I'm a guy and I also read some shoujo. I actually started because there were no more shounen romance that I could read and since almost all shoujo manga contain romance I tried to check out some titles. Well, for the most part I hated the super cheesy and cliche shoujo (you know, those with the prince charming rich bishounens and after a few this and that the two main characters fall in love etc etc) I also don't like those with smut(ecchi ftw!). The shoujos I liked were Shinobi Life, Special A, Kouko Debut, Kaichou Wa Maid Sama,Gekka no kimi, Do-re-mi-fa-so-la-si-do, DNAngel(loved this). and...Peach Girl.

I would have to say:

Kodocha
Fruits Basket
Hell Girl (I love that series) 😀
Punch!
Tail of the Moon (Got Ninjas in) 🙂

I'm quite a picky shoujo reader and don't like the typical shoujo fare as well.
I recommend you read:

Strobe Edge
Akuma To Dolce
Sprout
Hotarubi no Mori E
Kon no Ki Konoha
Reaching You
Kare First Love
Angel Shop
For Us Who Begin To Love
Sakura Rhythm
24 Colors
Love Catalogue
Tropical ni Koiiro
Girlfriend
Dounika Naru Hibi

The last two are seinen but I think you'll like them.

hmm well heres a few i liked, but they arent like explicitly hardcore shoujo, just shoujo-ish
the day of revolution(short but a good trippy gender bender)
mint no bokura(about young characters, but still a cute romance)
Aishiteruze Baby(the toddlers in this one are cute as f man)

They both just sound funny, im gonna look into those.

i love all kinds of manga but shoujo and josei (the romantic kind) are still my faves. my boyfriend likes manga too, not shoujo though. BUT, i got him to read (and enjoy!) these series:

  • nodame cantabile (we loved both the manga and the anime)
  • nana (he found it a bit melodramatic at first but he got sucked in anyway, plus he's in a band so he found it more relatable than the usual highschool romance shoujos. nana's more of a josei anyway)
  • perfect girl evolution, gokusen (he found them entertaining because they're so silly)
  • ludwig kakumei (it's dark and kinda sick)
  • tokyo crazy paradise (action-packed, shounen-ish, but not too fond of the art)
  • hot-blooded woman (he found it funny, iit also gets really violent)

I would recommend Immortal Rain. It's shoujo with a shounen touch. It has a love story, but mostly it's a sci-fi adventure story. The first volume is a little rougher than the rest of the series, but it's very worth it. It is my favorite manga ever (and believe me... I've read my fair share). The characters are great too. I love Rain! 🙂

Other than that, many of the shoujos mentioned before are great picks, like:
Perfect Girl Evolution
Tokyo Crazy Paradise
Aishiteruze Baby

But seriously... Immortal Rain is the shit. Check it out.

I'm a guy, and Strawberry Shake Sweet is the only manga tagged "shoujo" on this site that I've ever been compelled to read more than one chapter of. It's a shoujo guys are almost certain to enjoy.

I'm a girl very much into shonen and seinan, there aren't too many shojo titles I really like, but I would definitely recommend
fruits basket
ghost hunt
gakuen alice (a little annoying, but enjoyable story)
for a bit of mindless reading beauty pop isn't too bad (I include it because it didn't make me gag or go to sleep)

stay away (these are one I found to be rubbish) from fushigi yugi, hana yori dango (there are no doubt others, but thankfully I've managed to block them out)

I also support Immortal Rain. It's just that amazing, and I am not lying. The story does deal with romance, but the romance is only part of a multi-faceted story that deals with a futuristic world with well-developed characters and a nihilistic child to top it all off. XD The action is amazing, and the story layout and character expression is just chillingly wonderful. The story is laid out so well that it doesn't need an anime.

Blood, horror, violence, thought-provoking wonderfulness, and great characters make this a series that anyone would enjoy.
