Hi guys and girls,

As an avid manga fan I've reached the point where there are no new manga's that interest me. Sure there are the occasional ones such as Koe no Katachi that have a strong impact, but these kinds of manga/s are getting few and far between.

Guess what I am asking for here is for your own personal favorites. I would like manga recommendations that have left a deep impression with you, something you'd remember for the rest of your life. A work by an author that have made you think at the end of your reading spree "I am glad I read that, that was so worth staying up the whole night to read"

I read pretty much every genre, just not yaoi. Sorry not really into that based on personal preferences (not dissing the genre itself). Shoujo is a hit and miss for me too, but if it's filled with characters that are not two dimensional and supported by a decent plot, then by all means, please recommend.

Thanks!! biggrin

Otoyomegatari, I'm quite in love with it.
Helter Skelter is a really good read, but I can't say everyone will like it (I actually have a love & hate relationship with it).
Natsu no Zenjitsu

Edit: Also couldn't find Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan in your list! Give it a try!
Didn't find Omoide Emanon either and I really like this story.
Mushishi also!

I know it is totally unrelated, but you could try this topic where some people list good manga they have read.

1)Hana no Namae

2)Hana wa Knife o Mi ni Matou

3)Daisuki Datta yo, Sensei... (Just the 1st story)

4)Butakai Ouji to 100 Kai no Kiss

5)Meteor Methuselah

1 - Left a deep impression. I really love this story.
2-4 I've read more than once. Which is saying something since I hardly ever reread anything, and if so usually 5 years has to pass, but not with these.
5 - Yes, I was happy I stayed up all night reading this. To me the ending needed a little bit more, but still a good maybe great ending. ( Which I find most endings are never enough).

Oh here's something that's still ongoing, but I've already reread the chapters that are out. Lip Smoke

These are my top favorite that had some sort of impact on me. I hope you enjoy them.

... (afterthought) I hope I didn't raise your hopes too high with these. Sometimes I feel when someone recommended something great, and when I give it a shot with high expectations I end up feeling a bit let down a majority of the time. So ... No high hopes? ....

Kanata Kara

It's a bit of a cliche shoujo, but it has that old flavor and heart that reminds me of the stuff CLAMP did which got me into manga, plus I love a sweet, pure romance. (I've read this multiple times.)

Reimei no Arcana

Another shoujo, but it's got a good adventure story.

Hope these help~

A Night of a Thousand Dreams
Cesare
Dusk Story - Tasogare Monogatari
Gunslinger Girl
Hoshi no Sabaku
Pluto
Satougashi no Dangan wa Uchinukenai
Spiral

Definitely seconding Kanata Kara. It really is a traditional shoujo in which a girl falls into an unknown, fantasy world, but it's such a well done story that manages to circumvent all of the pitfalls of the genre wonderfully.

Oh, and Mushishi is definitely a great read too.

I second Otoyomegatari it's quaint and beautiful. Different from regular shoujo.

A Night of a Thousand Dreams and especially Let Dai are great but they are shounen ai/ softcore yaoi. For me Let Dai especially was a glad i read that story and this is just my opinion but, unlike several great manga that fizzle out, the ending doesn't disappoint.
Also check out Heart of Thomas although it's about kids you'd be surprised at the depth of the story.
Cesare, Historie and Threads of Time are pretty good if you are into period manga. Threads of Time also has a cute romance angle.
You might also give Normal City a try it's a sci-fi, gender-bender shoujo with a deep storyline, but that description hardly does it justice.

Can't think of any more at the moment. Hope this was helpful! biggrin

Probably because it's not shoujo. At all.

Fullmetal Alchemist... will never forget...

Death Note... left a bad impact on me tho, that was way too intense lol

Gintama... tbh I started with the anime, but ...you think it's all fun and games because it's gag but then it rips your heart out and stomps on it like it's a piece of trash.

Noblesse, and Tower of God, the main characters are absolutely amazing... in different ways... i can't praise these two webtoons enough.

I actually only have shoujos to recommend but I do urge you to give them a go.

Taiyou no Ie is an emotion roller coaster. You will feel what the characters feel and they are definitely not two-dimensional. Also, most things by Sakisaka Io are gorgeous; Strobe Edge is my all-time favorite. I can reread it a countless number of times.

Haha. Sorry, my bad! I guess I tend to lump everything with a female protagonist into Shoujo. Checked the tags, apparently Otoyomegatari is Seinen and Normal City is Josei.
