ridiculous, yet there is something attractive

be prepared to meet characters with ridiculously unlimited strength.
be prepared that in the latter chapters, character strength got awful revision, their 'actual' power got way greater without any basis.
meet super genius people, who can beat veteran only with few months of training.
meet dumb girl characters who flock to the main character without any attraction process.
feast your eyes with ridiculous and also uniformed fashion (what so significant about the cloak?).
enjoy your time reading meaningless filler with a lot of pantyshot and nipple-less tits.
fall in awe with strange, unoriginal, and boring assortment of magic technique performed by characters.
be in shock for even weakest character can match up with masters after acquiring special item.

with a legion of minus points, yet this manga is still enjoyable.
sometimes, people want to read very light material, without taste, without plot solidity, just trendy.
its like watching gossip on tv, showcased poorly.

plus point?
there is some.
chao ling shen got a good design. her battle style's well shown, and the finale of her arc is fascinating.
albiero also got a good design. his innitial appearance make us think he is a super power. yet later, he confess that he actually has been greatly weakened.

Starts off bad, but gets a lot better

The beginning of it focusses mostly on the "harem, ecchi, shota, relationships" type of stuff, it lacks in plot and is kind of predictable, even to that point it was still interesting enough to read, but nothing great. I'd rank it at either a 6 or 7

About chapter 40~45 and onwards it becomes much more focused on "action, adventure, martial arts" and above all else- "plot", the art gets better as it goes on as well. there still is ecchi/relationships stuff, but just not as much

best manga ever!

i just love everything about it.
you won't a manga with this much comedy, action and such an awesome story again! i espacially like the development of the characters. negi started off as douchy little (somewhat stupid) kid and now he's like the personification of coolness.
and each character is interesting.
and FUCK YEAH! it's the first manga which has GOOD flashbacks! normally i hate those tricky bastards who hide themselves between the actually story but the flasbacks in MSN are actually quite interesting.

oh btw,
i wouldn't dare to compare this to harry potter since MSN is like 100 times better any comparison is unneeded.

Akamatsu's Greatest Masterpiece
by moondoggiebuiscuit
August 30th, 2010, 8:07am
Rating: 10.0  / 10.0
After Love Hina, the master Ken Akamatsu decides to make a Shounen manga inspired by Harry Potter. But as his publishers wanted more cash from the Love Hina fame, he decides to cheat his publishers out by having a harem that will rival Love Hina on the outside but has enough action and character development to rival Bleach, Naruto and One Piece inside. The result is a 20% Harem, 40% Comedy, 40% Action, 100% Badass Manga Xanathos Gambit that deserves a place in the annals of the manga industry. true to the Akamatsu style of story telling, we get more characters than ever, more comedy than the previous works, amazing action and backgrounds, 30+ females and a hero so badass you'll be comparing him to other shounen heroes as soon as you reach the latest volumes.... oh and did we mention that the hero is 10 years old?

Some may not agree just because of the first 5 volumes. His publishers did want a shallow harem comedy. But this master just Xanatos-ed his publishers in the second major arc which increased the action and the development, connecting past events and building up the story past Crazy Awesomeness Levels of Badassery in line with Naruto and Bleach. Even some mangas parody to it for it's sheer Moments of Awesome: Rampaging demon god? Bring out the Evangel of Darkness! Evil descendant mage threatening society? Team up with your best students and use a time machine to kick ass! Evil kid and organization up to destroy magical Mars? Go crazy with power and figure it out!.....Past 10 volumes, you'll be shouting for more. The author is a certified master!

Also apparently different from the rest is that the hero is unlike those from before. A 10-year old with the mind of a 15-year old and the power to blast a city to bits even more than Lucky Strike. And all that Chinese, Greek and Latin....

My tip on those skeptic: read first. Sometimes it pays to just try and swallow. Some people will hate this just because and will make all sorts of ridiculous accusations. But just try! His success in Love Hina isn't just for show.

And about his hiatus once in a while..... BLAME HIS HOT WIFE..... It's a common knowledge to all true Akamatsu fans that his moe cosplaying wife will forever demand hiatus.

I love it

The art is great is simply fantastic. It is well drawn and beautifully executed especially the battles. It has some humor in it which i find not that bad.

The storyline is lovable. It is very interesting seeing how a ten year old kid trying to control a class full of mischievous girls.

I find the girls are beautiful and lively. You will love them. I especially love Nodoka and Ku Fei.

The only complaint I have is that the author takes a break to much. I want negima every weak RAWRRR.

THE END. Rushed, THE LOVE UNKNOWN

Ok, so after 9 years we are at the end, the manga its fkng awesome, i do not deny that, but the ending was rushed, A LOT of things were not resolved and most important of all, who negi loves in the end its not mentioned, not even hinted, we can only conlude that the ones rejected and those who married are not in the negi's route anymore. I personally didnt enjoy this ending

Please check genre next time you read manga and decide to rate it publicly, because Negima is one of the top manga in ecchi/harem/shounen genre. One of the comments makes me want to ask someone skilled to write me a script that gives 1/10 rating to all shoujo, josei, yaoi, shounen-ai, etc. manga. Because when i know its not something i would be interested in i just dont read it.

Negima is a great manga, Akamatsu did a great job drawing action based story like he wanted, even when his publisher wanted it to be some random ecchi/fanservice shit. First volumes are just to introduce characters (with a lot of fanservice), but after that, when popularity increased, Akamatsu got green light and the real story begins biggrin

Changed my opinion as i read further...

When I first started out reading MSN it didn't appeal to me much and I dropped it after about 40 something chapters. Reading about the later chapters on blogs made me interested again so I picked it up again and boy was it worth it. I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed reading through all the chapter especially after the first major arc ends. Lets just say a whole new world opens up and really gives new meaning to the word adventure.

There are many iffy parts about the manga of course one being the blatantly silly ecchi situations. But as the manga went on I didn't mind them at all, since the story actually goes somewhere I don't really care about the pantsu... ok maybe I didn't really mind them at all later on biggrin

MSN ought to be judged by being read further and not on its face value. This manga really grew one me and now I eagerly anticipate the weekly releases. A pleasure reading it!

I absolutely love Negima (its probably obvious by my name) and think Akamatsu-Sensi as he was called in another comment, is a Genious. The Anime and Manga have so many wonderful and colorful characters that make the anime and manga a wondeful treat. I perosnally cannot wait to learn some of the other girls pasts like zazy for example. When it comes to the dub version though i watched exactly 5 minutes of it on youtube and prompty turned it off, the voices were terrible and did not do the characters justice.. But i am getting side trackked lol Anyways point i am making is this Anime slash Manga is Awesome and most likely in my opnion with just keep getting better

Negi > Love Hina

A great mix of comedy (baka rangers anyone?), drama, romance, and emotive storytelling; there's something here for most everybody (including you damn loli/shotacons). This is the 'best' take on the world of magic that I have yet encountered, and definitely one of the best shounen works I've read yet.

Story arcs haven't dragged along for an infinite amount of time like in other manga (though I may be getting ahead of myself), and you see a great deal of character development in many of the characters as the story progresses. Also, the storyline becomes MORE interesting as the series progresses (unlike others), and each arc has several expository mini-arcs, meaning no '8-chapter flashback' arcs that can be found elsewhere.

Since everyone's comparing this series to Love Hina, its time for me to climb on the boat as well. I like this series far more than Love Hina, but I appreciated the mangaka's homage and references to other works, throughout the series. Unlike Love Hina, I don't find the main characters to be excruciatingly annoying. The slapstick humor is very similar, but the eccentricity of some characters in Negi make it much more enjoyable for a person like me.

This review may not make a lot of sense, and is in no way objective. But you should most certainly have a look. It was worth my while.
