.hack//Legend of the Twilight------
3 Years7Ah... This was a nice read. A simple, bittersweet high school romance, but well-executed. Even though China is confused about how to react, she doesn't appear annoying or irritatingly selfish. It's nicely balanced. The art matches the story well.

Ano Koro ni Aitai7.7It surprised me how much I actually liked this. The plot is very simple, a tiny bit angsty and well-paced (might be a bit slow for some, since it's a slice of life). I never got bored while reading, and I couldn't predict the ending while reading. A josei manga worth a read! The oneshot at the end of volume three was also nice.

I actually liked the art a lot, after reading the first chapter. It's distinctive and charming, with 80es hair and outfits all over the place. Baggy shirts and skinny j......

I hate how Jung just said that she would wait for him forever, even though he reported her to her school - and LEFT her without telling her if he loved her or not. Somehow that makes Jung look so weak. From my point of view, it looks like Ryu is just out for revenge on Jung's younger brother. It irritates me how we don't get a clear answer, and are left to wonder, in a bad way!

Boku ni Natta Watashi7If you're looking for a very different shoujo story, then this is not for you, but if you just need a very nice, feel good shoujo romance, then this is it. There isn't much new in it, but it's well-made with pace, art and an okay plot. You will be entertained if you just read this without too high expectations.

I also liked the first extra story in volume five.

This is not deep in any way, but a sugary romance for a girl in a lovey mood.
Boku wa Kiss de Uso wo Tsuku5.5Four gorgeous boys falling head over heels for a girl, and chasing her maniacally. It's quite the cliche shoujo story, really. I could from the first chapter predict whom Meiko would end up with.

But even though the plot isn't original and fairly easy to predict, this manga is still above average. I didn't manage to get annoyed, since the length of the story was nice, and the characters were okay. The art also saves the manga quite a bit.

"ZOMG...YEAH, JUST CUT MY FINGER OFF, BASTARD!!!" That's not something a teenage girl would say that easily, I think? Maybe she's just a bit naive.

Claudine...!9A well-paced tale of a man in a woman's body. I didn't have any expectations, when I started reading this, but I was captivated from page one! It's refreshing how the story is told by Claude's/Claudine's doctor (psychologist?). This results in a precise and sharp storytelling that doesn't dwell for too long at any point.

I admire the protagonist for trying so hard, though I have a hard time accepting her way at dealing with everything in the end. It was pretty abrupt, but I guess such happeni......

Coelacanth7.5I love the sheep. I want one too. Or... Maybe I don't. biggrin

This was a nice manga, with a fair amount of both love, drama, mystery and some uh uh darkness (even though this is the shoujo type of darkness). Quite the combo, I must say, but it's been put together really well. I enjoyed it from start till finish. Definitely worth a read.

And oh. Did I mention that I really like the sheep?

What an awkward guy Densha was in the beginning, but that's what makes the story so cute. Definitely a good read for girls too, and the way it's portrayed through a community thread is really interesting.

Have to agree with some of the previous reviewers though, it's a bad portrayal of an otaku. I mean,

Do You Want to Try?6I really like this project, and I'm really glad that esthetique is scanlating it! Keep up the good work.

The art is really gorgeous and the story is very nice, but maybe not that original, though that really doesn't matter.

Edit: The ending seemed a bit rushed, and I didn't really get the conflict between Hye-Won and Sun-Mi. Could have been explained better.

Double House8.5I personally loved this. Don't expect more than conversations, really, but these conversations are very delicate and precious. It's a very interesting manga that focuses on our view on gender, personality and social status/connection to society. The most interesting thing is the conversation about frames. If we have the right frame (job, education, family, relations ...), do people then really care about the picture we actually represent?

Doubt!!7Don't let the negative comments put you down. Read it for yourself. I actually ended up fairly liking this manga.

As many others have mentioned, yes, it's filled with shoujo clichés, and the story is pretty much predictable. Sô can be a jerk (but his jerkiness can often be justified because of various reasons, including being rich ( = missing realistic view of the world) and a troubled childhood which can pretty much f*ck up every child), but I've encountered much worse male characters in ot......

Hana ni Arashi6Ah, the main-story and the oneshots were actually kind of nice. Simple storylines (though at times, a bit silly) and acceptable art. Not anything deep really, but reading this will keep you entertained.
Hana no Namae6---
Hana Yori Dango9I've read shoujo for MANY years, and I've never read this classic. I'm glad that I finally did read it. Even though Hana yori Dango is OVERLY SUPER STUFFED with clichés, it wears these with style. It is the ultimate shoujo love story, and the series is so long (over thirty volumes ftw!), that you can't but fall in love with Makino, the F4 and all the other characters (gosh there were many characters, I had to write all the names down on paper to keep track of them all).

Heptagon9.2This manga is very beautiful. I just started reading it from my "jumble manga folder" on a whim, and boy was I surprised? This is some deep poo, man!

What would you do if you could relive certain parts of your childhood, would you act differently or just enjoy reminiscing? This manga depicts how easily children can be destroyed for life, just because of bullying, and how their personality will change drastically accordingly. But the manga goes much deeper than that, when it takes up topics ab......

Houkago Hokenshitsu8I really liked this story, and the theme about finding and accepting yourself for what you are. But the end was too abstract and contradicting compared to what has happened throughout the manga. This makes me drop the rating of Houkago Hokenshitsu.

The ending shouldn't keep you from reading it, though.
Hyakuman Tsubu no Namida------
I Want You5This is a surprising story! You really don't know what's gonna happen (except for who the female protagonist ends up with). It's an amusing and twisted story.

The only thing I don't get about this story is her hair-growing-disease?! It has no impact on the plot whatsoever and you only get to hear about it in the first couple of chapters.

Indigo Blue7.5---
Ingènuo6.8I read this up to volume 10 a couple of years ago, and I really loved this series. Now I decided to read the whole thing.

This manhua is by no means perfect. The plot features a stupidly high rate of gorgeous people and the setting is pretty stereotypical, though the focus on cameras spices it up a bit. The two main characters have some serious mood-swings and that dad is just too far out to be taken seriously.

I could keep on pointing out flaws in this series, but truth is that I got pretty a......

Kanojo ga Tonda Hi6Indeed these short stories aren't perfect, but they are definitely different. The endings are varied and don't always take the typical shoujo-road. The art wasn't my cup of tea, and it isn't a style I'd normally put together with this type of manga.

Everything taken into consideration, I actually fairly enjoyed these stories. I liked the first and the second story the best.

Kimi wa Pet10It has been ages since I last enjoyed a (long) romance manga like this one. I didn't feel irritated at all while reading through the 14 volumes, which is quite uncommon for me. Really, just that is reason enough to rate this 10. I am in the twenties, and have been lacking good romance manga to read. Most shoujo mangas leave me partly angry, because they tend to be superficial (I know I am generalizing), alike and just plain boring. Of course that has something to do with age. Love Blog!!6.5This was pretty entertaining. Love Blog may be a story with many flaws, but it has many interesting aspects as well.

The romance is, albeit dramatic, pretty realistic and blunt, compared to some of those conservative/cliche shoujo/josei romances out there. The female lead isn't pictured as loose or slutty, even if she likes sex - and the blog post narrative adds depth to her character and gives the story a little twist.

Some twists are a bit too much, like

Love My Life9A very nice and balanced slice of life manga. I recommend this, even if you ain't into yuri. If you like josei and slice of life, this is worth a read.

The story revolves around Ichiko and her experiences concerning different kinds of love and desire. We hear about her emotions through her conversations with her lover, friend and dad. The message of this manga is very nice. You shouldn't blame how you are on others (for instance your parents) and you shouldn't blame your choices on others. Wh......

Lovesick------
Maimiko Touko no Jikenbo6I'm not that into shrines, but this story balanced the weight of shrine facts with a simple, but cute story about a girl searching for love. It is not bad, neither brilliant.

@shoujo_forever mentions that the art has 90s-features, but I still think the mangaka manages to give it a bit more modern look.

Worth reading once. But it is a slow-paced, informative slice-of-life shoujo story, so skip it if that discription doesn't suit your taste.

Merupuri7A few years ago I was really smitten with Hino Matsuri's art, and that made it very easy for me to like her stories... When I look back, this isn't that amazing, but it's still very pretty art and a fairly entertaining story. Even if it's kinda silly at times...

Mukashi no Hanashi9First of all, I'm really a big fan of Fujiwara Kaoru. Her art is so damn nice, and her stories are just weird enough for me to love them all!

These short stories are compact, clear and beautiful in all their simplicity. In my opinion, the first story depicts how life is unfair, but that you have to live with it. You must try to find happiness in the situation your in, and be strong. Be proud.

The second story is moral wise, really complex I think. You'll understand when you've read it.

My Girl6.7This is a relatively good shoujo story. The art is good, the plot is a bit cliché, but the outcome is entertaining and sweet. It was a bit exasperating (great understatement) that the fifth volume was so badly edited and translated, but I mostly had a good time reading 'My Girl'.

Olimpos9.5This manga has some really interesting dialogues with existential and philosophical questions. For a manga, this was rather deep. And on top of that, the art was STUNNING. You have to be in a specific and patient mood to read - and enjoy - this. But if you are in the right mood, this is almost a masterpiece (yeah, I won't say that it IS a masterpiece, since that is quite a claim). This is not a roller coaster ride as most mangas often are (yeah, I'm generalizing, sorry), but more like... food......
One Day8Interesting and sketchy artwork. The storyline is VERY confusing slash philosophical.
But if you're looking for artwork that can inspire you this one is quite suitable.

I rate it 8 because of the artwork.
Oniisama e...9I ended up reading this instead of watching the anime, since there's a huge difference in length (3 volumes versus 39 episodes). I have no idea how the manga compares to the anime, but I certainly enjoyed reading Brother Dear Brother.

The art definitely isn't for everyone, though I've come to appreciate it's charm. The plot isn't for everyone either, since it's extremely dramatic and filled with tears, shoujo angst and sparkles. Years ago I would have hated this manga, but now I find it's exce......

Rakuen9.2This is very much in the same style as the mangaka's other works, so expect some quite absurd scenarios. Nonetheless, it's beautiful, quite symbolic and refreshing. The stories are often a bit chunky and narrated in creative ways. I always enjoy her works, because they are so queer - and this collection of short stories is no exception.

If you don't like abrupt endings and stories that are a bit hard to comprehend at times, this is not for you. And I guess, if you are a bit fainthearted this i......
Red Lion5.8The art was okay, and I tend to have a weakness for stories about girls who fight against ooooh-so-evil-evil-powers (!), no matter how extremely cliché that may be. Eisul (the red lion) and Yumin were likable, and it was a fairly entertaining read.

On the other hand, the characters weren't characterized by more than a few superficial traits each, but I didn't anticipate that either. A pity that the story was rushed at times, especially during volume 6 and 7.

Saver6.8I see that I am not the only one, when I say that I sometimes had absolutely no idea of what was going on. When starting on a long manga/manhwa series, I am quite careful about writing down the names of all characters, so that I don't get confused. But with this one...That just didn't work. bigrazz Hahahahaha! There are so damn many good looking guys with long hair, it's amazing. Shibuya de Aimashou5.5Good, but what the heck was with that ending? It sucked SO BAD.

Shino-chan wa Jibun no Namae ga Ienai------
Shiroi Heya no Futari8---
Sora Sora------
Soryanaize Darling5Well, this was an average shoujo manga. It has flaws, but can still entertain shoujo fans.

I didn't particularly like either Yukiya or Maiko. Especially Maiko, notably because of how she dealt with the love triangle with Yukiya and Shizuru. She did some pretty unfaithful things that shouldn't be excused with insecurity.

Worth a read I guess, but there are a lot of better shoujo mangas out there.
Star Blacks3Yes - it started as a really promising manga - and I thought it had great potential. The plot reminded me a bit of Blood+ and another manga I cannot recall the name of - but with a bit of individuality too. The art was quite a bit above average and it had a hint of a romance that would keep most females tuned.

But.

What the heck happened? This story CANNOT be told in two volumes. It's completely loony. It felt so rushed, that I had to check from several sources that it was to end after volume ......
Strobe Edge8.5This is a TRUE shoujo story! It is sweet and heart-clenching slash -warming. It is about an (normally occuring) unrequited love, but the story is not told in a cliché or boring way. You will end up getting quite hooked, I am sure.

The art is not brilliant, but it is fine.

T.V. Eye5.5I think it might be a combination of the scanlation and the story, but this felt a bit incoherent in the short stories. Oh..Who is that at the toilet..Oh..who died? Ah.. And well, it continues like that. Maybe I was impatient? Maybe it just was a teeny bit too disorganized.

The Dress------
The Flower of Evil7Indeed, this is a very interesting version of the siblings love story. There's nothing light-hearted shoujo or reality-ignoring ecchi about it. This isn't like all those semi-incest cases at all; it's love between real siblings, and it's shown as wrong, ugly, nerve-wrecking and nauseating by the characters.

Unlike some of the other reviewers, I found the plot easy to understand. It's a very simple manhwa to read; you only have to remember 5 names and you can read a volume in about 10 minutes.

Triple Kiss5.5As theduchess also said, the story is a bit messy. I never really got hooked, but kept reading on even though I wasn't entertained much. Yeah, the two boys are gorgeous. But that's about it. Yukino doesn't add much to the story, even though she's the main girl. She's like a hollow girl, that doesn't have much character really. A copy paste girl?

The art is of course nice, since this is Shimaki Ako.

But if you hold together the art and the plot, it's still okay.
Tsuki no Shippo7As a response to the people saying that Usagi doesn't change, toughen up OR mature; then you didn't read far enough.

I agree that she starts out a completely stupid and irritating child, but that just makes the personal growth more appreciated.
