Description
Rain Jewlitt, known as the Methuselah, is a spaced-out, immortal, 624-year-old man dressed in priest's clothes. He's got eternal youth and a large price on his head—put there by those questing after the secret of his immortality.
Machika Balfaltin is a tomboyish, energetic 14-year-old girl who, upon the death of her grandfather, sets out to kill Methuselah, the one bounty her assassin grandfather, Zol the Grim Reaper, couldn't kill. Instead, however, Machika ends up being saved by Rain again and again from other aspiring bounty hunters attacking them both.

I love Rain, I love Machika, I love Yuca, I love Sharem,... I just love the whole cast! The only exception to the rule would be Freya. The way she treated Rain just isn't right. She couldn't appreciate him at all. She seems to be quite shallow.

I don't understand why this manga isn't more popular, really.
I discovered it years ago and have been following it religiously since I began. I think perhaps the author touched upon a subject that people cannot easily imagine, and definitely can't relate to--immortality. Rain has lived for over 600 years, watching people die. It's hard for any real human to sympathize, as its a pain we could only crudely envision. As far as my imagination goes, I think I can conceptualize it quite well. And perhaps that is one of the factors that I love, that despite all the pain the main character goes through he can still manage to smile. I am sure I would be unable to.
There are far more intrigues than that, however.
The main basis is romance, but it hardly overwhelms the rest of the plot. It's fast-paced, adventurous, heartwarming and altogether tragic.
I've read a complaint that "the bad guys never get killed when the protagonists get the chance". I'd like to form a small rebuttal in defense of the manga.
On another note, this is the only manga I have ever rated 10 out of 10.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
The main antagonist, Yuca, is also immortal, and has lived for who knows how long. But despite his wrongdoings towards Rain, he was evidently his friend. The only time Yuca had slept was against Rain's back. They have a bond, and it's not as simple as "Let's kill the bad guy because he's bad." Rain wanted to help Yuca, and even if he couldn't he claimed he would kill him if he had to, in order to save the people of the world that he still believed harboured humanity.
On another note, this is the only manga I have ever rated 10 out of 10.

Gorgeous manga with beautiful art and a sweet story. The plot moves along quick, but all the arcs seem to flow into each other seamlessly, rather than being episodic. The mangaka has also more or less done his homework as far as Christian references go, which is a huge plus point - it drives me crazy when bad Western references are put in just for the heck of things. Overall, this is a splendid fantasy story and well worth the read.

I haven't read a manga this good in ... FOREVVERRR >_______<
This manga reminds me of Trigun >__> Vash reminds me of Rain lol XDDDD
There's so much depth in this manga, every character has such an interesting past. The mangaka even took a break from drawing vol 9 to draw a sidestory about Zol. How cool is she?!
The relationship between Rain and Machika is so sweet! I mean at first, I couldn't knock off the feeling of 'pedophile'... but BUT BUT... the bond they build is so strong!
And Yuca, after reading about his past and why he wants to destroy everything, you can't help but wanna hug him and comfort him T_T ... In vol 9 you get to know him a lot better.
>__< I can't wait.. just can't wait til more chaps come out!
No matter what genre your into, no matter how busy you are... you will but down everything to read this. It's THAT GOOD.

This manga is a wonderful mix between comedy and tragedy, something that's rarely done so well. Over the course of these eleven volumes I grew to love and care deeply for almost all the characters, and it was hard to say goodbye. Nonetheless this series is breathtaking and there's something in it that's so pure and honest. The story's not boring at all, either, and it was sure a ride to read through all of these. You really get to know the "villain", too, which I greatly appreciated. With such a beautiful story, along with its own twists and turns, and also compelling and complex characters, this series ranks in one of my all-time favorites. It's weird to say this, but this manga made me cry and laugh at the same time, literally, because I'm so overcome with my emotions. And when everything hits at once (at the climax), I just couldn't stop my tears, and yet I'm happy for all of the characters. This is a beautiful and well-done piece. I hope to read more of this mangaka's work in the future.

This was the first shoujo romance I ever read (I really dislike the genre, but finally decided to give it a shot) and it'll probably be the last...cause nothing of the genre can compare! I just love this manga. And this is coming from someone who hate shoujo romance

this is one of the best mangas I've read so far... there are some parrallels with Trinity Blood (which is my number one favourite) and somewhat reminds me of Chrno Crusade (amazing manga!), the plot is simplier, though it doesn't make IR less fascinating and/or addicting!.. I absolutely love the shojo/shonen mix, imo it's the best way to portray the story, because it captivates both male and female readers. This choice of genres fixes the general problem of manga which is mostly too boyish or too girlish, i.e. either lacks feelings between the characters, when you hope to find them or lacks action and is to sugarly sweet.
In brevi, I would put 11 if I could.

The last vol. to come out was vol. 8 and that was in 2007. Did the author drop the series? I hate it when authors do that, especially when it's a super cool manga. This happened with Magic Kaito, Millenium Snow, WANTED, and quit a few other series.
