Everybody knows Harry's story - he was raised by people who treated him badly and didn't know that in fact he was a unique person, very famous in the wizards' world.

I would like to find a manga that follows a similar pattern - a person (or a group of people) suddenly finds out that he/she is someone important and has been since being born (because of a prophecy, unique lineage or special powers, for example), but was unaware of this. It would be nice if the plot involved an alternate universe.

Examples:
Silver Diamond - lineage and abilities
Please Save My Earth - reincarnation
InuYasha (Kagome) - reincarnation

Other examples (not exactly what I'm looking for, but may fit too):
Naruto - abilities (the demon sealed inside of Naruto)
Basara - a prophecy

Examples of what I do NOT want:
Katekyo Hitman Reborn!
Fushigi Yuugi
- they suddenly became 'unique', but weren't since they were born.

Please no ecchi, smut, hentai, GL. It would be nice if there was some action/adventure, but it's not necessary smile

I've always thought that Gakuen Alice was very Harry Potter-like: school for children with special abilities that's hidden from society, Mikan is at first unaware that she has an "alice." An underground group wishes to exploit these special powers. Birth/lineage secrets, etc. It's a pretty good series with strong character development and growth, and there are some adventure aspects. It's actually more intense and not as light-hearted as the summary implies.

I don't know if you like to read children's novels (I do, and I'm in my 20s), but I also recommend the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan.

Oh, I wanted to add that you might want to check out the prophecy and reincarnation category tags.

Mx0 Is probably a very decent manga for your taste! sad thing is the mangaka dropped it =/

Also Mahou Sensei Negima Is a rather popular manga based on a magical school ^^ I recommend this one \(*o*)/

Negima has quite a bit of ecchi-ness at the beginning but it turns into feelings soo if ecchi isn't too horrible you can read through it ^^

Not really a manga, but I would highly recommend the online Gunnerkrigg Court comic since it has very similar feel to Harry Potter not to mention an excellent story. wink

Dont know if theres a manga of it but... Yami no Matsuei is one of the best animes ive seen. Its about some kind of police dp but they are exorcists and fight stuff like vampires, etc with their special powers. Theres also Aflame Inferno this one is pretty good, its a manhwa and its kind of the naruto style you mentioned, the main character is a human with one of 4 demon lords ( North, South, East and West ) sealed inside his body but it isnt evil like the kyuubi, it actualy got sealed ( most like "entered" ) on his body to save him and now they fight other demons in the middle of a war between the demon lords with spells. It has a little ecchi but its just because of the femme fatale-like temper of the main female character ( which is also a demon ). Also Freezing by the same author and artist, Mahou Tsukai Kurohime and Übel Blatt and some others that I might remember later

I think 666 Satan might be something that you're looking for (Though the parts with Jio living with his foster parents happen in flashbacks).

This made me think of Kyou kara Ma no Tsuku Jiyuugyou!. It is about a boy who is a demon king, but his soul was placed into the mortal realm to keep him safe until he was ready to return to his kingdom. This manga is not really meant to be taken seriously though. It has a lot of fan-service because 95% of the characters are attractive men. (Shounen-ai)

You may also like Ayashi no Ceres where the main character is a reincarnation of a goddess. Her powers are awoken on her 16th birthday and the drama ensues. It is captivating with a lot of plot twists.

Nabari no Ou is like... a good version of Naruto. It is set in modern time. The main character suddenly finds out he has a very powerful ninja ability sealed inside of him that can grant wishes, but wants nothing to do with it. However he has no choice but to get involved because dark forces desire this ability and try to take it from him. (It is not listed as shounen-ai, but it pretty much is. Hard to explain without spoilers)

D•N•Angel• is about a boy who's angelic alter ego possesses him on his 14th birthday and plays the role of a local phantom thief.

(^ all of the listed manga have an anime version as well)

People should really learn to fully read the request before posting. Hes not looking for "magic school" manga. What he wants is manga where the protagonist(s) are unimportant and neglected in the beginning but later its revealed that they're special in some way.

ao no exorcist - The main character is an trouble making orphan who turns out being the son of satan.

Sorry for replying so late smile
As darknova42 said, I'm not looking for a manga about a magic school, that's why some recommendations don't make sense (like Yami no Matsuei - I've read it and I have no idea how it can match my request).

Some time ago I tried to read Kyou Kara Maou, but I didn't like it, I'm not sure why. I guess I have a different sense of humor than the one presented in the manga smile I'm not a fan of Yuu Watase, but I'll give Ayashi no Ceres a try.

Ao no exorcist also sounds nice - at first I was put off by it's cover, but I'll definitely read it.

I'll check other titles too (even though some of them are not exactly what I asked for). Thank you very much smile
