A lot of people read multiple genres of manga, so I thought it would be interesting to see what people consider their favorite, and if that has any correlation to favorites in other genres. Pleas try and only list one per catagory

Post your top favorite manga that fits into each of these genres

1Shounen/Seinen Battle Manga
This is for mangas that mainly deal with fighting and long drawn out battles (eg Naruto, One Piece, Bleach,) it's also alright if its shojo or josei, as long as it mainly is about battles. This can also include sports, if its in a battling way.

2 Shojo/Josei/Shonen Love Romance Manga
Mangas that feature Romance between characters as a main theme, this category is not for Ecchi, Smut, yaoi, yuri, or Moe. The Romance is generally clean and not about sex, or ridiculously stereotyped characters like tsunderes. (eg Lovely Complex,)

3 Comedy and Humor/Gag Manga
You read this for laughs and that is the main reason it is written. This category does not include ecchi manga, as that falls into #5. (eg Yanki-Kun To Megane-Chan, Gintama at times falls into this,Sket Dance)

4 Lets Learn About Something/Sports Manga
Reading manga can be fun, but you can also learn something at the same time. This catagory is for mangas that aim to teach you more about something. If it's a sport, the sport is depicted realistically and will teach you rules and give advice on how to play and win. As long as it's trying to be realistic or informative it will fit into this catigory. (egOokiku Furikabutte, Yakitate!! Japan, Hikaru No Go, Bakuman)

5 Otaku/Fujoshi Manga
Are there characters you get obsessed about, this type of manga aims to service you and people with similer tastes. The characters and sinarios are not always realistic (though sometimes they can be) but you love it for just that reason. Moe, ecchi, smut, yaoi, yuri, and other similer catagories go here. Often includes characters with stereotypes and ridiculous love plots. Sometimes this category is disguised as slice of life or humor, but don't let it fool you.(eg K-ON!, Kaichou wa Maid-Sama!, ichigo 100%, gravitation)

1Ao No Exorcist
2 Lovely Complex
3 Yanki-Kun To Megane-Chan
4 Bakuman
5 Kaichou wa Maid-Sama!

  1. Shounen - Alive
  2. Shoujo - Honestly have no idea... I like shoujo series, but I don't have any that I particularly love... or would choose as a favorite...
  3. ComedyHumor/Gag - Kyou no Asuka Show (?? I don't know if it would be put in this category, but I love this cute series)
  4. Skill - Uhhh.... Liar Game??
  5. Otaku - I don't really understand this category... but... maybe Aria...... 😕 😕

You are like the dense main character in a shoujo manga.

  1. Shounen - Kateikyoushi Hitman Reborn!
  2. Shojo - Errrhhhh.... I don't think I have anything in my favorites that fits this one
  3. Humor - Yuru Yuri
  4. Skills - Bakuman
  5. Otaku - It's hard to choose in that one, a lot of series seems fitted, but at the same time unfitted uhmm~ Is Mushishi okay? If not I'd say Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu (Novel)

I don't really read many things that fall in these categories, but for what it's worth...

  1. 3x3 Eyes
  2. Normal City ... if it counts. I liked it for other reasons though...
  3. Lucu Lucu
  4. Shion no Ou
  5. Uuuuuuuuuuuuuum - I dunno. If Aria fits I'll go with that, but I don't really understand this category either.

  1. Rave Master, probably... I haven't read one in a while (that isn't ecchi), so I'm not sure.
  2. Kimi no Iru Machi or Unbalance Unbalance. I haven't read UU in a while (past volume 2), and it might be considered Otaku, so... Kimi no Iru Machi it is. Pita-Ten for Shojo.
  3. BoBoBo-Bo Bo-BoBo for the lol moments. Or maybe Yotsubato!...
  4. Wild Life, although it's mainly because it taught me about Mega Mouth Sharks. 🙂
  5. This'll be hard since all I read in ecchi... mainly, sooooooooo I'll say GTO, k?

1. Until Death Do Us Part ... it's actually the only shounen/seinen with action that I read -- but I rather enjoy it. (Unless Nabari no Ou counts...)
2. Basara or Cat Street or Hana Kimi ... ugh, too many.
3. I don't think I've read anything that would fall under being a specific gag manga. But Flat (Aogiri Natsu) is both funny and adorable to me.
4. Oofuri for sports. I looove baseball, ahaha.
5. Totally Captivated. Unfortunately, I'm a fujoshi and wish I could put more than one.

  1. Vinland Saga - Need I explain why? It actually has a plot in addition to all the fights.

  2. Nothing. I don't read manga centered on romance.

  3. Yotsubato! - I know it's a typical answer, but this is the just the most adorable manga ever!

  4. Mushishi - If I understood correctly, you didn't say it had to be a sports manga. Mushishi is most definitely not; but it is singularly the most realistic and purposeful story I have ever read.

However, if I misunderstood, and you were asking for realistic sports manga, then it would have to be Real.

  1. Get Backers - But I have to make it clear that I am not reading this for the ecchi! (I'm a girl, after all). It's the only ecchi manga I read, and that is because there is a very endearing dynamic between all the characters. It is most definitely not just fan-service, and has a great plot besides. The ecchi is never the primary focus of the story, and it gets less and less pronounced in later volumes.

  4. uhh... Eyeshield 21 wait- Slam Dunk
  5. Banana Fish nothing 'fanservice' or 'stereotypical' about it but I just adore and love this manga(main characters) so I guess it fits in.

  1. Dragonball. Maybe not my favourite thing that could be squeezed into this category with some flexible thinking, but certainly fits the category perfectly and gets a big nostalgia bonus.
  2. Hard finding somehting for this category with all the restrictions on it. Watashitachi no Tamura-kun I suppose.
  3. Katteni Kaizo, had a lot of options for this category.
  4. Bakuman
  5. Sora no Otoshimono
