Hi, I'm new here. I've just finished tokyo crazy paradise and I absolutely loved it. I was searching something similar to it, as in a female leads who has guts, preferably involving martial arts as well, and gender bender would be a major plus as well. I've read some similar ones such as red lion and hot blooded woman. Any suggestions would really be welcome.

Hmm, I think Grand Sun is kind of similiar with the whole bodyguard thing. It's more lighthearted though, and I'm not sure about gender bender though, so far, she doesn't ever dress like a guy. That's all I can think of

W-Juliet by the mangaka of Grand Sun fits your listed requirements. Grand Sun is only partly scanlated, and while chapter six is up I'm still waiting for chapter five.....grrrrrr......On the other hand, Mangafox has twelve of fourteen volumes of W-Juliet.
May I say that I strongly approve your taste in manga? Tsukasa is the strongest competitor for the "My Favorite Heroine Ever" Award. Which reminds me--you might like Basara too.

Will no one scanlate Takahashi Miyuki?! T_T

completely second this. not as funny and not about bodyguarding, but it gives off the same feeling.

Thanks for the suggestions guys!! I'll definitely have a look at Saver and Basara.
I had heard about W-Juliet, but since it was a guy dressing up as a girl, I didn't really think I would like it but since it has been recomended once more, I will give it a try.
And u dont have to tell me about Skip Beat, totally up to date and waiting for more!!
And I agree with you Alannaeowyn....I hate starting a manga and having to wait for the chapters at the beginning itself, so I think I will wait a bit before I start on Grand Sun though it definitely does sound good.

Have you tried Vanilla Ice?- it's gender bender, and the main girl can certainly fight and I would say acts as a 'body guard', in a way, to her best friend.
As for girls who can fight in general Matsuri Special, cheeky angel (gender bender) and Jun'ai Tokkou Taichou! might qualify, if you prefer shoujo. click (also gender bender) also has a heroine/ hero? who can fight when the need arises as well. five might also qualify a little- despite it's weird art, it also has a main female character who can fight when she has to much coffee or gets angry.
hope they help.

One more. 9 Banme no Musashi has a butt-kickin', generally disguised, really cool bodyguard heroine. I enjoyed it, but there's only about three volumes scanned. *sigh*

i second five! it's really funny! And TCP is amazing!
what about 'kaichou wa maid sama', she is this super tough girl who works part time in a maid cafe, super funny.
or 'code breaker'? although the girl isn't the only main charcter.
Knight princess is a gender bender about this illegitimate princess who pretends to be the real princess' male bodyguard.
Penguin revolution? that's full of GB
sorry, i don't know how to link the manga!

I would definitely recommend 1/2 Prince. It's a personal favorite of mine. Not completed, but fantastic overall. It doesn't have the martial arts, but there is fighting between the characters. It is amazingly funny and the girl is tough. She enters a video game as a man to prove a point to her brother and pretty much takes over the game as Blood Elf. I also love the art style. Again, my favorite
I'd also recommend Gokusen. I find that Yankumi is one of my favorite female characters. She's tough, cool, and smart about the way she lives. She has her dumb moments and can miss the obvious, but overall... She's overppwering in comparison with everyone else around her. Even in the midst of her delinquent students and yakuza family, she's never afraid and actually jumps head first when either one are threatened. She earns the respect of those around through her spirit and character. She's also dedicated to her students, job, and family. Fast becoming a favorite if it isn't already.
Although the next one is not really similar to Tokyo Crazy Paradise at first glance, but I'm still going to recommend it to you. Ouran High School Host Club is another of my favorites. It's one of the few that I would read over again and buy so I could have it in the hard copy. Haruhi is nothing like the heroines of the manga I've already suggested. She's passive, lazy, usually relies on the actions of the other characters to push her forward plotwise, and incredibly calm most of the time. Even so, on the few occasions that she has to be tough, she's not only tough but outspoken. Her character gradually evolves as a result of the people she surrounds herself with. I'd also say that she has guts because of her situation. She's a poor student on a scholarship to a huge, elite school that is filled with rich families. Regardless, she faces it all calmly and refusse to be awed or enamored by her new surroundings. She takes everything in stride. However, it does have the gender bender factor, even though almost eveyone finds out pretty quickly.
My last recommendation is for Perfect Girl Evolution. This one is also not similar at first glance, but I think it has a similar feel about it. Sunako is tough in her own right, though it only shows rarely since she locks herself away all the time with her anatomy doll and horror movies. She does not gender bend at all, but her appearance is still scary to others and leads to misunderstandings in the manga since she comes off as a spirit. Sunako also kicks butt when she needs to but more often than not, she's a bit apathetic. However, like TCP, she is in a situation where she is forced to be somewhere she doesn't to be and change into something she doesn't to change into. Even so, she gets accustomed to her new way of life but still fights it off at different angles.
