I know there are lots of threads looking for shoujo/josei/romance, and believe me, I have looked through them, but I just can't seem to find what I want...which may be due to the fact that I don't really know what I'm looking for.
Basically, I want an average shoujo. What I mean by that is something like Black Bird, Love so Life, L DK, Say I love you, Ai Hime - Ai to himegoto, Mars and Ten no Ryuu Chi no Sakura.

I suppose what I'm looking for is something where the main characters don't spend half their lifes getting into awkward situations and finally confessing at the end of the series. But at the same time, I don't want angst and stupid females leads and break-ups and makes up. If there's going to be drama, let it be around something else in the story (like Misao in Black Bird has the whole issue of being eaten etc.).

I don't want a stupid female lead. By that I mean the typical low-test-score lead, and also the naive leads that are everywhere.

hmm...this isn't very specific. I suppose if someone could just recommend me some "average" shoujo mangas like the ones I listed above (ones that aren't blow-you-mind-out stunningly original, just don't have annoying female leads.). I can even put up with cliches as long as the female lead isn't annoying.

On a side note, I'm also looking for:
Shoujo/josei where a boy and a girl fall in love, but the dude's a delinquent who stays a delinquent.
Shoujo/josei with a mentally strong female lead.

No yaoi/yuri/hentai/ecchi. I don't mind smut, but would prefer it to be like Black Bird or Ai Hime.

Have you tried Shinobi Life?

Hana no Namae? The female lead is pretty mentally strong.

Have you tried reading Stardust Wink or Love Berrish, Crimson Hero, and there is also Highschool debt 🙂 all good manga 😀

Dengeki Daisy, Gokusen, Bitou Lollipop. I was also thinking of Kaichou wa Maid-sama! and Ore-sama Teacher, but you already got them on your on hold list.

lol your post contradicts itself, you want something average, buit nothing with the typical points, but then again you can tolerate cliches >.<
especially Love so Life, I would never call average - isn't it quite original...?

I totally forgot to mention Kamisama Hajimemashita. I'm not 100% sure if you're going to like it, but it's fairly good "average" shoujo. The ones I mentioned earlier are rather above average.

Reimei no Arcana - its still ongoing, but is really good
Red River - I always suggest this manga... The MC isn't stupid like most shoujos..
Karekano - a bit old, but a classic
Mekakushi no Kuni - I just love this history

I seriously hate shoujo with as much loathing as I would someone who eats babies. Because that's what it feels like, watching someone eat babies. I liked Blue Friend though.

Monokuro Shounen Shoujo might be to your liking as well.

Have you read the other works by MITSUKI Kako? If you haven't, I think you'll like Kiss/Hug.
