Have you read Cat Street? - based on an ex-child actor and her return to society - I put it off for ages after reading the summary but it is compelling and keeps you reading chapter after chapter!

Your request is ridiculously broad, so have a list of manga, Hentai, Ecchi, doujinshi, yaoi, yuri, shoujo-ai, shounen-ai, lolicon and shotacon excluded, and listed by rating.

From the first page I can recommend:
Skip Beat
Dengeki Daisy
Otoyomegatari
Glass no Kamen
Love so Life
Basara
Kanata Kara
Kamisama Hajimemashita
and I suppose I'll second Cat Street as well, though I think it's a little bit overrated.

I also find it amusing that you consider Strobe Edge to be full of clichés to the point of being unbearable to read, but you loved Haou Airen and Boku no Hatsukoi wo Kimi ni Sasagu among others. But hey, guess everyone's entitled to their opinion.

My all-time favorites are Spiral: Suiri no Kizuna, Fruits Basket, and Onani Master Kurosawa.

They all have unusual premises, are above average in terms of being difficult to predict what will happen, have likable characters, reflect deeply on some aspects of the human condition, and are complete. Furthermore, Spiral involves some very clever and interesting plots, and the other two are very emotionally moving at times.
