So, i'm just looking for a new series to read, any genre, romance, action, comedy. Only thing I ask for is a likeable female lead.Which means, not weak in either the physical or mental sense or both. Not completely clueless around boys as in, my heart beats fast around him, what does this mean? No cry babies either. I shall use some examples to help define what I mean:

Ones that i like:
Akatsuki no Yona- I like, although Yona was weak at first, she develops to become very strong mentally and starts to learn to fight and stand up for her self

Girls of the wilds: love love love! All the girls are so wonderfully powerful and strong!

Gokusen: also like, lady lead knew how to protect herself and her students and didn't need no man to get her out of sticky situations

Kamisama Hajimemashite: Also really like, nanami's no cry baby and although
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
get's rejected at first
she doesn't let it affect her and continues on with her life instead of moping

Kimi ni todoke- mmm borderline. although sadako is very cute, recent chapters have made me feel like she's really annoying and clingy

koi dano ai dano: like, intelligent female lead

Oresama Teacher: love. mafuyu is hilarious!

Suki-tte Ii na yo:i like too, although the girl is new to the whole boyfriend scene, she keeps a cool head and never gets unreasonable

Full Metal Alchemist: All the FMA girls are AMAZING. strong and beautiful

Ones that i DON'T like:
black bird: crybaby female lead who lets kyo walk all over her. no.

code breaker: the make the girl out to be really strong but in EVERY SINGLE SITUATION she is saved by the boy. EVERY SINGLE TIME

Special A: Girl is ALWAYS second to the guy and is also super dense.

Bride of the water god: weak and crybaby

Love in the Mask: I just really disliked the female lead. Really dense about her feelings

Crazy Tokyo Paradise: I dropped it early more because of the plot but the lead wasn't too bad

That was a long message so thanks for taking the time to help me!
biggrin
here's my reading list:

I like the female lead in Baby Steps. Strong minded and passionate about what she does. Give it a try if you haven't read it.
Others:
Yuureitou
Otoyomegatari
Teppuu
edit:
went through my list
The Arms Peddler
Black Lagoon
Beelzebub
Magi

Sorairo Ageha This I found very refreshing after reading too mangas with many weak female MC
Ai Hime - Ai to Himegoto
Chotto Friday
Meteor Methuselah She cries a bit, but no where near being called a crybaby. (Oh and happy ending if you're worried about the tragedy tag)
Ojou-sama no Himitsu
Aoi Kiseki Again she cries a bit, but she gets over it very quickly
Kimi ga Uso o Tsuita
Kurokami no Helga
Midnight Secretary Has smut. Ignore if you don't like smut.
Vanilla Frosting
Sweet Black
Diamond Life
Melody Drifting in the Rain
Papillon - Hana to Chou Ok the female MC does cry a tag too much, but she really does get over it quickly. It's more 'Let me get this out of my system, but I'll limit myself to a minute. Then becomes emotionally strong again.'
Rensou Mode
Rinjin wa Chou
Kubera Ongoing- updates often. (You get to see a lot of the characters back story, and none of the female are annoying)
Pochamani Ongoing.
Escape from High-School Girls Kind of adding this one for kicks. It does fit to an extent.

I hope you enjoy the suggestions. Tell me if you really loved something eyes . I hope you enjoy most, if not all of them.

You really should continue with Tokyo Crazy Paradise hahaha, it's pretty good.

Others I recommend are:

W Juliet
Arisa
Ai Girl
Hana Yori Dango
Cat Street
9 Banme no Musashi
Apothecarius Argentum
Otomen (This one is pretty special)
Rosario to Vampire Season II (And season 1)
The Wallflower (Awesome reverse harem with super strong female lead as well as character development)
Yankee-kun to Megane-chan
Angel Densetsu (The art is pretty bad at the start but it gets A LOT better. It's hilarious as well)
Basara (One of my personal favorites)
Saiunkoku Monogatari
Hanasakeru Seishounen
Beauty Pop (She's more emotionless than strong hahaha)
Bio Meat
Change 123
Mirai Nikki (I'm not sure to call her strong or psycho...)
Elfen Lied (Awesome cool protagonist)
Emma
Faster than a Kiss
Fruits Basket
Anatolia Story (A classic just like Basara)
Gakuen Alice
Girl Got Game
Hana no Kishi
High School Debut
Immortal Rain
InuYasha
Kaguya Hime
Kekkaishi
Kodocha
Kurohime
Land of the Blindfolded
Penguin Revolution
Ghost Hunt
Love Attack
Saikano
Mahou Sensei Negima!
Matsuri Special
Miriam
Monster
Ouran High School Host Club
Psyren
Shaman King Kang Zeng Bang
Threads of Time
Immortal Rain
Liar Game (She sucks at first, but gets a lot better later on. But I don't know to call her trusting or kind hearted)

Sorry about the long list. All of the above are those that I read and actually made an impression on me. (I have a tendency to forgot things especially if it didn't make a good impression)

I personally hate stories with whiny/weak protagonist that's why I have such a long list here LOL.

Noblesse The sad part is that she makes her appearance after the end of first season. Cool, calm, good looking, strong... Female characters in Noblesse are not pathetic.

I second Cheese in the Trap wholeheartedly.

Joou no Hana Kind of similar to Akatsuki no Yona. Aki is courageous, smart and very strong. There is lots of character growth too.
Siesta Dia seems weak, but we learn that that is far from the case. To add to that, she's ends up at the top of her class and she's strong enough to put up with Cid.
Six Half Shiori is strong in the emotional sense. She stays strong despite all the horrible things that she learns and keeps a cool head.
Oboreru Knife Natsume is surprisingly strong and resilient, even with all that happens, and she manages to stand her own against Kyou, so.
Superior She's a Demon Queen. I think that says it well enough.

Some others that are great but I'm too lazy to write an explanation for:
Cousin
Black Lagoon
Ciel
Shining
Atashi no Banbi Vaguely similar to Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun if you haven't read that already.

I second Otoyomegatari, Immortal Rain, W Juliet, NG Life, Saiunkoku Monogatari and Faster Than A Kiss.

More:
D.Gray-man
Pandora Hearts
Akagami no Shirayukihime - an absolutely beautiful manga. (PS - I saw this in your on hold list. Unless you really for some reason didn't like it, I strongly recommend that you pick it up again.)

Yeah I can't leave this alone. IMO if you dropped it don't pick it back up. I didn't like it as much as others have.

To make this post more relevant to the OP also try the tags - Emotionally strong female lead; Strong female lead; and Strong-willed female lead.
