Often in manga the characters are SO ridiculously selfless and I'm just so freaking tired of it. Kimi No Iru Machi the Tokyo arc is a grand example. Bokura Ga Ita is another. Moe Kare!! can count but thankfully the character is NOT rewarded for it in the end.

Yeah so can I get a story where a boy and girl "selfishly" love each other and no matter who or what comes between them they do not let go? Not even thinking about it even. They stubbornly refuse. Or a story where the character cares about their OWN wants and needs? And they do NOT change. It's not even selfish. It's called not being spineless. Not being a rug. Not being a human toilet that anyone can just crap into.

Thanks.

This is a really good topic, because I'm always looking for manga like this. However, this could go a couple of ways -- the situation of strong, GOOD characters who fight for their love, or characters who can even be immoral in their possessive nature and refusal to let anything stand in the way of their love. So yes, here's some suggestions in both categories:

-- Characters are still generally good people --
Red River
Mars
ES
Pieta (shojou-ai, very tastefully done)

-- Characters are relentless / ruthless in the pursuit of their Romance --
Watashi no... Megane-kun
Flowers of Evil (warning for incest)

Well, from what i've seen most manhwa have main characters like that... at least the female ones... my favorite one is Saver, it has one of the toughest characters i've seen

Thanks guys. I haven't read Saver, Red River, ES, or Pieta yet. I'll probably give these a shot.

Kirai - The female lead is pretty selfless (Not overly, though.), but the male lead is most definitely NOT.
Hikaru no Go - Fits perfectly! biggrin
Piano no Mori - The main character is pretty selfless, but when he finally finds something he wants to do, he's stubborn about doing it, and doesn't let anything stand in his way.
Capeta Same as above.
Twin Spica - Same as above.
Skip beat! - She is at the start, but not for long.
Major He's pretty selfish all around.

Only the first one/Skip Beat are romances, but the rest fit nonetheless.
