a great series.
Also, side note, I know a lot of people have their panties in a twist over Machika being 14-15 and Rain being 624, but 1.) this is a terrible reason to gloss over a really excellent series, and 2.) their relationship is not sexual in any way, so you can go and calm yourself.

Im not a fan of sci fi but i regret not having read this earlier. I put it off for like years and now I want to repeat it over and over again.
It's just epic! It is kinda long but it's full of drama and action. getting past cliche characters, the story explores the truth behind the lives and feelings of superior engineered or modified humans. It can make you cry when you least expect too at times.
First time I read about a goofy guy with a really heavy past and it's just heart breaking at times. Esp with Yuca.
The ending was almost tragic but ended up rather beautiful. I expected more tragedy but oh well.
YOU MUST READ THIS. it's not like any other story/manga/book/movie anything i've come across. there's an element of boredom and anticipation at the same time. it's not to be rushed. take time coz you really gotta read at times to get what it's about.

it's been quite sometimes that i give comment here but this time, i really need to give it so that anyone that found this manga would not leave the current page..
even though i'm not a very good person in analysis certain manga like some others, i feel very satisfied with this one.. i have to admit, the romance that in this story isn't overwhelming that i thought it will be (like in kanata kara) but the story push the 'romance' feeling into another side..
Rain, so far is the one of the best male protagonist that i'd found.. he is so carefree even though had a tragic past.. and i think that is his best trait.. it's very hard to find guys like that in manga without ended up like Yuca..
in the aspect of Machika, she's a strong girl. no one can doubt that.. there are times when i think that she's manlier than Rain is (lol)..
and Yuca, sometimes i feel so sorry for him.. he is my favourite character in this manga.. and i gotta say, i love the fact that rain wait for him for 600 years.. what a friendship is that..
if you want to escape from the shoujo's (sparkles) moment, then this is the manga for you..
