Anyone got any recommendations for stories that have a smart and intelligent heroine?. So far the only characters I've found are Yukino from Kare Kano, Haruhi from Ouran Host club Hikari from Special A and Sumire from Tramps like us, but thats about all I've found. If anyone has anymore recommendations that would be great. Romance would be a plus but I don't mind ones without. Any genre would be good to, although Josei/ Shoujo would be best.

yup, I found it suprising how hard it was to find an intelligent heroine in *any * story. Of course, there are a few around, but unless you REALLY look, I found the overwhelming amount of female leads in shoujo/ josei are basically all the same (as in: dense, crybaby etc. etc.).

but anyway, thanks for the suggestions everyone! particularly with kaichou-wa, Akagami no Shirayukihime, Anatasicia club and Joshikousei, I wasn't aware they existed. Five is new to me to. A few I've read but forgotten about, as well as some I havent read but forgotten as well.

If anyone has anymore suggestions that features stories with smart heroines would be great: particularly along the lines described above. However,even something like Eternal Sabbath- which has a such a main main character but is a supernatural/ fantasy, would be great to.

Unfortunately, in the shoujo manga world, most of the heroines are ditzy weak girls that can't do anything. But you did name a few that were smart.

Hmmm...what about Saiunkoku Monogatari...though the manga is still short so I recommend you watch the anime...it already has two season with 39 eps each.

Also, I find Yuuko from xxxHolic to be smart and intelligent though carefree

I just love smart heroines types, I also second Saiunkoku Monogatari and SA!

Stone Cold -- When I searched for "smart protagonist" to add this excellent manga to the list, all of the threads that came up were limited to male protagonists and/or shounen/seinen series. Then when I searched for "smart heroine," all of the threads except this one were limited to romance plots. Well, now you have it -- an extremely capable, strong female heroine of a josei manga, who is not the lead of a primarily romantic story.

I enthusiastically second Eternal Sabbath and Saiunkoku Monogatari (anime).

I will also add Ciel and Seigi no Mikata. 🙂
