In April 2011, the company decided to shut down the main office in Los Angeles, but continue the European office.
Sometime after that point, the owners of TOKYOPOP in North America decided to leverage their social media and newsletter fan-base to rebuild what they could, even though they've lost many licenses. As of late 2014, they've released a few new books (such as ebooks on ComiXology) and have a store on their web site with items displaying their logo.

"Although the road has been rocky for TOKYOPOP of late, you can’t keep a good Robofish down. The company is in the process of reincarnation, with a focus on digital media and Asian pop culture."
In January 2018, the company has announced that they will begin publishing translated Japanese manga again.
