O_o Wow, I'm impressed as to how far this thread has gone ever since I started it back in 2009. Thank you to all, who have participated in it all the way into the year of 2011! ^o^ (2012, hoooooo!!!)

I'm adding in a few more manga that I came across or realized, that had relations with memory.

- Karneval - A young naive boy, named Nai, is looking for a lost friend. He is "rescued" by a thief, who is in the middle of a mission. Both of them eventually end up in the care of "Circus", a secret organization whose duty is to protect the country. But, what connection does Nai's lost friend have with Circus?

(edit) Non-spoiler version: As for where memory plays a role in this, because I own all current 7 volumes in Japanese, there is an important character whose memory has been manipulated.

Spoiler version-
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Karoku's memories have been manipulated to a point that he thinks he has a different name, different parents, wasn't involved with Circus, and doesn't remember Nai. I wouldn't say he has "amnesia" per say but it's more like altered memories. I posted a small translation of this on a LJ post, but I've yet to share that with the Karneval LJ group. ^^; Haha. Er... Yeahh...

- Bokura no Kiseki (Our Miracle) - If you like NG Life, or familiar with its story, then you might like this one. It's NG Life with magic and bad guys/monsters involved! biggrin A guy remembers his former life as a princess, and a lot of his classmates are familiar with his situation. As soon as he's a high school student, however, he soon finds that he may not be the only one with such a unique memory and magic power...

I'm addicted to this manga ever since I stumbled upon it a few days ago viva scanlation. =.= If only I knew about it earlier, I would've bought the current volumes in Taiwan! Ragh... (Because, I've only come across a Japanese blog with pictures of the later chapters and it just didn't feel right translating those small important scenes.)

- Tripeace - Edit 2: Oh great, I just realized Tripeace was mentioned in this thread. Ha...

Keeping this 2 cents here though. =.= I'm not that crazy about the art style and the shounen fanservice but the story is interesting and funny. What's more.., I like that the main character's cross dressing situation...
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
..ends in Volume 8. So, he can put Nanako to rest! Geeze. It worked in the beginning, but as soon as he obtained "Kitsune", just can't imagine him applying his third law using that ability. Plus, with the short hair, he now looks like a guy and better looking! ^^;

For those who like a little ghost story in their josei...

Sugiru 17 no Haru - A guy must solve a mystery to his family's curse in order to restore his cousin back to normal. This involves possessed memories. I will not say further than that. ^^;

^__^ I'd like to thank the users for contributing to this thread before this year is up. Wasn't sure when to update this thread, but might as well do so now.

I'd like to add:

Izayoi no Hitomi - This one volume manga may never be finished in translation mode, but I can see that memories definitely do play a role here.

Sougiya Riddle - This manga will definitely remind some people of Monochrome Factor, but I think this is more interesting than MF. The artwork does require some time to get use to. Furthermore, I hope this series has a better ending and character development than MF. On top of all this, this manga isn't yaoi/shounen-ai, etc.,otherwise, even I wouldn't be reading it. It's just filled with a lot of bromance. =.=;; The chapter splash covers just pair guys together in weird positions, but that's about it. (And be prepared to see a lot of visual kei and gothic lolita fashion... Ugh..) As for where "memory" is concerned in the manga, the Undertakers will face a situation where they see other people's memories. (They can read "souls". It's their job to deal with lost souls.) It is also highly theorized that
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
the main character is the reincarnation of Sigmund. The fact that Sigmund resides in his body, means Sigmund's soul = the main character's. And well, Riddle HAS high interest in the main character and only wanted him as his partner. He "waited" years.........

Magi - Labyrinth of Magic - This is going to be a small stretch, but I think memories play an important role with the main character, Aladdin. His origins are mysterious other than waking up with no memories in a dungeon. He didn't even know what kind of person he is or anything about the outside world. He would sometimes have dreams of a "certain someone" and what happened in the past. That makes me suspicious = theory. Also, the Rukh can show Magi something too about other people's hearts.

I came across another memory related manga without even trying.
Totsugami - It's a super natural one. The main character's memories are

sealed away.

Another - male lead
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The story is more into dark theme, involve supernatural and killing. The person who lost the memory is the male lead, he does not remember what happen in the past. One of the girl said he looks kinda similar, though she still not certain and does not remember clearly. This manga have anime adaptation, better watch the anime v.

^ Super be-lated thanks for your contribution! ^_^

Time to make another update before 2013 hits.

*adds*

-- Chronos Deep - At this point in the story progression, we find out that memories do play a "role". The story involves working with shadows who possess you...

(I still think this story should've been developed a little bit more... It feels like everything was rushed and we're now on the final volume. *sighs* Well, that might also explain why it feels rushed at the same time.)

-- ReMember (KING Gonta) - Oops. I linked to the wrong comic in LilyLily's recommendation thread. Uh, this is the right one here in this thread. Not "Remember", the full colored manhwa. >___< Aah. Anyways, the title says it all. Guy forgets who he is in a war-torn environment...

And I'm just going to add into this post if I come across something else in the future for the rest of 2012. When 2013 hits, a new post will bump up this thread. ^_^

Edit: A day later, yep, found a manga from one of the other rec. threads that is memory-related. This one deals more with reincarnation.

-- Hajimari no Niina - Features a female protagonist, who must deal with the memories of her former life. Even if you're not crazy about "huge age gap" stories, like me, I do recommend this for any shoujo fan. A major theme with this story is all about "moving on from the past".

Edit 2 - 12/23/12 addition update - - -

- Dolls Music Staff - I keep forgetting to put this one in here! There are two protagonists in this manhua. The male protagonist lost his memory, but this story takes the "amnesia by accident" trope one step closer to weirdness... (Overall, this is a silly manhua....)

Spoilage part --> The bizarre part about this (to me) is that he
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
was made to believe he was a girl for many years. 0__0; ... I can't fathom exactly how this is even possible. I initially thought he was pretending to be one due to this parents. However, this is a fiction/fantasy so anything is possible, I suppose. I still find that even more bizarre than what happens after he gets his memory back with the dolls. >D

For something on the opposite scale...
- Baroque - Ketsuraku no Paradigm - This is based off a PlayStation game set in the "tragedy/religion" genre. The main male protagonist lost his memory and is forced to re-live some type of repentance event in order to set the world right again. (Just like in a video game, what happens when you die in an action/adventure video game? You start over again!) The question though for Baroque's protagonist, is he doing the right thing?

More titles to come if I find any....

Antimagia - the only one I can think of with special emphasis on memories (in terms of amnesia) and with them as a recurring theme.

^ Belated thanks! ^-^

(Aaah, I got to stop being late on thanking people... >_< )

2013 update add-on

- Manga -

Clay Lord
JOKE:ЯR'S
Shirayukihime to 7-nin no Shuujin
T.R.A.P.
Maigoya - Oh yay! Someone beat me on translating this manga's summary. Unfortunately for you guys, who can't read Japanese, you will have to wait a little longer until someone decides to pick it up. The story will feel a little slow, but, each Maigoya case/arc is like its own mini-story. I do not recommend this to people, who always want fast paced plots or a lot of action. I inserted the "slice of life" tag just to reflect the slower type of plot pacing much like Natsume's Book of Friends. I sometimes even wonder if this is even shounen? I feel like I'm reading josei...., with a shounen type of plot pacing. O.o Maigoya's "filler" arcs don't really feel like filler to me so I guess that's a good thing....? (And I've added some more tags to the category section. The story is more than just "amnesia".)

- Webtoons -

TAL
Black Haze
Aletheia
Trump - magical memory related object.
Crepuscule - something a character did involves memory.
lessa - to say why would be a spoiler.
Cheese in the Trap - Korean webtoons have the tendency to rely a lot on flashbacks, which bring depth to characters even in non-memory related stories. Cheese in the Trap, however, is one that stood out to me a lot. No one loses their memories in this story, but, it seems like "remembering" past events is a key thing among many of its characters. Sometimes, trauma appears from these past events causing the characters to react a particular way. I think it is going to be very essential to the male MC's development, because
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
of his lack of human empathy towards people he doesn't deem to be important in his life. Might have something to do with his mother's death.

- Online Comic -

OcculTango - Not a manga/manhwa, but it's time to promote non-scanlated work. *pumps fist*

Another recommendation project. I'm glad to see that our Educational Manga Project isn't the only one around. Here's an older series about memories that has recently been picked up again:

Kimi to Boku no Ashiato - Time Travel Kasuga Kenkyuusho by YOSHIZUKI Kumichi
In the near future a young, female scientist has found a way to let people relive their memories from an oberver's perspective. Together with her assistant, she accompanies her clients as they revisit their pasts in order to understand the present.

^ I know I'm not the only one keeping recommendation threads alive over the years, but wow.... I kind of remember your thread to be a lot smaller back then. Glad to see that you've obtained a lot of series' names since I last saw it (which was probably an year ago). I should bookmark it....

And thank you for your recommendation! ^o^

I'm going to throw in another webtoon since I just came across it: Like a Bird
Can't believe I never took notice of it after all this time.

Well, the original thread isn't mine but I decided to pick it up with some other members. We're still working on it in order to give it a new, revised form.

I just remembered more series about memories:

Kagen no Tsuki by YAZAWA Ai
Deals with memories on different levels: A girl falls for a street musician who holds on to his memories of another woman. A middle schooler meets a ghostly girl with amnesia in an abandoned villa. And all are haunted by a certain song.

Antique Bakery by YOSHINAGA Fumi
Episodic Slice of life series where one of the main characters is plagued by his repressed memories. Bits and pieces from his childhood surface throughout the manga. Some say otherwise but I for one think that it concludes nicely. Mild Shounen-ai content.

Shi ni Itaru Yamai by ASADA Hikari/ SEGUCHI Takahiro
Psychological rendition of Søren Kierkegaard's famous idea. A psychotherapist-to-be finds his first patient in a girl who suffers from the "sickness unto death". I can't say in which way it relates to the thread's theme because I don't want to spoil the story but it does.

Kurokami no Helga by SAKU Yukizo
Severe case of repressed - or rather oppressed? - memories. A whole village is bound to forget what their goddess considers a shameful necessity. A fable about discrimination and sin.

By the way, have you checked the category lists about memories?

I think the following haven't been mentioned yet?

Gokukoku no Brynhildr - The main female character is the main protagonist's childhood friend, but she has lost her memories. Worse, she loses memories every time she uses her abilities. One of the antagonists can read and modify memories.

Qualia the Purple - When the female protagonist calls one of her alternate selves, she will gain all that alternate self's memories.

The Pale Horse -
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
It turns out the girl really is a witch. A witch that has lost her memories.

Under Prin - I think the father demon has forgotten a thing or two.

Hanged Doll and Melo Holic - memory loss and memory manipulation. People with a few screws loose.

The Umineko series. It turns out that the witch is trying to make Battler remember something.
