... I swear, I'm going to punch my computer screen.

I don't know about you all, but it seems like when ever I try to look for something new to read I get bombarded by a shit ton of typical shoujo tropes. And to say it's driving me up the wall is an understatement. I don't mind a typical shoujo here or there, but I need some variety and that's something not a whole lot of people are dealing in right now.

And cause I am a lazy ass, here is my challenge to you all. I want some manly action or a shoujo gal packed with gar. And I want them to be that way through the WHOLE series. None of this crap like in [m]Maidsama[/m] where what's-her-name is gar through the first couple volumes then turns into a blubbering schoolgirl once she falls in love. I want none of the blushing, does-he-love-me?, or unexpected fiancées showing up. Gar people, gar. >=3

As for manly action, I would prefer that the hero/heroine is badass in the start of the series. Think something along the lines of Black Cat or Trigun. I'd rather not go through volumes and volumes worth of "training scenes" if ya know what I mean. And it needs to be very manly, fast paced with lots of action. A real edge of your seat series. None of those series where they spend more time planning how to defeat their enemies then doing it. I prefer shounen, but I'll read senien as well, as long as it isn't dripping in gore or sex.

I would like everything to be completed. I already have more ongoing series then I can keep up with. I would also prefer if they were on the shorter side. 20 volumes being the max. If I want to read 50 volumes worth of something I'd go pick up One piece. XD

No hentai, yaoi, yada yada. You all know the drill. THANKS IN ADVANCE TO ALL YOU AWESOME PEOPLE. =D =D

Hmm...

This is shoujo, but Machika of Immortal Rain is pretty kick-@$$ for a 14-year-old. I mean, come on—she hauls a scythe around and her sole goal in life is to chop of the head of an immortal. She does have some girly moments, but they're only natural and not overwhelming. The series is 11 volumes long, complete. The eleventh volume was recently released in Japan, and the remaining chapters should be released at a slow, plodding pace (of about one chapter every month or two-ish) since I'm doing the scanlating... ^^;;

If you're looking for shounen, Nabari no Ou has some tough female characters. However, they are not the lead characters.

I'm sorry; I wish I could help more.

If you want action heroines, you could start off with Black Lagoon and Ghost in the Shell.

Badass Female Heroines:
Black Lagoon - Revy is the gunslinger/close combat expert in a band of pirates. Balalaika is the leader of the russian mob in singapore. (Ongoing)
Jormungand - Koko is a gutsy arms dealer. She doesn't fight all that much, but she's really sharp and shrewd. She makes the rest of her team fight for her. (Ongoing)
Shuto Heru - Female lead becomes a renegade soldier driven by revenge after witnessing the massacre of her battalion.
Claymore - About a world protected by a ruthless all-female troupe of knights. (?)

Badass Male Heroes
Dragon Eye - Commander is an unmotivated, but extremely skilled fighter. (Finished)
Fullmetal Alchemist - (Finished)
Code Breaker - Male lead is a powerful fighter.
Dogs Bullets & Carnage - Male lead is an immortal gun-fighter.
Zombie Powder - Main character fights with a chainsaw. (Finished)

sorry >.< Most of these are unfinished.

Vitamin (SUENOBU Keiko) - becomes a very gar shoujo heroine. Same with Life, though the scanlations are ongoing.

Black Lagoon - manly action all around. Not complete, but it seems to be on hiatus, if that counts.

You might like the heroine of Saruyama! (aka Monkey High!). It's a high school shoujo romance, so no fight scenes or whatnot, but within the confines of that genre, she's rather gar. She's attractive, intelligent, and cool. She also regularly gets awesome moments in the manga. (And thankfully never turns into the kind of blushing, incapable heroine you dislike.)

For shounen, you'd probably like the women in Nurarihyon no Mago and Beelzebub. There is plenty of action in both series.

Second Tokyo Crazy Paradise she is freaking awesome
And Full Metal Alchemist's heroines have wonderful personalities. They may take on a quiet role, but they definitely have backbones.

Also try out these:
Hellsing
Chrno Crusade
RG Veda (The leads are male, but the women are amazing too)

Firstly I liked your post, nicely done.

As for recommendations, it's difficult to remember the names of the awesome manga I have read in days gone by but when I think about manga that have heroines that aren't all boo-hoo when they fall in love I immediately think of those Korean manhwa where the heroines are like Yakuza men who are difficult to break.
E.g:
Hot blooded woman
and
Saver
Saver might be more up your street.
Then again those two are pretty well known so chances are you've already read them.
Though I don't know about you but Korean Manwha can be ever so annoying. For example I had to wait till the author finished Hot blooded woman so I could skip to the end because all the evil witch characters and the general angst was getting on my nerves.

Skip beat is a pretty obvious example of a strong heroine. I mean sure she starts out a little weak but she turns almost to stone. It's dragging on a bit now though.

The amount of manliness and gar in this thread pleases me. >=3 I've already read quite a few of these but some of the others look pretty good. Keep em coming guys.

Just recommended this one to someone else, but it reminded me it would probably fit here too:

Kimi wa Boku no Toriko Nare - Shoujo series featuring a female bodyguard. It's still ongoing, so I can't say she'll never turn into a wimp, but for now, she's definitely a force to be reckoned with. (My guess is that she'll probably stay strong throughout the manga because the boy she guards isn't a fighter at all, so he'll always need her protection.)

And of course along the same lines as that one: Seirei no Moribito.
