Quote from pearlesque
Don't go recommending something like Kodomo no Jikan to me!

Darn xD

not sure about all of the ages but I enjoyed these...

Azumanga Daioh
Ichigo Mashimaro
Blood Alone
Oni-Gokko
Mirai Nikki

Well, the others I can think of are even further away from a 'regular childhood' than some of the ones above are, so i'll leave them out.

Kagen no Tsuki? The main cast feature 4 children, and they're essential to the story development and ending.
I can't think of other titles than the ones you already listed, Pearlesque, sorry.
Well, there's Dear Mine too, but I'm not sure it fits your criteria - and your high standards ^_^ - , although I found it to be a very sweet reading and refreshingly not perverted: basically, it's a story of two people learning to lo live together and falling in love, and one of them happens to be a very young boy.

+Anima definitely fits your description. It's about a carefree child with crow's wings that freely wanders from place to place searching for people like him to befriend. The characters are adorable, but not perfect. Thier adventures are by no means monumental, but they brighten up the lives of the people they meet when they travel ^_^ Made me feel like a kid again XD

Naked The name may sound suspicious, but it's a really sweet story about a group of two inseparable friends enjoying the great parts of childhood together and helping one another through hardships.

Forever Honey A bittersweet oneshot through the eyes of a child. This one is really short, really cute, and kind of sad ;_;

Hunter X Hunter - Probably the best children protagonist of any story I've read
HotMan - Kinda what you're looking for
Happy World! - Not sure how old the protagonist is but of what I recall he was around 12
MeruPuri - Though the male protagonist can transform into someone older
Rizelmine
Chokotto Sister
Konjiki no Gash
Pita Ten

Mint na Bokura. Rather cute.
Harukana Machi-E: Really good story where a middle-aged man has to relive part of his childhood.
Lucky Star; ecchi is in the eye of the beholder? It's not listed as ecchi, but you know some people...
It's been a while since I read Kagen no Tsuki, but I kinda remember a bunch of kids in it?
Mama wa Shougaku 4-nensei; silly and kinda bizarre, but short and sweet.
Ooh, and the first three volumes of Miriam, where she's 8 years old. (The last four skip ahead several years.)

These next few I haven't read, I'm just posting whatever I find:
Miiko Desu!
Adventure Boys
A Serow's Deadly Fall
Rakudai Ninja Rantarou *reads description* MY GOD, it's an early Naruto!
Chitose Get You!!
Danchi Tomoo
Chibi Maruko-chan; I hear this one's a classic.
