Hey, i recently decided to change the fact that i don't read much shoujos but, as i have way less knowledge on it than in other genres, i want you guys to recommend me something. My lists are public, so you can see what i like to help me.

Facts to keep in mind: I am a 16-year old male and i would prefer that romance is not the ONLY focus of the history, but i'm fine with any genre (If you feel that's is REALLY worthy, i can ignore that). I also don't usually like that typical shoujo art style.

Thanks in advance, and sorry for maybe being too picky.

Some suggestions, since i had read a lot shoujo mangas:

Hibi Chouchou
Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun
Dengeki Daisy
Kimi ni Koishitei desu ka.
Orange (TAKANO Ichigo)
Hirunaka no Ryuusei

I can give more names smile all those mangas have beautiful art and especial characters.

You should try Orange (TAKANO Ichigo) is a masterpiece among shoujo, tragedy readers, but unfortunately it won't have an end. cry but still... Is a masterpiece smile

Oooh, thanks! I checked out the first chapter of Orange a while ago, and liked it a lot, don't know why i didn't progressed. The thing about it not ending is sad, though. But i guess i read a lot of stuff whose scans have stopped, it's not like i'm new to it....

Out of those others you mentioned, Dengeki Daisy seems the most interesting. (And the longest... ugh)

From what I have seen on your lists, I'd suggest Immortal Rain by OZAKI Kaori. Great story with action, humour and some dark issues, which you seem to like. The art is quite atypical for a Shoujo, for it has larger monochrome surfaces and more selectively applied details. Start off with its prequel Touhou Shinigami: Meteor Methuselah Gaiden to see if you'd like it.

I'm not sure how you'd like AKIZUKI Sorata-sensei's works - her art is not as Shounen-ish as in Immortal Rain, but not your typical Shoujo either - however, you could give her manga a try since they do not solely focus on their romance part. Considering your sex and age, I'd recommend you Seishun Kouryakuhon for the beginning. A short series centred around four adventurous high-school boys. It's one of my all-time favourites.

If you're open for some quirky comedy, read Don't Cry, Girl by YAMASHITA Tomoko. About a hard-boiled high-school girl who has to put up with a happy-go-lucky nudist housemate.
It's original, episodic and downright hilarious. I was laughing so hard that I almost fell off my chair.
Very distinct, unclassifiable art style.

Wow, thanks for the recommendations, you all! Immortal Rain in special, seems right up my alley. Some others have also interested me. Special thanks to Tripitaka for taking the time to see my lists. XD

If you like something with a hint of politics:
Yeonmo
Bokura no Kiseki is not too shoujo-ish so I thought you might enjoy this

will add later if I see something that you might be interested. I haven't read most of what you've read (i'm your opposite... a bunch of shoujo/josei and not enough shounen/seinen biggrin so I can't really tell what you like exactly)

Seconding Are You Alice?: Good art, very intriguing plot, no romance. It's really good

Last Game is good. The male lead cracks me up. The romance is the main plot.

I'm not too sure how much you'll like this, but Fujoshi Kanojo is worth a shot.
The humour is good. I'm not into BL at all and I enjoyed it. (It's not BL by the way). There isn't much romance, mostly comedy. It feels like gag.

Seconding Seishun Kouryakuhon.

A lot of what I read is romantic comedy, so I think I can help here.

I would recommend Immortal Rain to you. As a tomboy of a girl, the action and romance really appealed to me. I think a boy would enjoy it as well. Hana to Akuma has some action, but that is mostly romance and is a bit more sappy. Sarashi Asobi might be a good pick for you. It's a little shorter than the other series I recommended and I thought it was a slightly darker fantasy romance than just fairies and unicorns. bigrazz

You can also try
I-Revo
Hotarubi no Mori e
Keppeki Shounen Kanzen Soubi
Shirogane no Karasu which might not be shoujo... I don't actually remember.
And Tsuki no Shippo which is labeled ecchi at some places, but I don't really think so... compared with some of the stuff I read... eek

EDIT: Well, I re-re went over my lists and found even more that might interest you. I hope you'll like at least a couple of my suggestions... there are few things I like better than sharing my favorite manga. ^_^
Ah! Itoshi no Banchousama
Dengeki Daisy
Flowernoid no Shuufukushi is shounen, but romance.
Matsuri Special
Sailor Fuku ni Onegai!
Shinobi Life
Samurai High School (also shounen but romance.)

Some shoujo recommendations from a male reader:
* Boku no Chikyuu o Mamotte - quite long and the story is great, the art is very old school
* Immortal Rain - was recommended a few times already, but nothing prevents me from recommending it as well; reads like a shounen manga and the story is very Trigun inspired
* Bitou Lollipop - not sure what to say about this one, but it's definitelly a good read
* Dengeki Daisy - one of better (if not best) shoujo manga out there
* Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii - good read and good art smile
* Kaichou wa Maid-sama - fun with likable characters
* Kamisama Hajimemashita - somewhat above average; readable
* Seiten ni Tsurugi wo Kazase - oneshot; the art is ok I guess

I don't like shoujo art much either, but the ones above have decent art. Many shoujo manga suffer from poor panel continuity (and sometimes disjointed dialogs), but again, the ones above should not.
