So I'm quite a feminist, which means I do not think that girls should be weak, hide behind guys, etc. So I prefer strong female protagonist (all my fanfics are like that also >-<)

Are there any mangas out there with physically strong females?

I've read most Hwang Mi ri, Han Yu Rang, I've read Red Lion, Basara, the other strong manga I forgot.. I like mangas like Fly High so with shoujo... i don't really like shounen.

Any ideas? Thanks!!

first one that comes to mind is Duenan Knute from Appleseed. She starts out pretty badass, and only gets more badass with every page.

Kaichou wa Maid-sama!
GALS!
Good Luck
Otogibanashi wo Anata ni

I don't remember if the female was really physically strong in these, but I'm pretty sure she doesn't like hiding behind anyone.
Vampire Game
Mugen Spiral
Wedding
Heart no Kuni no Alice

If I remember a few others, I post them. smile

Not the focus of the story but spice and wolf has a strong female(you might say her strength is demonlike[/shamelesspatheticjoke]) anyway it should work out... also hot blooded woman might work out as well.... I still haven't finished it cuz it got so dramatic I lost the will to read(I'm in comedy mode atm) but its rather good.

There is also yankee-kun to megane-chan but its mostly just mushy romance and comedy... hekikai no aion also kinda fits the strong female thing but the lead is a dude I doubt its your genre... there's also
[m]samurai highschool[/m](its more of a gag and it can get a little boring but its entertaining)
saikano (lead is male but at several points it follows the chick while she is away fighting.... rly sad ;-wink
Tokyo crazy paradise*** this series is amazing and fits
skip beat** similar to above but less serious and rly fun to read
Superior*** just pplain amazing.... just stop reading this post and read it xp

Hoshi no Samidare seinen
Chou Dokyuu Shoujo 4946 shounen, but sweet
Yumekui Merry seinen
Black Lagoon seinen, gore
Mirai Nikki shounen, strong but a bit* disturbed female lead
Mahoromatic seinen, but female android could leave this out
Grand Sun shoujo

*a bit more than a bit though

(all those recs only include physical strength, not mental)

definitely second black lagoon and gokusen. Also, Alita fromBattle Angel Alita would count since even among cyborgs she's exceptionally powerful. And, if you get the chance, I suggest you watch Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit, and The Twelve Kingdoms. In the latter, however, her physical abilities are enhanced via a magical creature. Maybe it's cause i have softspot for serious fantasy but both those anime get 10/10 from me

I'm pretty sure you heard of Mahou Sensei Negima?

Would you be interested if a girl was physically weak at the beginning, then gets stronger over time?
I'm making a story of something like that, if you like to hear it.

Pick any from Shirow Masamune.
most if not all his work have female leads and most are physically strong. all are mentally strong and all-round Bad-ass.

My Favourite being Motoko Kusunagi - ghost in the shell.

The female lead from Domu - she is a kid and not physically strong at all but has amazing meal resolve that will make most shounen male leads wet thier pants.

Well, the words 'physically strong heroine' and 'shoujo' do not usually go in the same sentence (Tail of the Moon?).

Although I actually prefer that the girls are weak like nature intends them to be, I have unfortunately seen the opposite in plenty of shounen titles:

- VITA Sexualis (main female is athletic, and becomes stronger when she combines with the main male)
- Love Hina (main female can pack a punch to the main male)
- ef - a fairy tale of the two. (main female is very good at sports and studies despite skipping class often out of 'boredom')
- Seikon no Qwaser (main female was in a kendo club)
- Claymore (well . . . Just read the description)
- Hatsukoi Limited. (has many 'mains,' one of whom plays tennis and another was an Olympic candidate in middle school for swimming)
- Ane-Doki (main female can beat up a bunch of guys on her own)
- Yomeiro-Choice (main female can scare the protagonist)
- Fortune Arterial (main female is a vampire; 'nuff said)
- Detective Conan laugh (Ran can break a wall with just her fist)
- NARUTO ([insert debate about the usefulness of Sakura]) laugh
